Good day, fellow growers, brothers and sisters, I wish you all juicy buds in boxing 0/
The previous crop just managed to go to fermentation in cans, and I'm already starting over.
This time I planned to raise a hybrid with a sativa bias, but in the process of reflection and heavy selection from the collection, I decided to cultivate an indica-dominant variety with a fairly active brain effect, judging by the reviews. The genetics of this strain is new to me in terms of experience, but by ear, I think everyone is familiar – OG Kush. In particular, it is interesting to evaluate the products of seed bank RP (DNA), the manufacturer of these seeds, I have read a lot of good reviews.
Grove's goals this time are to correct the omissions of the previous one (to correct the light mode and approach to training) and, as always, try to grow a maximum of 40x40.
The weather was quite hot for a few days, which, coupled with the heating running, reminded me again of the hot summer days. It's good that the previously brought humidifier does its job by lowering the temperature and increasing humidity. But by this evening the weather has deteriorated, perhaps the humidifier will soon become irrelevant again.
Now in the tent during the day, the temperature ranges from 26 to 28 ° C (depending on the day) and 50-65% humidity, which should be a buzz for a young plant.
Nevertheless, OG twists the leaves, showing, in my opinion, a capricious "mood". At the same time, the rate of plant development remains quite high, so I will slowly find out the reason for this behavior of the leaves.
At the moment, Far Red works in 18/6 mode for the first two weeks of plant growth.
From the third week until the end of the cycle, the regime will change for half an hour in the morning and evening
On the 14th day, I changed the Far Red mode - now the total lighting time is one hour per day.
On day 15, I was still experimenting with the causes of the plant's discontent and, for the sake of interest, brought the lamp power to 100%. Even before the end of daylight, OG lowered the upper leaves in response - there is still too much light.
Today, a strategic decision was made to start LST, since OG has clearly outgrown the edge of the pot.
Rubber bands and jute, and by the already familiar sadistic methods, the plant spread out horizontally across the pot. Since the coconut was very well dried over the past 3 days (it felt like it had lost 60% of its weight), the LST passed without problems.
With regard to the transfer of lighting to 12/12, I plan a month of vegetation, judging by the growth of the lady, this is quite enough.
In general, I am glad that OG has finally come out of a tender age, and a movement has started in the tent.
I have been actively training the plant for the last week - LST and defoliation.
The last defoliation was quite tough, I usually do this on the day of switching the light on 12/12. But this time it is already clear that there is no point in slowing down the stretching of the plant at the pre-flowering. Therefore, I changed tactics and will give OG a couple of days to rest after defoliation and only then will I transfer the plant to flowering
These were the last 3 days of the growing season.
Initially, I planned to transfer it to 11/13 already on 31 days (that is, 31 days would be the first day of the pre-flowering). But I forgot to change the light and the first day of the pre-flowering was transferred to the day - now I will count the flowering from day 32.
The first week of the pre-flowering passed quite calmly with minimal actions on my part. I made several branches HST to equalize in growth with the rest of the mass of greenery.
The light mode was changed to 11 hours of constant light, 30 minutes of irradiation with far red (at the beginning and end of the day) and 12.5 hours of darkness. The same 11/13 comes out, but adjusted for "sunrises/sunsets" FR.
The second (and last) hard defoliation was carried out, then I will correct only individual strokes.
I can't wait for the beginning of the full-fledged formation of buds, I really want to see. Since already now the leaves are covered with a frosty layer of trichomes with a wonderful smell of fresh fruit and a small bitterness of black tea.
Trichomes and the individual smell of strain began to appear. At the moment, it smells fruity freshness.
Two more 15-watt diode boosters were added (samsung 3500K +660 nm), the total light power in the tent reached 180 watts without taking into account the FR channel.
Flowering continues. Trichomes are already visible in all their glory, while transparent.
LED lines are working and seem to be doing their job - the lower buds are also actively releasing stigmas.
Another week without problems.
I really like the experience of growing OG #18 - no sudden jumps in appetite, everyday is like the previous one.
I am changing stimulants from Big Bud to Overdrive because I want to carry out a harvest immediately after the onset of 2023.
To my surprise, a sativa phenotype of the OG # 18 fell into my hands, the flowering of which will obviously be longer than the passport period. Well, we'll see.
