4/30 - everything is going great. No bugs. No burnt or turned up leaves. Just pure green and happy buds. PPFD 760 across canopy, still no CO2 and I won't attempt it this grow, humidity still in check and rock solid using the vent fan to control RH. Probably harvesting before summer humidity, so I can probably avoid any dehumidifier use. Might dial it back depending on bud density, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. For now, trying a new, non-fishy, nutrient mix that goes against most of the accepted science for flower phase. N:P:K:Ca:Mg:S is 200:60:130:65:33:41 that I'm slowly ramping up to 1.9EC. Here's the study I'm working from: https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpls.2021.764103/full Time will tell. This study mentions that the inflorescence dry weight was directly proportional to the size of the plant, so bigger plant = more trichomes. Nice, BUT, it also mentions that the high N, high growth plants had 20-30% lower THC concentration. So instead of a 25% THC killer, you might get 19% THC bud, but a lot more of them. Theory is that the lower N fertilizer rate (like most 1:3:2 or 0:3:3 regimes) cause nutrient deficiency stress, and plant stress = greater cannabinoid production. OK, so what if we take the best of both worlds - max growth with the 10:3:5 ratio, combined with a different source of plant stress. In this study on plant stress vs. cannabinoid production (https://journals.ashs.org/hortsci/view/journals/hortsci/54/5/article-p964.xml) they use drought to stress the plant, without affecting growth or inflorescence dry weight, increasing THCA and other cannabinoid production 43-50%. The timing of the drought cycle relative to induction of flowering is crucial, and they started their drought cycle at week 7 of flower. So, should I try drought-stressing these bitches in a few weeks? Stay tuned, oh, and maybe I could get one freakin' like from all y'all? I'm pretty chuffed with this newby grow :) 5/2 - EC to 1.82, pH 5.5, PPFD to 950

Grow Questions

Ok y'all, was hoping for a simple, hands off grow with just one topping early on. These babies have turned into dense bushes, and I want to defoliate the undercarriage a bit. Fan leaves are huge from the base to the top, so do I just prune out the lower, older fans?

Yes enough so she can breathe cus it's still to early for budsites but some fresh breeze then go for it! Best of luck 👍

I'm 4 weeks into flower. Plant is super healthy and bushy. Want to thin it down. Can I take some cuttings to clone? Should I put the cuttings back to 18/6 or keep them at 12/12?

Hello. Yes you can take clones almost anytime in the plants life, except the end. They need to go back to 18/6. It is best to take clones just before you switch to flower. the more a plant goes in and out of flowering it looses a bit of vigor. Most strains can go back and forth only a few times before it's not that strong anymore. Also beware that the clone taken in flowering will show weird mutated leaves for a while and it won't be ready for flowering again for at least a month before you get normal leaves out of it and it's gone back to veg. There is a big struggle with the hormones when you take clones in flowering and wanting them to go to veg.. So expect some strange growth before going back to veg. Good luck. Chuck.

How high in power should I go with my lights without CO2 enrichment? I can comfortably provide 1200 PPFD to the canopy, but I'm holding it down near 900 because I'm not sure the extra power used would yield an increase in, um, yield.

always crank out the light if you can ride it out. thing is wierdness starts happening for example you need a lot more calcium and magnesium. the way you're feeding right now, you would have to change quite a lot of the "hands off approach" like you might need to start spraying the leafs with cal mag, monitor it more closely etc. totally worth it especially at the begning and middle of flower, just start turning it down quite a lot towards the chop, get that taste in there. Hope this helps ! 🚀
