These pics are about two weeks from soaking. Maybe a bit less. We are running a new pheno hunt from seed, just trying to find some gems and see what each genetic has in it.

Week 4. Vegetation
Week 4 (more or less) and we transplanted from 4" to 2 gallon a few days ago. Staked and clipped most of the room. A WMB x Romulan pic slipped in there too. I may post a random shot of a few hunts we have going on in the room other than the main ones identified in the post. Still learning this interface so bear with me.

Week 5. Vegetation

Week 5 from seed. Phenohunt continues. We staked and clipped last week. Waiting a bit longer to take clones (normally we take 3 per plant to preserve that particular pheno while we finish the hunt), then a bit of time for recovery, then the flip. Leaf death at the bottom is likely due to one day that we let them dry out a bit too much.

Week 6. Vegetation

Week 6 (or so) from seed. You can see we've begun to underclear some of them. The primary reason was to take clones (3 from each plant) to preserve the genetic while we flower them. We did not want to take the tops off because we are looking for plants that grow really well without topping, as we are trying to move away from excess manipulation of the plants. Secondary reason was just to clean out some of the vegetation to let air flow a bit more freely. We will finish up the room this week and then flip it into flower. Last week we also culled some of the plants from each batch. We will continue to remove weaker plants as the hunt continues. One of our main gripes in a phenohunt is when we leave a crappy growing plant and let it finish...and it has crazy awesome flavours or smells...the kind of plant you never want to grow but love to smoke. It has to grow well, then we hunt the smells, flavours and effects.

Week 2 of flower. We've culled some of the weaker plants from each section. Removed the underneath foilage. Today's task is to remove fan leaves from the main stems and inside/out the plants (bring the taller plants to the outside and the shorter ones directly beneath the light). This helps even out the canopy over time. We also culled some males from the Ghani AF section (the only section grown from regular seed). Notably there are far less than 50% males but...sample size! Later this week we will do another round of culling. Anything with weird structure, abnormalities or weak growth will be eliminated. That should give us some room to space out the plants a bit better. Early days yet but there are some plants in here worth keeping an eye on. As we begin to reduce numbers, we will post some individual plant pictures of the most likely keepers from this round. And say a bit more about our process. Right now we remain in the stage of the hunt where our main focus is on how well the plant grows and whether it has a structure that we'd like to work with either from a production or a breeding standpoint. Next stage will be more about flower growth, size, look, smell and trichome coverage.

Week 3 of Flower. We've culled a few more plants, predominately those that were not growing well, were males or were showing signs of hermaphroditism. Starting to see some good flower development and a bit of frostiness on some of the phenos. As you can see the GF, WMB x Rom and GF x Rom have a few plants that are towering over the others and even growing past the lights. We will continue to cull plants as we go forward and will start putting flags into plants that we think are showing exceptional traits. One key thing when culling is to keep a list of the plant number that you killed and also to try to kill the clones of that number right away. Making recording errors at this stage is basically fatal to the entire process because if you don't have confidence in your records, you aren't going to have confidence that the pheno hunt winners are actually the ones you kept! We changed out the bulbs at the end of last week so I'm going to track down our filter also to try to post some better shots going forward.

Week 4 of Flower on this phenohunt. Still searching for the lens filter (sorry!) but as you can see from the individual shots, the frost is starting to build up. We continue to cull but have not made any major killings this week. Strains are: Grapefruit x Grapefruit (tall green pheno crossed with shorter purple pheno). Barbarella (Rene x Barb) Rene Ghani AF (Afghani #1) Here Comes the Barb (Wedding Cake x Barb) French Fire Barb (French Fire x Barb) Lavender Barb (Lavender OG x Barb) Grapefruit x Romulan Chemo x Romulan Where's My Bike x Romulan All of the Romulan crosses have show hermaphroditic tendencies. If we were making these crosses for seeds or to find breeding stock for future projects, we'd eliminate them all. This hunt is just for a production strain, so we are comfortable keeping the genetic alive despite these tendencies.

Week 5 of flower is upon us and I finally got the proper filter working. The Barbarella and René, as expected, are looking almost done. Interesting to see that a few phenos of the other strains seem like they will need extra time (these tend to share a conical shape with wispier buds and a more thin leaf structure). We've begun tagging our favourites and later this week I'll try to post individual shots of those. Smells are getting intense, lots of variety from super sweet to fruity to pine to dank rotting compost.

Week 6 of flower on these. You will see more yellow flags on the ones we like the best. Some are really starting to pop off. Some are weird. The joys of phenohunting continue!

Week 8 of flower. We've moved the Barbarella keepers to another table. Deleafing is ongoing, harvest is coming some time this week for about half the room. Final selections of the keepers being made. So far looks like zero René will make the cut, which is unfortunate but just means we pop a new set of beans sometime down the line.
