7/15 - New res change and new buckets, added Armor Si and Cal Mag to the regime this week
7/18 - 7/19 - After a couple of days the buckets started to look bad, I think due to a number of factors, 1) the weather got super hot and I couldnt keep my res any lower than 72F and hit 73F a couple of times. The airstones and roots had silica gel build up on them that also caused some root rot (I think). The Silica may have went bad and I noticed I had to use A LOT more ph down to get to 5.8. I've read the acid from ph down used in excess can have some bad reactions with the Silica. The gellish substance was caked over the airstones and roots, some silica dried up on the pots and you could see the white silica crystals forming. I had to carefully clean the pots and roots (damaging soom) with my fingers, gently sliding the gel off.
So I did a fresh res change with new buckets and airstones. I dropped the Silica and added some hydroguard 2ml Per Gallon and peroxide 12% at 20ML per bucket. I was battling the gel everyday and it started to form brown sludge on the roots that I would take off with my fingers everyday and sometimes having to remove some roots that were too damaged.