As expected, although the inflorescences look tempting, the number of white stigmas hints that the end of flowering has remained longer than I expected. In response, I extend the Overdrive for another week and shift the harvest accordingly. I definitely like the LED Line effect.
The second half of the flowering is just a sample of stability, there is nothing to complain about (and I love that) - the plant eats and drinks steadily, there are small jumps in drainage indicators, but the formula "only 2" does not change, as does the volume for watering. There is not much more to say about feeding, except that now I will definitely add Overdrive to watering for another week.
At the same time, the issue of maturation remains interesting precisely from the passport terms, because today OG has overcome the barrier of 2 months since the lighting change to 11/13 (flowering) and in 3 days it will overcome the passport 9 weeks of maturation.
Visually, everything looks great - the buds are getting bigger and bigger, there is a smell with bitterness at the tops, with fruity notes at the bottom, brown stigmas keep climbing and climbing, and it's already good to dilute the white background. By the way, LED Line pleases me more and more, and even the lowest buds cannot be called popcorn. This week I felt them - they are as dense as buds in the middle of a bush, only smaller in size. At the very bottom, where degenerative shoots have grown, some kind of conglomerate of buds has formed, I hope it will not get moldy, otherwise I can't see it with my camera or my eyes, only by touch. On the other hand, the microclimate and the shape of the bush should prevent the appearance and development of mold.
Unfortunately, OG showed "bananas" (:D). Still, the stress from the light did not pass without a trace and OG she showed male bags with pollen on the buds.
Of course, at this time it is no longer scary, since it takes about 40 days for the seeds to develop, and I have a harvest soon. Nevertheless, the matter needs to be brought to an end:
1. "bananas" were removed every day with tweezers;
2. reduced the power of the upper lamp by 20-25%.
In order not to return to this topic, I will write immediately. This had its effect - the growth of pollen bags fell to a minimum and the tweezers were not needed for the last week.
From the middle of the week, I stopped feeding all nutrients and left only Flawless Finish in watering. In my opinion, the size of the buds has already reached its optimum and it remains only to wait for the maturation of the trichomes (I like when the trichomes are cloudy + a little amber). Also, there has not been a long flushing for a couple of cycles, I really want to fix this moment.
So the next diary is coming to an end, there are only a few days left before the harvest.
In terms of nutrition, I switched to Flawless Finish. I have not given the plant a good flushing for a long time, a couple of cycles were 4-5 days, Sensi Star because of mold and did not wash it, but immediately cut it down. With OG, due to a longer flowering (than expected), 8 days of washing are planned, of which half can be said to have already passed.
Judging by the plant, autumn is coming, chlorophyll begins to disintegrate without food, at least such a long washing gives a softer taste for the first samples, while the bud has not yet had time to start fermenting (because it is chlorophyll that gives the initial bitterness and the smell of hay).
The aesthetics were somewhat spoiled by fox tails ("horns" on the tops of the tallest buds), but for me the main quality of the final product in terms of consumption. Well, aesthetics will do for a crown, the "crown" of the juiciest bud.
Although the buds all look juicy, the trichomes are still ripening - the harvest is planned for January 7-8. With regard to the maturity and density of buds, there is an interesting point. LED Line definitely work. There is no popcorn as such - there are buds of different size and ripeness, but they are all dense.
With regard to the methods of "intimidating" the plant before harvest, I will refuse, because in my opinion, nothing scares the plant more than the face of grower, who is hungry for cones, and by the way, he "sees" it every evening. Well, and judging by the "bananas", my OG has already received more stress than it should, it's better not to touch it. By the way, a 20-25% reduction in UHE power had a positive effect - bananas were getting smaller and smaller every day, I haven't pulled for the last couple of days. Of course they are, but they are growing more slowly and not so massively.
Yes, in general, I am already looking forward to this beauty after a good drying and fermentation of tk this time we can already say that I have approached my ideal for indica by trichomes - milk and a little amber for a sedative effect.
I want to wish everyone already in this (2023) year the happiness of the growers (resin harvest by cans, cones white from trichomes like cotton wool and dense as lead! And also Peace to you and your families, everyone has something dear, I wish you never to lose it!
A very stable plant with characteristic indica behavior. I have it well tolerated LST and defoliation.
