This is a new strain for this round that I’m really looking forward to — it’s forum gsc x banana butter cups x grape rock candy from square one genetics. It’s be a few weeks since I really started but this was the first full week that really felt like veg. Germinated one seed in papertowels, planted in a 1 gallon fabric pot with Fox farm ocean forest. This week I started doing a light dose of cal mag and big 6 micros. I’ve watered in recharge a few times since planting. I have 3-4 nodes and will probably top it once it gets a couple more that get established. It’s currently vegging with some tomatoes, lettuce, and sweet peas but will move into the tent that they’ll flower in within a week or two. There’s currently two plants in that tent finishing out that will be harvested on Wednesday, then I just need to get it cleaned out to move this plant and another The Spice plant into. Looking forward to this run, thanks for following along!
Week 2 was solid, double posting this week because I forgot to update last week. Started adding the ppd aminos and stuck with a bit of cal mag, big 6, and microbes once every week/week and a half. This plant is already showing the tighter node spacing than the The Spice plant it’ll be flowering with, hoping there’s not a huge disparity between the two as we move along.
So far so good, this plant is a bit slower off the line than the spice plant in the tent with it but it’s super healthy, the node spacing is just tighter. Stuck with the same supplemental nutrition, the aminos, big 6, cal mag, and recharge each once every week/week and a half spread out over different waterings. I topped her tonight since she has five nodes and I want her to bush out. We’re getting to the point where they typically start growing exponentially so I’m looking forward to the next couple of weeks.
Solid week of growth, she recovered from being topped and started branching out laterally. It’s in that awkward phase where it has a bunch of tops but the branches aren’t long enough to tie down so there’s not enough space for all of them. They alway grow out of it quick though. I usually uppot after they rebound from the first topping so I’ll do that this week, it needs it, the lower leaves are starting to fade. This plant is lagging behind just a bit but I’m hoping once it gets some new food and space for the roots it’ll really explode. Since it was looking hungry I did a feed with the aminos, otherwise it’s been the same routine: recharge once and micros once every 7-10 days, cal mag and the Q most other waterings.
Uppotted this girl into as 5 gallon pot and she’s starting to hit her stride. This plant is still lagging behind the other plant in the tent but I think that was expected given that it’s a cookies strain. Despite being a bit slower than the other plant this one is really looking healthy and uppotting seemed to really help. Nutrition has been the same, still doing the micros, aminos, and recharge once a week then cal mag and the Q most waterings. This plant is probably going to end up taking closer to a third of the tent since it’s lagging behind but that’s fine because I love the other strain in the tent that’ll compensate and take up a bit more of the space. Due to the height limit in the tent these plants will probably get flipped to 12-12 in the next week or two. Can’t wait to see the canopy fill out this week!
Last week of veg and this plant is doing great. It’s not going to have a ton of tops but I’m still happy with where we’re at. I’d love to let it veg another few weeks but this tent is so limited in vertical space and I don’t know for sure how much this strain is going to stretch. Nutrition has been the same as the past few weeks. I’ll probably top dress some build a bloom and switch over to the rootwise biophos microbes in place of the recharge a day or two before flipping to 12-12. This is where it starts to get fun!
Alright 7 days under 12-12 and this girl is doing alright. Stretch is starting to set in, but she’s still lagging behind the other plant in the tent, I’ll probably prop her up on a pot elevator to keep the canopy even. There are a bunch of tops though one of the main ones snapped the day before I had to flip so I taped it together and supported it with a bamboo cane and it seems to be doing alright, the canopy is fairly full and even, and the plants are pretty healthy. I’ve added in the rootwise biophos in place of the recharge, have dialed back the pure protein dry aminos a bit and added a bit of the build a bloom to the waterings, and I did a very light top dress with the build a flower. In about another week I’ll do a heavier top dress with the build a flower and start cutting out the pure protein fry to give the buildabloom at full strength. All in all this plant is doing alright. This is 3 grows straight where the plant on the left hasn’t been doing as well as the plant on the right. The side of my house that the wall the left side of the tent is on faces directly west so I’m starting to think that the hot afternoon sun beating down on that wall has been causing some heat stress on that plant. Could be completely off base there but that’s the only explanation I’ve been able to come up with that fits the trend. We’ll see though, looking forward to the coming week!
