Secret Sunset is a cross of Golden Pineapples and Secret OG. Soaked these beans in RO water and hydrogen peroxide for 48 hours and then planted directly into soil.
I didnt notice this at first, but after transplanting the seedlings, i noticed that one had two taproots sprouting. After 24 hours of planting, i successfully seperated the twins and put them in different containers.
6 plants from 5 seeds, now thats stonks!
5/24
Now that the seedlings are pretty established and getting leggy, I removed the humidity domes and turned off the heating mat. I can already see roots on the bottom of #4, so I am second-guessing my choice on the starting container size. I guess standard solo-cup size wouldve been ideal.
Chugging along!
<5/26>
4 days from sprout. I found out that the organic coco potting mix I was using was definitely NOT for seedlings. I flushed all 6 babies today, ending with runoff around 80ppm, down from 600...
I have no idea how these seedlings arent fried, but they should be back on track now.

Well. 21 days old and looking like 14 days... These plants have (mostly) somehow survived my rollercoaster of care. A lot has happened in the past couple weeks. I transplanted these plants since they were showing signs of overwatering and the substrate wouldnt dry out, even after 3 days. I really didnt give them much water either.
That being said, these plants have been growing better than any of the other genetics in the tent. The runt-twin is the oldest looking plant now! In a week or so, I will be sending plant samples in to get these plants sexed! After that, I will be culling the males and transplanting the females to their final pots!
-6/14-
I took leaf samples today for presexing!!

39 days from sprout
Its been a crazy couple of weeks!! These plants stayed small because i waited way too long to send in plant samples for sexing and kept them in their small pots. They needed water daily and drank like crazy. #4 and #5 were in really small pots and stayed smaller than the rest.
5 out of the 6 plants turned out to be female, with #2 being a male. I guess I really should have only popped 3 seeds, cuz I really wasnt planning on this many females in the tent. Guess I am doing an SOG then. Too bad I only had 3 gallon fabric pots and nothing smaller. Oh and I also topped the plants about 9 days ago.
I transplanted these ladies six days ago into FoxFarm CocoLoco. Immediately after transplant, I fed them at 600ppm with little to no runoff. 48 hours later when I watered with RO and calmag to 80ppm, I was getting runoff ppms of 2400.... and I could already visibly see nute lockout with calcium and magnesium deficiencies, along with just looking really hungry. I flushed each pot with about 3 gallons of RO water to bring the runoff ppm to 400-600.
After that, i gave them RO water with calmag to 100ppm and noticed them perk up immediately but still looked really hungry. After feeding them yesterday again at 600ppm, these ladies are really starting to perk up and grow a bit. Finally!!! A few girls are starting to smell tropical.
In about a week or so when these ladies fill in, I will be taking clones of each plant and flipping to flower.
-7/7- 5 days since flip
Really regretting the forced SOG and still kicking myself. Its not easy dialing in so many different plants that behave completely differently. Thankfully the deficiencies have mostly disappeared on all plants. I am still dealing with high runoff PPMs with lighter feedings.
This genetic seems much stretchier from the sativa side of their genes. I defoliated the lower 40% of the plant, getting lots of stinky, peppery, tropical scents. The most attractive plant structure so far is easy the #3 twins. All phenos have explosive root growth and have roots poking through every inch of the fabric pot.
I am waiting for my cloning supplies to arrive so I can finally take cuttings!!! Ive already picked out the branches that I will be slicing.
-7/14- Day12
These ladies are getting very stretchy and showing a sativa/hybrid structure. #5 has a U-shaped skeletal structure while most of the other ladies are either wide or narrow V-shaped.
The tops of the ladies are exploding with white hairs. All 5 phenos are roughly the same height and growing a few inches a day. I am raising the light on their side daily.
-7/16- Day14
STOPPPP. Growing.....
At this point the Secret Sunset ladies are starting to make the XXX look short. More preflowers! #31 and #32 seem more squat than the others. I might need to hold onto these ladies for that reason. I renamed the twins to 31 and 32 since the seed was #3. #31 was the dominant twin and larger than #32 AT FIRST. they are both very even at this point.
RH of about 70% is unacceptable at this point. Im ordering a dehumidifier that will help keep it below 60%.
---7/20-- Day18
First things first, #1 started to herm and throw clusters of balls. This one also had the most patchy and stretchy growth. Chopped it and tossed the clones. #5 showed four or so balls, primarily on small branches that weren't getting light under the canopy. There was also one swollen calyx that had bananas inside.... Keeping a very close eye on this one. If things go south, I will be chopping this 3 foot monster and chucking the clones. That means that 5 of the 9 Surfr females hermed, which could definitely be 100% on me. These are literally my first photoperiod plants. This is also my first grow in over a year. This could also be due to light leaks, as I know there are pinholes along the seams of the tent. OR.... it could be from them stretching towards the light and getting stressed by the light. Regardless, I cannot keep herms.
