Exactly the same the auto 1 diary for 2022 -
Seeds soaked for 8-10 hours in a glass of water, then transferred to small pots in grow tent - germination was quite fast this time around 3-4 days and they all sprouted at exactly the same time. Another week in the tent and they'll be outside to join the others.
Light was on 'veg' for 24 hours as before. Light amount of BioBizz Bio-Grow added to soil.... doubt it makes a difference but it hasn't killed them.
I am curious to see how the two Gorilla's do battle - it's Barney's Farm vs Sweet Seeds. All plants are treated equally... so let's see how this goes :)
Note: Just using the site, I noticed there is a Ganja Farmer seed retailer - I have no connection at all to them... my nick comes from circa 2005 or 6 on XBOX Live. There was a news report about Microsoft banning players with names like "cocaine" and stuff like that, so, for a joke I decided to see if I could get away with "ganjafarmer"... The account is still active and my brother still uses it occasionally. So, in short, no affiliation.
1st week of vegetation - still in the tent. They'll be moved outside soon.
Definitely a bit too crowded for 10 small pots in the tent - max is ideally 6 (at that size)
I wonder if the outer plants will benefit (later on) from the stretching...
All plants outside and well settled. Weather has been kind (so far)
Seems to be a better start all round with this batch compared to the other one. We'll see how it pans out....
Trying to catch up with this one before I forget!
Okay, this week was much the same as before - the usual worrying slow start and then (later) they suddenly spring up out of nowhere.
Decent weather - hot but not for too long and some decent shade/cloud cover.
Ran out of Bio-Grow and Amazon courier couldn't find house... so, for about a week it was mostly Bio-Heaven and Acti-Vera not much else. Then realised I don't need Acti-Vera which is just for coco mix (I didn't read the chart properly)
Finally collected Bio-Grow towards the end of the week.... and the plants started flowering. Did, however, discover that Bio-Grow works wonders in the vegetable garden :)
2nd wave have started flowering so time to retire Bio-Grow and move on to flowering nutrients.
I'm expecting them get a bit more height but they're doing well - possibly better than the first wave all round.
Weather is hot but still getting some good shade here and there.
Much the same as before - no real changes.
Plants, overall, appear smaller than round 1 - but I'm wondering if they'll have denser colas? We shall see...
Weather has still been kind (ish) More unexpected cloud cover today and dropped a few degrees into the safe zone (29C) but it's threatening to be a lot hotter very soon.
Losing track of this diary because I'm too busy harvesting the first grow! Time to catch up :)
Grow is going smoothly but the heat is fierce... hitting 40C and there's nothing much I can do about it based on the grow set up (I can't move them around... wherever they go, it's still going to be too hot - even in the shade)
Into week 8 - I think I've managed to time these well... yes, they've had 40C+ temps - but only in the really final weeks and I bunched them towards the wall so they got more shade and less of the infernal sunshine. Sometimes you can have too much of a good thing... the heat is good but it sends them crazy and stunts their growth really badly.
Feed schedule is mostly the same except in the last 10 days I've skipped the feed on 2 nights because I wanted to make sure they've extracted all they can from the soil/water/nutrients. It's also a bit of an experiment to see if it pushed the calyxes to swell a (little) bit more?
I've got some photos running alongside these and I might make a diary for them as well.
The very last plant in the video above is the Sweet Seeds "Gorilla Girl XL" - amazing colours that the camera can't pick up properly. My pick of the bunch aesthetically, she exploded beautifully.
The very first plant is the Barney's "Gorilla Glue" auto - this and one of the "Sweet Mimosa XL's" seem to be a week slower than the others. Still a lot more furry than finished :)
Week 9 and this is definitely the final week.
Just one of them doesn't seem ready - Gorilla Glue - and it reminds me of the massive Wedding Cake Auto I harvested a few weeks ago. I chopped that too early and I didn't wait for the calyx's to ripen and really swell out.... I'm not making that mistake again :) The others are all ready though. It's going to be a 9 and a half week grow in total - chopping them down today/tomorrow and Friday.
Let's see how round 2 delivers...
A very pleasant spicy aroma/taste - quite a contrast to my other strains. The grow went very easily and a nice yield (I'm happy to average around 50g (dry) for autos)
Original review as 7/10 but, after a bit more curing, I'd comfortably put this at 10/10. It all went very well...
Another thumbs up for Sweet Seeds :)
Very impressed with the yields across the board - and especially the terpenes. Lovely smell on these, fruity and very sweet :)
This was probably the most successful grow this year - it tops the Sweet Mimosa for consistency and, even though the Mimosa does smell/look great - this one just has the edge in my opinion. Another 10/10... Very nice high, not too heavy, and perhaps more creative/uplifting compared to the Mimosa (which hits like a juggernaut) but still packs its own very nice punch.
Another massive yield for Barney's Farm (the Wedding Cake Auto also came out huge) Nice solid,f dense, fruity nugs, nice terpene profile. All in all, a very easy grow - no problems at any point - harvest was closer to 10 weeks from germination (not 9). I'm very impressed, especially because it was a free sample. Thank you kind man in the shop :)
Another smooth (ish) grow. All went well with plants 1, 2 and 3 - but plant 4 was stunted by the extreme heat near the end and had to go on for a week or so more (along with Gorilla Glue in this diary) When I dried out this last Mimosa plant - in less than 2 days it was bone dry - bordering on sawdust. A bit of a panic and a super fast trim and jar - it's now sweating a bit and a bit better, but I can't get over how quickly they dried out... normally it's around 5 days.
Very reliable plant - nice big buds and some good yields - again, across the board Sweet Seeds are more consistent. Whereas with other seeds I get a variety of sizes/yields - Sweet Seeds are more equal - they're all roughly the same size. The overall yields weren't as high as the other Sweet Seeds strains I've grown - but I do think this is more about the weather (ridiculous high heat) than anything else. So the problem is here...
Two of the plants weighed in at 40 g each. The other two (esp 4) were small.
1 month later... of all the strains I've grown this year (so far) this one is quite the heavy hitter. A nice smooth but very heavy vape. Lovely flavour, beautiful frosty, dense, nugs.
I just wish that last plant hadn't gone belly up - this was a good grow otherwise. 10/10
@JamesBarre,
Yeah, no training, no defoliation, no topping, etc... I'm still learning, but I want to see what I can get out of doing a 'lazy' grow first. I'm averaging around 50g per plant - dry weight. Thanks for popping into the diary to have a look :)
