Popped a seed for SeedSupreme's Chocolope around the beginning of February. Typing this in April, the plant has grown to about 1 meter. Germinated in a paper towel in a bag, but i put the bag in my heated vacuum chamber (without the vacuum running) and set the temp at 89-90 degrees. Popped in like 2 days, named the mother plant Charmaigne, and have since cloned the plant and gotten a good 9-11 babies that I'm currently giving the ol' voir-dire and I'll choose which ones make the cut. Put the lil clones in starter soil while my Ed Rosenthal soil cools off from mixing.
Also, this is about my 4th grow in this space. 1st one i needed to get back into a routine, second one got screwed up with my take on custom dirt, then salvaged. 3rd one, i learned about powdery mildew, and how to NOT get it. This being the 4th, i decided that i really wanted to complicate my life even further with a 13 week flowering cycle plant and no knowledge as to how to get this Chocolope dank af, so any and all critiques, questions, comments concerns and disbeliefs are welcome, as I can use all the help i can get here...
So I'm doing things a tad different on this grow... I'm putting my clones after only 2 weeks in the cups in veg, into 1 gallon pots with my Ed Rosenthal fortified soil mix. I'm going for smaller and tighter on this one... Leaving the 2x MH 1000 watt on for this week, then upcoming Tuesday (which for some reason has become the beginning of my green week) I'll swap into my HPS bulbs.
Had a mild outbreak of PM AGAIN :( Realizing that it's in my duct work, I did a few things: 1- started a regimen of Dr Zyme (medium strength) This, along with some other foliar sprays (compost teas and diluted fish emulsion biomarine) gets me in the habit of checking daily and feeding thru the leaves, which showed me great gains on the last grow , 2 - Keeping my humidity up around 60% and as close to a 'green' value of Vapor Pressure Deficit, encouraging stomatic intake of CO2 (i think) and prolly making it harder for mildew spores to propogate in the air... 3- bought a UVC light in case shit gets outta control. (I did my research on this one, but will only experiment in this realm if it gets completely fubar'ed) 4- considering buying a UVC light for my ducts/furnace output, and will revisit this after the grow
Put 8 plants in the flower room and in the 1 gallon (yes, i know they're small) along with some cover crop (assorted clover from Build-a-soil). I chose smaller plants/pots because:
1- Chocolope is a heavy sativa hybrid.... This ol girl will stretch in the first week of flowering anyway, and with a 13 week flowering period, i can assume a solid 10 days or 2 weeks total of stretching, so I don't want another jungle of sativa that i have to top like crazy, especially going into summer with an indoor room that i've some history of having temp issues in the past in...
2- I tend to over-water my plants, 1 gallon pots should whizz thru the h2o quicker than my 3 gallon pots i'm used to using...
3- I'm reintroducing co2 to the mix... I saw insane results last time i did it and look forward to kickstarting the stretch in the first week with said compressed co2 tank and an electric slow release valve selanoid dealie. I got hella timers and set up all the fans to die for an hour while the co2 fills the room, and chills for 20 mins before the fans and filters kick back on again
Just being hyper anal about the temp and humidity on this grow, still feeding it some weak 'week 4' general organics mixture with diamond black added to encourage the roots to boogie.. I'll start a flowering feed next week when i put the hps'es up.. more pics coming... please, Growdiaries, YELL AT ME WHEN I'M BOTCHING SOMETHING UP, as I want to make this disp level erb... TY :)
-Swapped in the two 1000w hps, haven't started using my uvb lights yet, nor have i needed to sweep with uvC lighting, as PM hasn't shown up since i've been hyper vigilant
-Moved the light cycle to 12 hours (4pm-4am)
-started incorporating the CO2 and getting the desired results: More erect stance early, 35-40% more foliage growth than when using none... I'll update the ppm on the co2 when i do the math again...
-using purified water with cal/mag and ph down just to water when dry, feeding my witches brew of flowering nutes every feeding day (2-3 times a week) diluted until i think that they can handle the full spectrum of that feed (kushie kush, bio-bud, lotus boost, molasses and more)
-it got cold this week, my temp at night went down a little too much for my liking, so i'll be putting the space heater into flowering when i wake up (the plants are just going to sleep when i wake for work at 430 ish)
7/8 plants have grown nicely... (i'll get to plant 8 here in a second)
I'm seeing small flowers, developing slower than my other cultivars/ strains due to the extended period of this landrace sativa hybrid
Been diligent on keeping the humidity up, as it's very dry in my basement with cool temps outside... Keeping a happy VPD isn't as easy as i thought it'd be... the sun needs to come out in upstate NY lold
plant 8 does NOT look good... drooping and not eating thru its moisture in the soil, I fear i've damaged the roots when i transplanted from cup. I'll let it sit for a few weeks while I get a few other clones ready. Going to add more drainage on these crappy 1 gallon pots to see if that helps, but i doubt it
saw mild evidence of cal/mag and/or iron/zinc deficiencies.... put cal/mag and liquid chelated iron/zinc in a foliar spray and am seeing positive results in the looks of the leaves
Had a pw issue here on GD, so my updates for these two weeks may be a lil off.... but we're seeing progress....
I started a regimen of UVB lighting... the last 3 hours of the 12 get the UVB lights. I'll reposition the plants under these lights before i go to bed. (My 12 hours is at night, and OMG, I'm never NOT having the lights off during the day going forward....) Noticing a BIG boost in trichomes on the sugar leaves in comparison to past grows. not sure if it's the strain but my gut tells me the supplemental lights are doing the trick
I also started putting in my bloom boosting with the normal watering.... the pics for week 4 don't do them justice.... Week 5's pics are better.... They currently have a very mango-ee with pine smell when you squeeze the bud... not your typical limolene stank...
So things have plumped up a little... Smell increased, and we've been blessed with mild weather, allowing me to control the environment a lot better.... the 7th plant i've essentially given up on, but it'll still get me some smaller buds.... The uvb lighting is paying for itself, showing more trichomes on this grow than any before it...
