I've been struggling the past 5 weeks with my clone game. For this round I had 7 out of the initial 8 cuttings die shortly after transplanting to soil. I took 6 more and those look like they'll survive. In the meantime I decided to invest in a DWC cloner and try something new. The cuttings in the cloner are a week old and have yet to show roots. I'm really excited to grow this strain out since I've seen how the mothers are starting to flower.
I've had some ups and downs with this grow. I decided to stop the oxycloner for now. The leaves were turning yellow and when I looked below I didn't see any root development. I think the fish tank heater I bought wasn't calibrated correctly. Felt really warm one day and I looked underneath. The stalks were swelling but no root development at all. I'm going to sterilize the whole unit and try again at a different time. On a positive note the plant I butchered with a miss-top has recovered and looks to be promising. Got a week or two before I have to transplant into a new container.
My apologies for the late update. I had to go out of town last week. I started to transplant the night before I left but ran out of potting soil. I picked up more from the airport on my way back. I'll be moving these over into the small 2 x 4 tent and placing them under the fluorescents. I will be transplanting the remainder today which will be in next week's update. Everything was overfed the morning I left so they would stay moist upon my return 4 days later.
Transplanted from solo cups to .5 gallon pots earlier this week. Also moved them into the 2 x 4 tent under the fluorescents. I gave them a few days to recover before topping. I placed the light up higher to try and stretch them out a little bit before the next transplant. Other than that I'll rotate the plants daily and be doing some light defoliation as needed.
Everything is growing nicely. I donated a plant to a friend's garden since I'll only have room to bloom 5 of these. I raised the lights to encourage some stretch and I'll top them sometime next week.
The veg tent is cruising along nicely. I'm waiting for another node or two to top them again. Everything is green and healthy. Most of the fan leaves are praying towards the lights!
Topped the plants early in the week. Watered them a few times Towards the end of the week they recovered from the topping nicely. Think I'm going to have to stop at the hydro store tomorrow to grab some slightly bigger pots. They're getting close to being root bound but aren't tall enough to flower yet.
The plants grew around 4 inches taller this week. I transplanted them up to their final 5 gallon pots. I'm hoping they can grow a little taller this coming week while the root zone develops in the new pots. I have the space in a flowering tent and would like to get them in there asap. I'm shooting to wrap up this grow and my lemon skunk clone grow by December. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I should flower these girls before they are tall enough and accept a smaller yield. I plan to run some autos in the winter months. I'd like to do two runs back to back and will need 16-24 weeks to wrap the autos up before next summer.
I'm using one of my flowering tents as a place to dry so the carbon air filter gets rid of the smell. It should be available in the next 4-5 days and we'll move these girls in there; they'll be ready to flower.
I decided it was time to pull out the 1st round of lemon skunk which had been drying for 14 days. The Amnesia Haze was on day 7 of drying. I swapped the Haze with the Great Whites from the veg tent to the flower tent on day 70 of veg. Also moved the Great White out of the lemon skunk bloom tent to keep all of the same strains together. That one is on day 13 of bloom. Six more weeks for that one and 8 for the other five plants.
I'm going to use Primordial Solutions as a base for this run. I'll use the bloom boosters and some other nutes from Advanced Nutrients. I've got 5 plants on this feeding regiment. The extra in the tent is 2 weeks ahead of these girls and is being fed the same as my Lemon Skunk clones. I'll be judging Oregon's Only based on the results of these 2 tests between 2 different strains.
Plants are stretching. They should slow down during the next week now that we have flowers. I will have to defoliate/lollipop them tomorrow. Started to add Big Bud with the nutes this week.
Adjusted nutes for week 3. All of the plants look healthy. At this point they should be done stretching. Pistils are growing like crazy. I'm hoping for medium sized harvest on this run.
I'm starting to see some weight packing on this week. It appears that all of the plants have stopped stretching as well. It's been cool and dry around here so I've only had to water this round about every 6-7 days.
Nugs are filing in nicely. Still growing lots of pistils and frost is starting to show on the sugar leaves. I replaced Big Bud with Overdrive this week. Got another week of feeding before flush. Should be harvesting the 2nd week of December.
Removed Rootamentary from the feeding schedule while increasing PaleoBloom per the feed schedule. Finishing up 6 weeks of flowering. I have half a week left for feeding nutes and then we're on to flushing. Flowers are packing on weight and frost.
All photos were taken today, day 63. Started the first full week of flushing looking good. At the end of the week I found myself unsatisfied on the degree of fade and I may end up growing them out more than 70 days. I'll take a look at the trichomes at the end of the next week before I make the final call.
All of the plants are starting to exhibit a nice fade this week. They gained a little bit more mass and are staying nice and frosty. I'm going to let them go one extra week this run to see if it changes the effects any. All photos were taken today and it is day 70 of flower.
I had a lot of problems to overcome this round. I lost 7 out of 8 of my first clones. 2 of them rotted in the humidity dome and the other 5 died shortly after transplant into solo cups. This set the grow back by 2 weeks. I had just flipped the mother plants to 12/12 so I quickly grabbed 6 more cuttings. At this point I was nervous so I purchased an oxy cloner and took more clones from the mother plants after they'd been flowering for 2 weeks. This time I eased the new clones from the humidity dome into their new environment and they all survived. I donated one to a friend. All of the clones in the oxy cloner died. I later found out that the water was too warm so I'll try it again eventually.
One of the things I like to focus on is productivity and a faster turn around on grows. I was 2 weeks behind and didn't want to delay the start of my next grow so I deliberately stretched these under the T5's. I think I only topped them once or twice during veg and I remember worrying that my yield was going to suck this round due to the lack of tops and the plant structure. To compensate for this I used strategic defoliating and didn't lollipop the lower branches off when I flipped to 12/12. Ironically this harvest was almost a quarter pound more than my sister grow of Lemon Skunk. This whole run took about 3 weeks longer than I expected yet I'm very pleased with how it turned out.