Day 15 of 12-12 and this girl is doing great. She has almost caught up to the other plant in the tent and seems like she might stretch a bit more. This plant is super healthy and is already putting out frost so I can’t wait to see her rip when she starts developing buds. I did a heavy top dress with the build a flower and followed it up with the biophos microbes to jumpstart the breakdown of the organic material in the top dress. I’m going to continue to supplement with the big bloom and build a bloom throughout so it has plenty of phosphorus and potassium. Just by the pre-flowers I can tell this plant is going to make small, dense buds, can’t wait to actually see them!
D21 of flower and plot twist, this is now the better looking of the two plants. She’s still a bit shorter but the leaves are a deep green and the buds are coming along nicely. She has a tiny bit of tip burn so I’ve eased back on the supplemental nutrition, still giving a bit of root available nutes but the top dress and medium are doing the heavy lifting. I’m starting to see some purple in the leaves so I think this plant is going to be beautiful once the buds develop more and the leaves start to fade. Can’t wait to see the buds start to plump up this week!
Day 28 of flower and this girl is really showing her colors. The leaves are turning a beautiful purple, the buds are starting to really take shape, and she smells great! I pinched one of the lower bud sites that wasn’t getting any light to remove it and it smelled exactly like grape candy, it was really fucking bizarre. The buds are also already bulking up and dense and putting out a ton of frost. I can tell this is going to turn out great.
Watering has been the same — this plant was showing some tip burn so I’ve cut back on the supplemental nutrition from the build a bloom and big bloom and have been letting the top dress do the heavy lifting. The other plant in the tent has been showing signs of hunger so I’m brewing up a compost tea tonight, this plant will probably only get a half dose though.
As far as troubles went this week — she did throw out a few bananas and I noticed a slight light leak. The plants on that side of the tent have consistently been more stressed than the one on the other side too so I’m trying to figure out why. That side of the house gets baked by the afternoon sun so my current theory is that it’s getting some heat stress. I noticed a small red LED last round that I thought caused it but that’s been covered up this whole round. I’ll keep an eye on it and figure out if I can find another trend that might be causing it. It was also getting super humid in the tent this week and now that the buds are putting on mass I decided to put the dehumidifier in the tent and that’s gotten it down to 50%.
All in all I’m happy with this plant. I’m never too stressed about a couple of bananas, as long as they don’t completely take over I’ll just pluck em and move on. Looking forward to seeing the buds build up some more mass this week!
Week five and we’re doing alright. The plant looks and smells beautiful and the buds are building up but she’s thrown a bunch of bananas, not so many that it’ll ruin the harvest but I won’t be surprised if I have some seeds. We’ll see how it goes, i can’t put another plant in until the other plant in the tent finishes so we’re just going to ride it out. The plant has turned a dark dark purple and the buds seriously smell like grape jolly ranchers. I’ve been keeping the supplemental feedings pretty light because there was some tip burn but that hasn’t progressed. This is the prime mass building time so this week should be fun!
Week 6 down and this plant is doing great. It’s progressing just like the glookies plant I grew a couple of rounds ago. Going off the pistils it looks like the tops are almost ready to harvest but if it’s anything like the glookies plant it’ll just keep adding mass to all the lowers for 3-4 more weeks. It’s the complete opposite of the spice plant in the tent with it which just in the last couple of days started to bulk up and show the traits I loved so much last round. The bananas seem to have stopped for the most part, not sure if there was something stressing it out in the tent or what, hoping I don’t end up with many seeds. Still smells just like grape candy, it’s super bizarre. Can’t wait to see how it progresses this week!
Week 7 down and this girl is ripening up and filling out the lowers. It’s losing fan leaves fast so I’m not sure if this plant is going to make it to 10 weeks but we’ll take her as far as she’ll go. Going to try to keep her going at least 9. The trichomes at the tops are looking good for week 7, mostly cloudy with a bit of clear, almost no amber on the buds so they still need a bit of time. I’ve been maintaining some supplemental feeding — alternating a bit of build a bloom and big bloom with cal mag on the days with big bloom. Just want to make sure it has everything if needs to build up the lowers. Autopilot from here to the end really.
