Continuing with training, waiting another week to flip to 12/12 - we have a straggler in this grow that got a late start. Gave a feeding of homebrew alfalfa tea too.
Last week of 18/6 lights. We’ll flip the lights tomorrow and watch for when flowering begins. She’s a beautiful lush plant. Likely to be the green pheno, but I’m good with that because the green pheno is known to produce excellent yields.
Defoliated a little down low to reduce humidity around the base of the plant due to her dense foliage. Removed some of the smaller lower branches too simply because they’ll only yield popcorn and take energy away from the colas that will form above.
And we are stretching!
No sign of flowers but this stretch is mad! Added a dose of Recharge to bump up my microbials and mycorrhizae to help her keep up with demands during this explosive growth.
Another dose of recharge this week to support her stretch! She needs to be done! I’m gonna run out of room! Flowering started to appear on 7/1. Taking a few large leaves from below here and there, not wanting to stress her.
Decided to Super-Crop now while she is super early in flower because with the slanted ceilings, I just don’t have the head space to get the lights up off the colas more than 18” if the colas get more than 6” tall. Would rather her have a recovery now than when she js loaded with buds - so I carefully bent all of her branches down 90 degrees so that she is back to about 38-40” tall. Gave her a dose of cal-mag to help her cope with the demands of explosive growth, and a dose of Superthrive to help her heal from the super-cropping
I was unwell and had someone else tending to my plants sending me images and descriptions of what they were seeing. Based on the images and their descriptions and the stage of flower and size of the plant after its explosive growth that it was showing an early deficiency in K, and some light stress because I had turned the light intensity up to 100% 2 weeks prior to try and stop any more upward stretching but the plant was still closing the gap on the light. That matched the toasted leaf tips we were seeing from the bottom up and the very slight clawing/pricking of the leaves they reported. So we added 1/8tsp of the bloom master product as it is the 4th week of flower and I had planned to start that the next week anyway.
Realized my mistake this week - I see some clawing, worse on another strain this grow, but I’m afraid I’ve over-nuted. Last week what I saw was not the typical K-lack toasted tips but the beginning of nute-lockout. This Earth Juice is stout stuff, I’m not sure the Bloom-Master is needed at all if feeding an amended soil like mine. Peyote Gorilla is taking it all in stride though. She’ll get recharge, bud candy with either silica or cal-mag at each feeding for a bit (without her bloom nutes). I think there was enough P-K in my soil that adding the dry organic nutes into water just overloaded her.
So everything was going great, until the AC went out on us. Went up to check the grow and see how I might move the fans around to try and evacuate some hot air, but found Peyote Gorilla laying over. Tied her up but she laid back down overnight - so I made her a PVC support and wove some string thru it just to give her branches something to lean against. Got the AC back up by the next grow day. I think the off tue charts VPD did her in. But she is hanging with us. Those buds are thicc and heavy. I’ll support her as much as she needs. None of the other plants were affected like this / they wilted but didn’t lay over. I’m sure this was just the sheer weight of her buds.
She showed me some amber trichomes mid-week; so I’ll be keeping a close eye on her. Her trichome heads are so fat, milky and lovely. I anticipate I’ll be chopping her next week.
This was the green pheno. Thus far I have tried the finger hash and vape.
The finger hash was a mild chem note. surprisingly smooth and pleasant hit. There was a smooth transition to the high, almost a sleeper. The high is wonderfully relaxing. like sinking into a cloud, not not sedating. I could sleep on this if I wanted, or stay up and binge watch all of Yellowstone. I’m impressed. I really like this high. Hope the smoke turns out as lovely after the cure is done. I’ll report back and edit this.
Growing Peyote Gorilla was nearly effortless. This grow I got the green phenotype, and it sure did produce!! Our AC went out when she was LOADED with seltzer can sized colas and the extreme temps {over 95°F and humidity 85%-95% did cause her to lay over, but she wasn't down for the count. I got a fan on them right away (which may be why she laid over) just to make do until the AC was repaired.
After we got AC back online the next day, I made a makeshift PVC support for her. I ran some string across the PVC frame to help brace her and she continued on. No mold, no rot, not even an hint, and she had good reason to develop it!
She's got some amber but is also still trying to stack new calyx's. I could let her go for longer and get even beastier buds than I have, but she's got plenty on her and I just don't see the point. I'm taking her down while I see that most of her trichs are still milky with lush intact heads with 10-15% amber. I know she's going to produce so much that I'll have some in the vault for a while, and those trichs will continue to mature, so that is another reason it makes sense to take her now instead of in a week or so. I spent a great part of this grow stopped up without ability to smell anything other than "green". When was able to smell her I detected a very slight citrus top-note and some green woods mid-notes and just a hint of earthy base note. She is a lovely cultivar that I will likely grow again and again. Though in the future if I get a green pheno again, I will not let her veg for more than 4-5 weeks. There's just no point to such a big plant indoors without a SCROG.
Also of note, another plant in the room got a new spider mite infestation when PG had two week to go. She managed to fend off the little critters herself. I expected she would be the one they'd head for since she was probably weaker due to her issues with the heat and humidity. But nope. The spider mites didn't seem to like her.
@SolitudeCorners, Look for Growers United. We’ve built another server, it’s not seedsman but it is much of the same crew, hanging together waiting to see where our peeps at seedsman land. If you can PM me on discord, I’ll send ya an invite - otherwise, check back in with me here if you want one.
@LegacyMarketFarm, I can't, but will, wait to try the smoke. But it won't be easy waiting😎. I'll probably vape it to get an idea of the terp profile after it dries down, but I won't try smoking before she is fully cured. I hope my next grow of it is the purple pheno, but it'll be a minute because there is enough on this one to last a bit.
I'm going to try and reveg that blue dream and germ a Seedsman Peyote Wifi and a Pyramid Seeds Black Cherry Punch next. I keep telling myself to only do 3 this time.... but I also really want to grow that Seedsman CBG to see if it can take away the muscle spasms without making one "high".
I've also got something coming from an up and coming breeder, Eazy Daze in Holt, MI to try - Hope it's here in time to go with the next grow - so wait, that's 5 again. I can't be responsible for my own actions 😄 - electric bill be damned!
@LegacyMarketFarm, Thanks! She is coming down today or tomorrow along with the Black Sugar. I'd be totally for letting her continue to chunk out those cans, but despite my feeding silica the whole grow, she can't hold up their weight and they just lay over. I'm definitely going to grow this one again and again, except I'll only veg her for 4-5 weeks in the future. Maybe next time I'll get a purple pheno.
@VertiGrow, Thanks! I can't wait until she is cured and I can see how she smokes. I'll probably sample her with the dynavap in about 10-12 days just to see what kind of terp profiles and general feel she has.
