Wow, great setup!! Wish you a great grow. I would suggest tu put a top layer with bark mulch or anything to create a micro world for the roots below. That increase microbial life, and roots may come until the top. Less water, more roots, more life etcetc.

heat wave? what latitude are you at? i like sun grown as well, but im up north like 48N
