Slow progress on these, just the 2 plants as a trial, I have ordered a better light and I need to look at getting the temperature up. I've got an even smaller plant that was a helmet-head seedling which is a week older still. I'll do better next time. I've got a small Tube heater and a Monkey Fan on in the tent. 16th May new light arrived, this is more like it I'm going to get the deck Chair out and catch some rays. I can now turn my heater off and get the tent to 24c at 80% relative humidity even without the COB bulbs turned on.

After reading up I think I've got a bit of Nutrient burn so will stick to water only for a while.

I'm going to read up on LST to see if I can start training the lateral branches a bit. For anyone looking, is this 'Flowering' or is this just still pre-flowers? (I've added a couple of magnifying glass shots. I'm finding it really interesting using the magnifying glass and looking at the tiny Trichomes develop. I've also added a couple of photos of one of the yellowing leaves.

I've been trying a few things with this now, trying to get a more consistent temp and humidity which I'm now managing 22c and 50-60% humidity. Thought I was maybe over-watering (have used a little Chicken Tea but very dilute), had a good poke about today and the pots felt quite dry actually so I've just flooded these and then ditched the run-off. I'm actually wondering if the shop bought compost is a bit too nutrient rich. I'm going to order some Coir for my next attempts and I can then at least dilute the compost with Coir, Vermiculite and Perlite. I've nipped off a couple of the worst looking leaves. 9th June Mosquito Bits added to all pots with a hint of nutrients. Brown dried leaves nipped off.

Thoughts on my yellowing leaves? I'm currently thinking the compost I bought my be too nutrient rich, check the 9th week in my Afghan Pearl CBD. I obviously need to learn from any mistakes I inadvertently make.

This problem goes hand-in-hand with your issue of fungus gnats... but if I hadn't seen that question/issue, I would have missed it! Yellowing leaves mid-way up the plant is indicative of overwatering... which will also cause fungus gnats to take up residence.... so one solution (water only when soil is very dry) will take care of both your issues (fungus gnats and yellowing leaves).... Good luck!

The larger of the plants is the one that @GrowingGrannie recommended some Mosquito Bits to deal with Fungus Gnats, I think its helping, I picked off a couple of dead leaves today but most of the plant is relatively alright and its buds are definitely filling out. Then the Helmet-Head slow grower plant is actually looking quite nice, this plant was potted with Compost, Perlite and Vermiculite and it drains so much better than the larger plant in the larger pot which is 100% compost with just a lighter mix in the top of the pot. I'm going to follow folks recommendations to water / feed only when the pots are really dry and the next plants I pot-on will either be a Coir/Perlite/Vermiculite blend or a Coir/Perlite/Vermiculite/Compost blend. But hit it with Mosquito Bits to deal any infestation, or better I should go buy some better compost for the blend, any tips for a mix would be appreciated. Thanks 17th June - Starting to smell good to the touch.

I've stuck a stick in the bigger plant and bending it to get a bit more light to the buds on the best side of the plant, this plant is a bit yellow in comparison to the little helmet-head case which is turning into a much nicer plant (Better draining compost and smaller pot). Maybe I should feed these a bit more, I'm watering about once to twice a week letting the pots dry out well each time, especially the 8L pot as it's compost is pure compost and it retains too much water, the smaller 3.8L pot with a better mix of Pearlite is much healthier. No Fungus Gnats left, Yay! 😁

The biggest plant is def getting closer to changing, sticky and smells great when you get it on your hands, I've staked and tied it to open up the best side to more light. Fingers crossed a week or two and I might be able to take some buds off this to dry. Having not had weed for years this is going to be an experience! Used pretty heavily back in the 90's for fun but now this is going to be more about hoping to relieve nerve paid and growing my own seemed much more legal than messing about with the TOR browser and Bitcoins / wallets / etc. I have a slight hope a bit of weed being vaped will replace a few beers each week so I have more days off alcohol each week. 30/06/22 - The Gnats are back at their Fungus Little F**kers! And they love the original Pots with compost in them, the pots with Coir in the same tent don't seem to be interesting to the Gnatty Little Fungus-Funsters! Mosquito Bits treatment flush to the big plant and a MB treatment and feed to the smaller plant.

When the time comes to harvest, is it OK to take the top of the plant off to dry first and leave the lower buds to develop more? Thanks

If you have 1 plant. And she's your only lady. Then why not. Just lower the diet, you don't wanna flush now, but you do want to visit lower the substrates overall ppm (the food left in the substrate) you can just let her eat tat for a few days and then take most of the top and all the sites on the top of the node that is done. Cause say if you leave a big as done bud at the end of a node it stops drawing up enough food as the plant feeds from the top so when the top stops drawing up food you'll find that any big plant will struggle to finish all at once. I did it, harvest every bit of larf. 3 part harvest. Have a look. Now all the Larfy/ white hairy girl turned from 90% white to 100% Amber it just shows once ripening is done its done. So you won't get too much fattening. So what I would suggest, if lower parts of trichomes are still cloudy, you want to remove all done bud on them nodes that you want to mature the lower growth you need to trick that part back into feeding as the top buds on the nodes are done and telling your plant to stop feeding. Now I just lollipop the shit outta my grows, anyone looking on for the 1st time would probably be looking on in horror but really removing lil bits of larfy growth in pre flower or before it uses up energy that could of been used to make nicer quality bud on top. It's all about energy management. Feel free to DM me I've some experience restarting and stopping the feed process. Good luck.

Water only for the bigger plant now until its ready, the fan leaves are yellowing now so I'm guessing its pulling its supplies into the buds getting ready to finish off. 4ml/L of Coco A+B for the Helmet head. Watering about twice a week 1L each plant. Both plants treated with Mosquito Bits last week as the Fungus Gnats, came in, and love the compost in these pots. Simply avoid B&Q Compost in the UK!

The leaves turned like this after a feed and a Mosquito Bits treatment, guessing I over-egged it with the nutes? Plants getting close to me cropping them, might leave them to dry out from their last water then chop.

You're SO close to harvest, I wouldn't worry about the nute problem at all... I think you've got the perfect plan - let her dry out, water then chop! Good luck - and good smokes!

These two are for the chop very soon and I will NEVER use garden center compost again with all its 'Free to a good home' Fungus Gnats! My first grow is nearly over, woo! I'm really really hoping this does something for nerve pain, albeit a interesting learning curve about growing things. I'm tempted to try an outdoor grow in a less visible spot in the garden.

Bigger Plant Chopped and Trimmed 12/06/22, have trimmed up then put on some netting in a darker corner of the grow area. I'm leaving the smaller plant a little longer. 17/07/22 - I'm going to leave the Helmet-head 1 more week then chop. Hopefully a couple more days and the first cropped plant's buds will be dry enough for a test smoke. Helmet-head harvested and dry by 12AUG22, not a bad little crop for such a small plant.

The helmet-head plant is still plodding on. I got one of those 100x Phone camera microscopes, though its still pretty random getting it to focus on stuff. I gave it a feed this week just to see what it does. I will follow with just water from now on.

I've been leaving this little helmet-head plant longer but its getting the chop soon. Dried by 12/08/22 and not a bad crop for the little helmet-head seed!
