22 Northern Lights Northern Alberta

June 8: planted out first seedling into 7 gallon bag. Using peat pots as intermediate container because it is too cold here to start seeds outdoors and I don’t have room for final containers inside. After about one week roots are coming out the bottom. It was pretty cool in May with some frost nights so I’m glad I waited until June to start these.

June 8: Northern wildlife for Northern Lights diary. Great Horned Owl ( I think) as shot on old iPhone from grow area. There for about 20 minutes not moving, just swivelling his head around looking for a meal.

June 24: we’ve had a very cool and rainy June. Quite different than last year at this time when the heat dome was hitting 37 C daily.

July 4: topped both plants.

July 8: big thunderstorm last night had a few minutes of hail that did mostly minor damage. Some fan leaves with holes and others taken right off the plant. Oh well. Now I know that some of the mystery holes in leaves might just be hail damage. July 9: these Northern Lights are the fastest growing of the autos in this batch. Added Power Bloom and a handful of malted barley as a top dressing. July 11: growing fast with hot and sunny forecast for the next two weeks. 👍

July 28: Weather has been nearly perfect for last three weeks and all plants are doing great. July 31: started using soluble wood ash as a K source. See today’s Gorilla Gelato diary entry for details.

Nearing end so just plain oHed water now.

Sep 8: surprise hailstorm last night did some damage. Heavy buds were causing the stems to topple so harvested first round. First round 270 g wet.

Sep 16: lower buds on plant 1 and most of plant 2 are still going.

Sep 21: almost had first frost last night at 0.5 C but quickly became a nice 21 C day. Sep 23: harvested final 250 g wet for total of 520 g.

Nice sturdy plants. Two different phenos that both did well including surviving a hailstorm a couple weeks before final harvest.
