4/25
Dropped the beans in some water, placed in a dark cupboard. EXCITED!!!
Once they sink I'll throw them in a wet paper towel until I get a tap root.
4/26
Beans went in paper towels.
4/28
Both beans have a taproot and got sown.
4/29
Popped above grown. One has helmet head but they're both looking good.
Day 3
One girl is stretching a little but not badly. I piled up some topsoil around her stalk and spritzed her with distilled water. True leaves are out on both. Took the humidity domes off.
Day 4
Ran out of distilled water for my humidifier. RH is down to 30% so I'm spritzing the girls 3 times a day to keep them hydrated
Day 8
Both girls looking good. The light misting I've been giving isn't enough as the coco is bone dry 3 knuckles deep. I watered to runoff with distilled water mixed with blended aloe leaf. I hope to transplant by end of week 2.
Day 10
Dry medium again. One plant continues to stretch but not badly. The other has a downward leaf curl (possible light stress). ViParSpectra P400 is at 100w at 24".
Day 13
The plants started praying on Day 11. Since they were hungry and my feed caused tip burn, I decided to transplant a few days early. This way they can benefit from the super soil.
I meant to put them in 3 gallon cloth pots but I was high and put them in the 5 gallon buckets for outside so... we now have an outdoor Top Gun.
Watered in with 17oz of rain water with 2ml of CalMag and Fish Shi!t respectively. We're having a slight cold snap right now so they'll hang out in the 4x4 until it gets warmer (few days).
Day 15
They seem to have responded well to the transplant. Light has been increased from 25% to 35%. Temps are between 75° & 85°, RH is steady at 45%.
Day 18
The girls are outside in full sun. Pics taken 2 hours after coming out and a watering with mosquito dunk water. I didn't PH it tho. Hope that doesn't bite me. It's pretty windy so I'm not sure if the funky leaf on the blue pot is from wind or light stress. Thinking of a way to help reduce the wind but not stop it.
The girl in the white pot is praying nicely, but that Nitrogen deficiency is ugly. Can't really tell if it's spreading or if the transplant into the supersoil fixed it. I can water with a light dose of SimPro Veg, but I will wait until I'm sure it's needed. Have to be careful not to do that too close to top dress time. I'm only going to top dress with Bloom nutes, but I don't think it's wise to fertigate, then top dress within the same week or two. I might avoid it all together since I screwed up my last grow mixing feed styles.
Also had some non-harmful deer and rabbit repellent spread near the plants.
Day 40
I found out from Aurora Innovation that I should be top dressing once a week. So I top dressed today 2tbls of Terp Tea. Watered it in with 1gal of 6.5 spring water containing Azoz, Mykos, Fish Sh!t, and half tsp of SimPro Veg.
Day 42
The chunk up is nice!
Day 45
Fed 2tbl of Terp Tea Bloom watered in with 1gal of 6.5 PH spring water.
Day 48
Bud Rot on one of my Top Gun plants. So much for being best in catalog for mold resistance. They've never been in the rain. There has been a heat wave and high humidity though. I chopped off the moldy bud and cleaned my trimmers with alcohol.
Both plants are getting thicker by the day. With no side branching at all, the thickness is welcome!
Both plants are really surprising me. Good genetics. They had a horrible veg, in wrong soil, and these girl are frosty, dank, and chunky (1of2). I'd like to grow this again properly.
Day 54
This girl is done! Took a few microscope peeps toward the middle and I see about 40% amber trichomes.
Chopping tonight!
Gotta check the other one (Christmas Tree). Hoping she has a few weeks left to bulk up, I don't know if she's worth trimming and I hope it's not a male!
A few hours later...
Checked trichomes on several spots of the bud and we have 50/50 clear to cloudy. Needs another few weeks.
Day 62
Might have to chop if the rain comes. I can stash em for a day but not a whole week of rain. We'll see. The Xmas tree needs another 2 weeks at least. I think the uddin can come down.
Day 66
Trichome check on the actual buds is showing 20% cloudy, 80% clear. The one big bud is so thick and dense I want to chop it to avoid rot but I won't. I'd like 10% to 15% amber.
Watered with 6.5PH spring water, no nutes.
Day 71 Harvest
So this started indoor with a poor soil choice that caused issues (too compact, poor drainage). Stunted in veg twice. No side branching but the main on both shocked me. One is the size of a soda can and the other budded all over but never chunked up. Frosty, sticky, dank, fluff all over the plant. It's likely going to be a pain to trim but the way it looks and smells, I can't toss it, I know it's fire!
I have learned a lot since (indoor climate controls, amending, etc) that makes this strain worth revisiting indoor or outdoor.
I'm drying it in the HerbsNow dryer for 3 days then putting in jars for 4 weeks. Please come back for the smoke report!
26g total
Tried both and the Christmas tree is more 🔥, both are pretty dank.
Official smoke report after cure.
