This was my first week of my first ever grow and I couldn't be a happier seed-parent. So far I've planted the seed directly into the soil and have been spray-mist watering so the seedling doesn't drown, but still gets water. I've decided to name this plant Ashtray (the first of many iterations) and look forward to her continued growth. I am starting this particular journal as of week 7 so they're are definitely some ups and downs coming for this grow. Stay tuned!

Week two is off to a good start with the introduction of grow nutrients (Grow A and B) from Nutri+. These nutrients were a great price and recommended to me by the salesman from Bob's Grow Mart in Thorold, Ontario. I have been using a pH water testing kit to obtain a range of 6.0 to 6.4 using pH down if needed from my tap water. Leaves are developing fine but not too much vertical growth yet. Feeding approximately 1L (2mL of each Grow A & B) of water every two or three days depending on how dry my soil is. Haven't adjusted my light or switched out my small humidifier. Next week I will be switching into the dehumidifier to focus on environment change from seedling to vegetative stage. Overall, I am very happy with how this girl is developing.

This week was great. Growth in the leaves and new sites are the most exciting thing to me right now. I continue to water with 1L of water + nutes when soil is dry - about every 2 to 3 days still. At this point I have switched out my small humidifier to the dehumidifier to create a more comfortable environment for veg. I was very nervous for LST, and as you can see, gave up on using weak garden wire after only one day. However, the benefits experienced from even the smallest amount of LST has been noticed and I will continue LST when I find an alternative the weak garden wire I purchased from the dollar store. Thinking those bent garden stakes to hold down branches.

This week saw amazing growth in terms of the bushiness and verticality as well. I am still watering about every 2 to 3 days depending on when the soil dries. The environment has been consistent and the plant seems to be responding well to everything. I did end getting those bent garden stake thingys. They made LST so much easier on the branches as it didn't require tying like the wire. I do intend to practice using the wire though as these stakes need to be staked into the soil and I'm not too sure if they affect the roots of the plant at all. I did neglect to LST my main stem and the results of this are unpleasant. Stay tuned to find out what happens!

Do the bent garden stakes actually affect the roots/root development? I don't dig them all to deep, just enough to hold my branches down for LST - about 1-2 inches into the soil.

Anything that takes space down there will have an influence. If it's too much of an influence depends on the thickness of the stakes and how many you use. I don't use stakes no more. I rather use ties and have something to attach them to like a grid below the pot or something.

With a mature plant it won't affect the plant much. If you damage the roots its like pruning them. When ever you stake your branches in the medium make sure the stakes are sterile so the roots don't get affected by bad bacteria. Cheers!

The plant has seen an explosion of outward and vertical growth. I would attribute the outward growth to the LST that I've been doing on the lower branches. Really happy with these results and the even-ness of the canopy so far. The plant has been thirstier and I've been giving her about 1L of water, alternating with nutes, every 1-2 days depending on soil dryness. Vertical growth has seen Ashtray at approx. 12 inches at the beginning of the week to around approx. 20 inches by the end. This has caused me to raise my light a little as to not burn them out. Seeing as we're going into the flower stage, I also did some very light defoliation with some of my fan leaves towards the bottom of the plant. You can see a difference in this canopy bushiness between May 15th and 16th due to the loss of leaves. I'm hoping this will focus more energy to the bud sites that need it most in the coming flowering weeks.

This week was exciting as I know the plant is flowering. I think it might have started flowering last week but my inexperience couldn't tell that small pistils had emerged. The plant keeps growing vertically but is getting very skinny. I've been finishing off with the Grow nutrient package and have just been feeding 6.4 pH water. I read online that long and skinny plants can be caused by weak lighting. However, I also read that the plant will grow vertically throughout the flowering phase. If anyone has any answers/thoughts, please leave them below! Thanks so much. I did get a new tent as she outgrew the 2x2x4 and she is now homed in a 3x3x6.

Introduced Bloom A & B nutrients from Nutri+. Raised the amounts due to more water required by the plant (2mL of grow nutes to 3mL of grow nutes). I fed it nutrients two days in a row and I think that caused the burn on the leaves. I will be doing nutrients every alternating day but water everyday. The plant keeps getting taller and I think it's because I kept it in veg for too long and the light isn't all too strong, will upgrade for my next grow. Bud sites continue to develop along branches and trichomes are starting to pile on the closest leaves to the buds. Patient with this one compared to some other autoflowers I've been seeing.

