Finally starting the diary for my durban fem, planted in open soil 5/25/22 (from seed). i have done literally no upkeep, only weekly watering, added a bit of compost one week, yet it's thriving. so low maintenance. my dad refused to top it (hes been caring for it for the past month), claiming that it will mess up its growth, but i'll start training a bit in about a week. there's a heat wave this week (40ºc today), but im not too worried as she got a lot of water this weekend.
i have weekly photos, so im gonna figure out how to start the diary from the real Day 1.

the usual - just water on the weekend. it's looking fking great.
the structure is interesting, lots of leaves on top but long internodal space below - not surprised because she gets a little bit less direct sunlight hours than i expected
literally just guessing the height - havent been able to see it in person in over a month, i cant wait to get back to her.
She's due for a loooong inspection, gotta figure out what the spots are - dad says it's just water but idk
she needs some nutrients desperately. needs a good watering too, but she's still coming along well i think.
adding more compost because i dont want to overcorrect the deficiency.
definitely have to clear the ground around her, but the mint around it shades the soil around the base so im leaving those.
7/24 - gave her a good watering and some bio bloom just to get some guaranteed essentials. the veggies around it are definitely hogging the nutrients but whatever, it be like that. upper leaves are kind of folded upwards, i imagine because of the heat (it was like this before giving any nutrients). gave her a neem oil mist bath to get rid of all the pests that are adding to the problem.
preflowering. going to be able to water far more regularly now.
7/27 - tied on lil branch to the side, not touching it much. i dont want to defoliate and end up stressing her out
She’s looking great. Gave her a tiny amount (.5ml) of N-heavy nutes last night and she seems to like it.
Grasshoppers are loving her, but there’s not much I can do about them, and the plant is doing fine in spite of them
(3/8) jesus she grew more than 20cm this week
Looking great. Ridiculously low maintenance. This past week i topped with some chicken shit (4-3-2) as a slow release N source, and gave some bloom. we're at 18 main colas with at least 3 extra bud sites per branch. If all goes to plan, this should be a massive yield. Applying neem tonight as a preventative measure before it really starts to flower. Hoping the stretching starts to slow, it's very conspicuous - need to start planning for when the surrounding greenery dies out. Getting some purple on the stems (we've had some cooler nights), hoping i get some purple buds too.
4/9 - calyxes are purple, nice. Applied neem last night as there is one branch with a borderline mite infestation
Rough week with the weather. not much sun, constant showers, a lot of wind and a massive hailstorm (stones were almost golfball size). fortunately it only broke 2 small sites and some leaves.
Noticed ants, seemingly attracted to these jumping bugs (psyllidae it would seem), which is never a good sign. they camouflage so well that theyre super hard to find and kill. Hoping that these are the conditions durban is bred to withstand, but i'll be keeping a close eye on it and looking at insecticide options
Minor leaf miner activity, but dont feel like treating it with neem this late. i just remove those leaves or the infected finger. such a resilient plant. the hailstorm definitely did some damage but she healed nicely. definitely going to have a lot of popcorn nugs but whatever, the yield should still be great barring mold/rot/mildew. wish she'd finish in about 2 weeks because the nights are getting colder and humidity/rain will only increase from here, but she has at least 3 weeks left - pistils arent even turning brown yet. no signs of bud rot, had a scare last week but it was just a tiny feather
Late update. Debating whether I do a partial harvest this weekend to open up the lower buds. Trichomes are all cloudy from what I see, and the top branches have full buds. Pissed i didnt pay close attention to when it really started flowering, I'm either 5 or 6 weeks in.
A lot of purple trichomes, very cool. Aroma is insane, not super smelly (compared to WZ) but smells exactly like a watermelon holy shit
Wednesday 5/10 will be week 17.
1/10 Found one bud with rot, removed it, but now i'm thinking of starting the harvest even if she'd appreciate another 5-7 days. The top colas are big enough, and i see no clear trichomes. this is my last plant so i can't get greedy and end up losing the whole thing
Partial harvest 3/10 - took off about 15 colas, definitely could have left them a bit longer but I wanted to open up lower colas. will be done drying after 7 days
Partial harvest 9/10 - took about 15 more colas off to start drying and open up more colas.
Doing a progressive trim but gd i have a lot of work in front of me.
sensi wasnt exaggerating when they say this is a resistant, low maintenance strain. I wasnt able to pay attention to it for its 1st month and a half, but it grew perfectly. Withstood 40ºc heat wave, a major hail storm and 10 days straight of rain/high humidity mid flower. fast flowering esp for a sativa. definitely could have left it go for about a week longer in retrospect, but i have 100g curing and more than half the harvest left drying. really a must try strain, would love to see what a more experienced grower could do with it. I think a bit of training + pruning would help get less popcorn.