All that BS aside, these ladies are smelling amazing and stretching WAY TOO DAMN MUCH. The spot I topped on each plant is 10 inches from the dirt. #4 and #5 are now approaching 3 feet tall while #31 and #32 are about 5in shorter. This means that the branches are a minimum 2 feet right now. Will they need support...? Probably lol so FML
These ladies seem very healthy so far. Chugging along for the long haul. These babies are gonna go LONG, I can already tell.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
STOP STRETCHING
PLEASE....
-7/22- Day20
#5 is really starting to stink and smell heavenly. So far, no more male parts.
I finally got the RH down to 50-58% from the 68-70% that i was sitting at for a little while. My temp sensor was also buried in the canopy and wasnt getting an accurate reading, so the 76° temps were really closer to 81 or higher.
I am running out of real estate when it comes to raising my one light. Maybe a foot or so... this is mental! Also worth noting, the stems on these ladies are super thick, especially for how tall they are. The clones are going into 2gal bags to hopefully make them stay shorter.
--7/23-- Day21
All the ladies are eating 100% of what Im giving them. My feeding schedule right now is 300ppm on water days, 900ppm on feed days, switching every 48 hours. Runoff PPMs are the exact same coming out as they are going in, so I may need to start feeding them more very soon.
--7/24-- Day22
Giving another high ppm feeding today and turned the lights down to roughly 80%. The XXX in the tent was starting to get burnt from the lights and I noticed the Secret Sunset ladies showing light stress as well. Most of the leaf tips were bright green/yellow on the SS, while the XXX is showing dark spots between veins and also brown leaf edges in other areas.
Temps went down by 5°F once i turned down the lights lol its been a hot one here. Tent temps went from 82-83 down to 78°F. Ironically enough, Im pretty sure these lights are too powerful for the space.
---7/25--
Well. I think they slowed down on stretching and started building bud structure, however #4 is about 41 inches tall. Thankfully I can turn the light intensity down a bit, to about 75% now.
#4 and #5 are showing light stress/burn but nothing crazy. I'm hoping they recover quickly. #32 and #31 smell more tropical whereas #4 and #5 smell more spicy right now. Excited to see how these phenos turn out, but not excited to see how much taller they get. I have about 6 inches left to raise the light before I'm SOL and forced to turn the intensity down.
#5 has shown no more bananas or pollen-sacs that I've noticed. However #32 had a single banana growing out of a single calyx with a pistil. I checked over all four phenos for balls once again and found nothing else. I also rearranged the ladies in the tent from tallest to shortest.
Smooooooth sailing 😎
-7/29- D27
I think these ladies are done stretching! I have not found any additional male parts on any of the ladies, but I will be checking over every plant again tomorrow. #31 and #32 stayed shorter and stopped stretching. I am curious to see the differences between these twins in this run and then in clone!
--8/9--
Well, I'm really hoping these ladies aren't going to take too much longer than their neighbors in the tent, because as of now they are looking a 2weeks+ behind the XXX. All phenos seem to be at a similar point in flowering, frosting and starting to build buds.
#31 and #32 are a bit shorter than #4 and #5, although #4/5 smell spicey/piney/gassy while #31/32 smell more tropical. The piney/gassy smell is present in all phenos.
Bud structure is definitely sativa leaning so far. I'm extremely interested to see how these ladies turn out. I love OGs and I love pineapple so ❤️🔥
--8/12-- D41
#32 dropped pollen from a missed male part inside of a female calyx. I removed the branch and sprayed all of the lowers with water to hopefully avoid a crazy amount of pollination. If any of these ladies throw balls in the clone tent, I may have to chuck them. I am hoping the clones shake this trait...
#4 is now 4ft tall and LEANING hard. I have a feeling that I will need to do a better job at supporting these branches very soon. She smells like straight up sugary Skittles. Very sharp and sugary. Almost like lemon Skittles but a tad tropical. I'm thinking this pheno is leaning towards the Golden Pineapple.
#5 is FROSTY and has the craziest fan-leaves. The leaves towards the top are canoeing at the base and frosting up like crazy. The bud structure is wack so far, but I'm liking it more than her sisters. This one has a strong OG nose, dank and gassy. I'm guessing this one is leaning towards the FaceOff OG.
#31 and #32 smell like a blend of tropical and gassy terps. The structure on these two are very sativa-leaning so far.
All four ladies are LEANING and have hardly built up any bud-weight. Looks like I might need to get tomato cages or some sort of trellis system up for future runs. Longggggggg way to go.