The effect is not quite like that of classical indica, a note of sativa gives euphoria, creativity and curiosity, indica relaxes the body and soul. I think on the official DNA website there is such a line in the description of the strain "This is Video Game herb!" very aptly reveals the wonderful effect of this plant. With careless use - appetite and sleep.
The inflorescences themselves are precious hard stones with a large number of trichomes.
Woe, I'm so gd new lol. Crazy to see that heavy of a defoliation .. I'm definitely gonna follow. I have a og going (Holy grail kush) wish I'd have known more N topped my girls. But did minimal since it's the first. This Is impressive tho.
I'm guessing this Is something that you've done before , it hasn't stressed them out to much or anything? Best of luck looking forward to updates!!!
@Grow4Releaf, Thanks! With regard to the issue, I use only the Xiaomi Note 10 Pro + Google Cam ready config (corrects colors well, removes smudges and gives a little more zoom when using macro mode).
I wrote a very large answer, which unfortunately was not preserved and I "burned out" a little :D
Therefore, I will briefly repeat.
Yes, the best of the separately purchased options is a USB camera. With regard to the maturation of trichomes, it depends more on the strain. In practice, I once came across a "buggy" plant that did not even think of changing the color of the trichomes from cloudy to amber, and eventually overripe without changing the color. Therefore, I advise you to focus on passport deadlines, stigmas (most of them should turn brown) and trichomes in the complex. And the best thing is to cut off a small bud, gently dry it and smoke. This time I did it myself when I was celebrating the New Year.
You can write about anything - about nature, about the weather or about Mother Nature. It will always be interesting for me to read, I just don't always answer right away.
@smalinet, looking amazing.. I do hav a question for you.
The close up photos u took. Are u using a USB micro ? Or just ur phone and zoom? Crispy photos is the reason I'm curious. Very clear pics, I'm getting nervous lol. Two of my three look close but I can't get a good clear look at the trics.
Hairs started to turn and their cloudy to the eye , havnt noticed any turn amber yet so just giving them phed 6.0 water from here out. Might be a week or so . Eh I'm sry started rambling. Best of luck finished her out !!! 🍀🤞🏻🍀🤞🏻🍀🤞🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@Grow4Releaf, Welcome 0/
With regard to defoliation and other training that I practice, I just want to say the following purely personal opinion. It all depends very much on grower's individual conditions. If there is a lot of space, I don't see the point of loading the plant with extra stress. I have a narrow and high grow tent, so the upper lamp did not have enough power to the very bottom before the appearance of additional side lighting, now I plan to do a little more aggressive defoliation. Nevertheless, at the stage of blooming, this serves, among other things, as a good way to slow down the stretching of the plant in height (the plant stops growing upwards, grows leaves, and then follows the flowering stage without active stretching).
Thank you for your kind words, I wish you buds in the whole tent.
With regard to the diary - I really haven't kept it for a long time, I will update it in the near future. In fact, OG is already on the direct path to harvest, and there is something to see
You're looking like you need some nutes in there. The red in the nodes and main stem are showing signs of pk issues. Just my two cents but either way, I hope she turns out well 🍻
@smalinet,
Agreed and the beauty of coco, imo, is how quickly and accurately they let you know what they need and how quickly you can remedy a problem. Sounds like you have a good plan ahead of you! 👊
@Ze1ro, Thanks for the advice, on the contrary, I really appreciate the opinion of other growers 🤝
With regard to the red stripes, I also thought about problems with Р, but at the moment, if this can be, it is clearly not in such an aggressive form. Most likely, this is a reaction to an overabundance of light from the lamp. Sometimes LED lighting with its excess gives such a purple color.
At the moment, I have already started feeding, now I will figure out what she needs in terms of nutrients, if there is a shortage, I will eliminate it in the near future👌
@420DeepGrow, Thx bro 🤝
In fact, the track can already be called finished, since at the moment I plan to update my diary and carry out a harvest in a few hours.
The stocks of Sensi Star are already coming to an end, and in my opinion, if we take all the visual signs of maturity (trichomes, stigmas, the appearance of buds) of OG in the complex, it is quite ready for harvest.
Fortunately, I almost managed to catch up with the current dates of the diary and in a few minutes I will update it to the most current dates.