Final stretch for this girl, Titan says she’s an 8-9 week finisher and I’m on day 58 so the harvest window is open. I checked the trichomes tonight and the top buds are ready to go, tiny bit of amber, mostly cloudy, with very little clear. Since the other plant isn’t going to be ready for another week or two I’m going to ride this one out a bit longer. I like the couch lock anyway and I’d like for their dry to overlap at least a bit so my house doesn’t reek of weed for a month straight. I’m down to straight water with no additives while the buds ripen up.
All in all I’m pretty happy with this plant, she threw a bunch of bananas so I’m not keeping the clone I took, just hoping there aren’t too many seeds. All 3 photoperiod grows and the auto grow before it now the plant on the left side of this tent has been stressed so it’s probably not genetics, I’m just not positive what’s causing it — there are no light leaks but that side of the house gets hammered by the hot afternoon sun, so it could be a microclimate issue from the radiant heat. It also has the carbon filter on that side so maybe there’s just too much air movement constantly. I’m really not sure. This makes 3/4 grows now of titan’s genetics that have hermed on me now though so they do seem more sensitive than the other strains I’ve grown — the bbc s1 threw a ton of full on pollen sacks, the first nana glue threw a couple of pollen sacks as well, and this one threw tons of bananas. The second nana glue didn’t herm but the buds weren’t anything to write home about. I’m not going to blame the breeder because plenty of people get great results from him but something about it just isn’t compatible with my techniques and environment so I’m going to take a break from his strains. Maybe if I ever get the 4x4 ready for a full cycle I’ll give it another shot in a more stable, uniform environment.
Despite all of that she’s definitely grapey with a cookies bud structure, which is exactly what I wanted so I’m hoping the girl up in the attic is similar without herming. You might get one more update before the final harvest post. As always thanks for following along, hopefully someone out there is getting something out of these.
I’ll come back for the smoke review, I haven’t tried a tester yet and I’m gonna let this one cure for a couple of weeks first. As of right now it has some grape and cookie terps, which tracks with the genetics. It still has a bit of that hay smell but it just went into jars a couple of days ago. Hoping after a week or so the grape starts to shine through, but honestly based on the current smell I think the cookie terps are going to win out.
Once again, very underwhelmed with Titan’s gear. I know the genetic potential is there, I’ve seen what other growers can get out of his strains but for me they’ve consistently been very temperamental plants that are quick to herm and the final product is frosty but not very dense. Since this girl started throwing bananas at week 3 I ended up with a few seeds which I’m sure contributed to the unimpressive yield and probably negatively impacted the potency. My environment isn’t perfectly dialed in and there’s still room to improve with timing the feeds and whatnot, but I haven’t had the same issues with other breeders. I have another glamorous grapes plant up in the attic that’s just as problematic, it threw a pollen sack and had some sort of nutrient issue that caused a lot of the fan leaves to develop spots and have led to them needing to be removed. When it comes down to it, I’ve grown out 5 plants bred by titan, 5/5 threw pollen sacks or bananas in early flower and 1 of them threw so many that it had to be chopped at week 3. 2/3 of the ones that have made it to harvest ended up with airy buds. And I don’t have much hope for the one in the attic given that it had the deficiency in mid flower. 1/5 coming out great isn’t a high enough success rate to justify the price of these beans imo. Anyway, thanks for following along with this grow.
I don’t have any plans to pop anymore of my sq1 seeds in the immediate future. The next round in the closet is going to be 2 purple ice water plants bred by bloom seed co. They’re regs and I’m hoping i get 2 females from the 4 I popped. it’s looking like 1 is definitely female, 1 is definitely male, and the other 2 are too early to call. I have a clone of the spice plant that was run this round that will take the second spot if the 3 PIW plants end up male. I may or may not track that grow on here in flower, we’ll have to see. After that I’m running the spice f2s that just showed up in the mail today and I’m stoked for that!
Hey 😊👋 wish you lots of luck with the lady! Wanna know your smoking experience! Looks like dense buds! It's always a suprise what she's going to do 🙏🎉🎂
Wanna like my cheese grow and follow me back and like my page, that would be super much appreciated!! I'll follow your page
