First week went well. Germination to seedling without any hitches. This is my first grow in Coco Coir. First time using RO water. First time using automatic irrigation system. First time using the 3.6 gallon airpots.
Mar 1-Started seeds in towel to germinate.
Mar 3-Seed into pellet
Mar 4-Seed sprouts
Mar 5-Transferred pellet into cup.
Started light with nutrients. EC=.55, Ph=6.2, PPM=390 while the seedling was in the cup.
Mar 11-Transplanted from cup to airpot. Transplant went well with no bad reaction observed
Mar 12-Increased nutrients mix to EC=1.14, Ph 6.4, PPM=800 no adverse reaction observed.
Mar 13-Started auto watering. Trying to dial in the right number of cycles and lengths of watering (secs). Added additional nutes to get EC=1.4, Ph 6.3, PPM 980. Mango Smile seems to be handling it pretty well.
3/19-Last week I spent alot of time playing with the watering schedule and nute mix. I tried a number of different combos of frequency and cycle length. I think I probably overwatered when all was said done but the Mango Smile handled it well. This week I'm going to try 3x of 7 second cycles. In addition I'm going to simplify the nute mix a bit as well to get EC and PPM a bit lower. Based on mix detailed above I've got EC=1.01, Ph 6.0, Ppm=740.
3/20-Topped between 4th and 5th node. Will monitor reaction.
3/22-Seems to have handled the topping well. Started LST today. Fertigation is set for 3x8 seconds.
3/23-Plant is getting bushy and wide after topping. I did a little pruning to get rid of some of the huge fan leaves that were covering up the undergrowth. Did a little leaf tucking when I was done. Drinking alot more water. Changed fertigation to 3x15 seconds. Runoffs have been in a tight range of EC-1.4 to 1.6 and 1,000 ppm.
3/26-Start of Veg week #3-Plant has responded well to everything so far. Starting to add some height. I've continued to do some LST to spread the plant growth horizontally. Did some minor pruning as well. Adjusted the nute mix by taking out Voodoo Juice and adding additional Grow A&B. EC=1.45, Ph=6.0, Ppm=1070. PPFD is in the 650 range.
3/31-Start of Veg Week #4-Plant is in great shape. Starting to add more height...up to 11". No sign of pre-flower just yet. I've continued to do light pruning and LST every other day to try and get even canopy. This week I am going to keep nute mix the same until I see pre-flower. Might add a bit more Cal Mag.
4/2-Starting to blow up. Everything has been easy with this one so far. First signs of pre-flower starting to show.
4/4- switched nutes to flowering mode for PM feeding. Will detail on Week #5.
4/5-Still looking good and growing. Finishes the week at 17" tall and moving into preflower mode.
4/5-started Bloom nutrients schedule listed above. Ph=6.0, EC=.97, PPM=700. Did some trimming to keep things from getting too thick. Plant is starting to shape up nicely and is now 17" tall but fairly wide as well with the LST.
4/8-Keeps doing its thing. Cut the Bud Ignitor back a bit and added a bit more Cal Mag on last mix. Got 4 Mephistos going and this one is the best of the bunch so far.
4/10-Did some lollipopping/pruning on the bottom of the plant. Thinned things out quite a bit. I'm hoping that this well lead to fatter buds on the main stalks. I've been monitoring the runoff and it is staying consistently close to the numbers I got when I feed the nutes. I think that is a good thing. I actually broke a main stalk trying to do some LST. Fortunately it was not a full break and I duct taped the stem back together and it seems to be causing no harm. I'll keep monitoring. It looks like she is starting to really get ready to flower and I'm hoping to see some signs here in the next week.
4/12-At the end of Week 6 the Mango Smile is definitely the star of my first Mephisto grow. She's up to 26" high now and is towering over the other 2 plants in the tent. It's starting to be a problem as I've had to raise the lights quite a bit to keep them above her. Right now the plant is getting 850-900 PPFD on the top branches while the other plants in the tent are getting 500. She's also starting to form some buds albeit it small at this point. I expect to see that increase alot more in the next week. On the nutes front I'm going a bit more basic this week to let the other plants in the tent catch up.
4/15-Mango continues to grow vertically. She is up to 29" now. Buds are getting a bit bigger as well. Lots of space between the nodes makes me wonder what kind of yield we will get in the end. The plant is getting tall but not fat. Nute solution #'s...EC=1.30, Ppm=920, Ph=5.95
4/17-Still growing. Up to 32" now. Bud sites are starting to show first signs of trichomes.
4/19- Still growing to 34" now. Buds are starting to get some frost on. As an observation the plant is really tall with lots of room between the nodes. This is far and away the tallest autoflower I've grown, almost too tall for the tent as I've had to raise the light almost to the top of the tent which has made growing the other 2 plants in here a bit more tricky as there is obviously alot more light going to the top than down lower. I've been monitoring runoffs ritually and they have stayed consistently close to inputs. Next week I'm hoping the growing tall stops and the buds start fattening up and getting frosty.
4/23-Plant has grown to 36". Buds are starting to kick in getting thicker and frostier. Did some trimming today to give some more breathing room to the plant. Because the Mango Smile plant in the tent starting flowering earlier than the Forum Stomper and Samsquanch I've held back increasing the nute load while the other 2 plants caught up. Today I decided to take the MS off the automated irrigation and feed it manually for the next few days with a heavier nute load. Added B-52 and Bud Candy to the mix and deleted Voodoo Juice. EC=1.48, Ph=6.0, Ppm=1040
4/26-Buds are continuing to get thicker and frostier. Will increase nute load incrementally again next week. Will be interesting to see how much bigger the buds will get and whether they can bridge the rather large gaps between nodes.
4/28-Mango Smile continues to perform nicely. Increased the nute mix slightly. EC=1.60, PPM=1,150, Ph=6.0. Runoffs have been consistently close to inputs. Buds are starting to fatten up and fill the gaps between the nodes. Getting frostier by the day.
4/30-Buds are getting fatter and frostier. Tons of bud sites are really developing and I'm starting to think that perhaps the Mango Smile might deliver a bit more yield than I was expecting. A very small number of buds are showing pistils turning amber. I'm thinking we've got another 3-4 weeks before harvest.
5/3-Another great week with the Mango Smile. Buds are starting to get more dense, more frosty, and are starting to fill in the nodal gaps. The vast majority (90%) of the pistils are still white but a few more are turning amber at the end of the week. I've kept the nute recipe the same but I mixed up one gallon of water with Overdrive and added that as a little bonus for the Mango Smile as its running a week to 10 days ahead of the Forum Stomper in development. I think its got another couple weeks ahead of flowering and then I'll start flush.
5/4-First hint of amber pistils on almost all the buds. First signs of leaves starting to get yellower.
5/5-Getting dense and frosty
5/9-First hints of amber trichomes. Buds are getting very frosty and pungent. More leaves hinting at yellow. Took plant out of tent and it seems so much bigger. I'm dying to see what kind of yield I get. I'm thinking another week and then I flush. I'd like to get to 80 days.
5/10-Trichromes are starting to turn amber. Leaves are getting more yellow. So I started a slow flush with Flawless Finish. I'm planning on flushing for a week.
Harvest 75 days from sprout. Tried a bunch of new things on this grow. Coco Coir, airpots, automatic watering system, raised platform and runoff removal and just about everything worked as planned. I was hoping for a yield of 2-3 ounces and I'm going to get 5-6 ounces !! Very happy camper here.