Does anyone have any opinions on why my plant has grown so tall? My theories are (1) the light is probably too weak or (2) I didn't LST properly. I would bend the main stem back and forth to encourage more bud sites but after 4 weeks I took the main branch out of LST.

By the stretching and the large internodal distances, I would say your first thought is correct, the light is not strong enough. Simple.

I grew an autoflower (Tangerine Dream) that was supposed to only be about 30" tall... grew to over 50" and was a pain in the neck! Your plant is NOT stretching because the lights are so far away, truly... I have friends who normally keep their lights about 4' away from their grow and the plants get to be the height they get to be - often, with their autoflowers, not much more than 23-26" ... No, what you're dealing with is simple genetics and it's nothing to cry about! You'll have an amazing harvest. You CAN gently pull the top flowers away from the light if it looks like they're getting burned but I've got a grow now where the main cola is literally sitting 1.5" away from the light and is as happy as a clam... no burning at all... Still, you can do some light LST by pulling them away - it won't hurt and it would open up the lower bud sites to more light. With my Tangerine Dream, since it was threatening to rip the top of my tent off, I was doing LST right up until harvest and one of my LST attempts was actually HST in that I bent the poor stem into a 90-degree angle that I hadn't meant to do.... didn't bother the lady... actually helped with the lower buds! Good luck - it's all a grand adventure and your grow looks great!

Plants stretch for three reasons. Eighter the lightsource is far away, you have lots of heat or just genetics. When looking at your diary your lights are way to high probily because of your long stretched main cola. Just bend your main cola with dread carefully and lower your lamps, Goodluck Growing :)

The plant keeps getting taller. I'm just really disappointed in myself at this point for not researching the light properly and letting the plant grow into this uneven monster. Just going to be patient with her and try to harvest whatever I can whenever she's ready. The nugs are slow progressing. In other people's diaries the nugs grow exponentially week over week while mine seem to growing very slowly. I think all of these problems stem from the weak light but I don't really know for sure. Kind of just want this one to be over with so I can try again on my next grow. The smell of the tent is not noticeable but whenever I touch the branches my fingers smell so good. A fruity, gassy, dank smell stays on my fingers for a couple minutes until slowly fading off. If it tastes like this after harvest, I will be very happy.

Same old with this week. The buds on some branches are fattening up, while some branches continue to stretch to get more light. Putting in a trellis net to hold up some of the weaker branches so they don't grow along the tent. This is NOT how you want your top cola to look in Week 10. Mine has stretched beyond my imagination and will likely harvest nothing from the site that's supposed to produce the most. Really disappointed but learned a valuable lesson in light strength and how it affects the stretching of plants.

This week has been more of the same of feeding and just watching her get frostier. A close-up lens shows that my trichomes are becoming cloudy but not so much amber right now. I think I'm going to start flushing this week and prepare for harvest within the next couple of weeks. Buds from this plant will be small and skinny - the exact opposite of what we're looking for. All a learning experience.

I think I took the nutrients off too early and now these sad looking sprouts are on my plant. Don't exactly know what happened but I think my impatience did not help this girl. Learning a lot of lessons about growing and patience with the plant.

What happened here? I'm running an autoflower and am in week 12. I thought my trichome heads were getting cloudy with some amber, so I started the flushing process but I think it was too early. Is that the case?

One word.... blurple Not enough light, you're not growing that in the led lit footwell of your broken 3 cylinder vauxhall nova on your drive and sit in it banging tunes out your subwoofer charging up the battery by any chance? I say it all the time, should have just bought a bag of weed instead. Learn about plant requirements and how they work and give it a go. I'm sorry for you 😔

Poor genetics, common with auto flowers unfortunately. Yes, a bit early. I wait until there are about 95% brown pistils before starting a flush, then harvest a week or two later when there are about 98-99% brown pistils. This will put your plant in the "10-30% amber trichome" zone without having to look too closely. Hope this helps, Organoman.

Too much nitrogen in Feed I think was your biggest issue here. Very light nitrogen in flowering, especially bulking stage.

Hi GlassFanatic, your lamp was to high all the time which makes the plant stretch in search for light and you have to place the lamp 10inch above the plant and weekly measure and higher up the lamp to its sweet spot. I'm now following you because I think your next grow will be better. Don't worry, in my first indoor growth my plant died so your doing better than me (I over light and gave to much nutrients) I searched up the lamp distance for your lamp... Hope your not scared away and start again with a different lamp height setup.
