Reset in the tent complete and into day 1 of veg for these rooted Bruce Banner Fast Fem cuttings from @CanukSeeds. Family Portrait with Bruce (the mom) bonsai'd and cropped for longterm storage.
Hope your weeks are going swimmingly, ahem... I mean well...i mean better than mine was, thats all...
So here's the story: Last Wednesday night, I setup the res and got everything ready to go on autopilot for a couple days while we went on our camping trip. Smoked a bowl and went to bed happy with all the stuff I achieved (heck, I even primed the lines with the tap at the end, making sure there was good flow through the tiny 6mm lines).
So like I said, I smoked that bowl, and then it was late so I went to bed. Got up Thursday morning and my monitor app is reporting 75% humidity - but there's no humidifier in there....uhhhhohhhhh
So I open the tent to find the ENTIRE contents of the res in the tent, on the floor.🤦 Luckily I'd only put in 5gallons (about half full) - but I learned one critical thing: 5 gallons over a 4x4 space is a little less than 1/2" deep - maybe 3/8" I guess... anyway, it was a scene, the tray in the bottom of the tent is about 3" deep, and was there, so double-edged lesson learned - always KEEP the tray in the bottom of the tent, it really will save you headaches. I mopped everything up, added it to the veggie garden outside (not going to waste all that yummy plant food), mixed up a new batch, checked all the connections and left for camping - which was a great time!
So buds, there are two biggies here to learn:
1) always check *all* of the valves before leaving the grow space
2) The floor tray in your tent is meant to be there. If you're not using it, YOU SHOULD BE, really, put it in there. It will save you headaches, stress, and damage. Always keep it in there! (Also big thanks to marshydro for their tent's floor tray *actually* being 100% waterproof.)
So, now that we're back these girls are showing their happiness with the autopots (Swipe right to see them on our return, I'll be back to more regular updates soon [and maybe some info on the 4x4 scrog screen that's going in here too 😁
Bruce's Babies are cruising along now at day 21 of veg. We're going to keep on tuckin into the screen this week, while continuing to defoliate a bit more so there's room for this proposed 200% stretch. The flip is coming soon, either this weekend or early next week / on the next res change.
On that res topic, we haven't had any more (ahem) floods, and the girls are drinking about a gallon a day at 750ppm. I wasn't really expecting to have to top up midweek, but here we are - and I'm not actually complaining, just surprised.
Things are getting exciting! Every morning new tops are poking through the screen, and the mains are getting thick and really strong. It will definitely be a challenge to keep the stretch under control in the coming weeks!
Temps have been a bit of a challenge, the tent is holding about 10*F above the room/ambient with the driver mounted outside (near the exhaust port) and the x465wPro is running at 75%. Light is at 19" above the screen, and the exhaust fan is blasting at 100% with all lower screen vents open. I'm not really sure what else to do here other than to put a booster fan on one of the 6" intakes, but I'm wide open to ideas...
We're now into the last week of veg for Bruce's Babies, so I did a big strip before the flip (tonight/tomorrow), and a whole lot of tucking today. Scroll for the before / after. It looks pretty severe but by the end of the week you'll never know they were bare!
I'm clearly going to have some tucking and training ahead of me again this week...For anyone who wonders if heavy defoliation is detrimental - last week these plants were almost totally stripped and were ALL pulled back under the screen - and I'd said that you'd never know they were bare. Well, here we are a week later and we're pretty much doing the same thing again!
I'm blindly hoping to avoid tucking much more. The screen is full and the girls are powerlifting it off the floor - we'll have to get some weights on to keep the canopy level, but what do we really expect from Bruce Banner?? I've also got my fingers crossed that we can manage the rest of the stretch with defoliation, though that's probably unlikely and we'll be working a very full scrog and tent for the next few weeks (based on some diaries it's about 4 weeks of stretch before they settle into a solid budset - I wish I had read that before vegging the screen to 80% capacity!
Another week of life and another weekend lawn mowing! I mean, gentle trim, I mean.. Well.. It's week 2 of flower, and we had lots of filling in of the screen that's already full, so we'll be stripping a LOT and doing 'some pinching' to manage stretch and pick just which tops get to finish. Defoliation is critical to also manage airflow, ensuring that morning dew isn't resting between leaves and giving opportunity for mildews.
Tops are 3-9" above the screen I'd be happy if they chilled here, but they really aren't slowing down! Light is at full power, 18" from the canopy running 11/13. Res is filled to the brim and we're going away for a couple days - I anticipate a MAJOR strip again when we get back (and that'll be the last one except for maintenance through flower).
Day 21 in the flower tent and I think the stretch is now complete. The girls are 12" tall above the screen and I'll probably put up a 2nd layer of trellis just to be safe. Will definitely only run 4 of these next time, or maybe 2 with the same veg time to keep the canopy lower, but I don't think the Photontek x465wPro will have any trouble penetrating down into this!
Also time for another big strip! These girls just keep putting out the fans, so we'll just keep stripping them off, keeping tabs on airflow and budsites. We're still not setting bud yet - seriously, four full weeks of stretch so far here...
These weeks just keep flying by! It's the end of week 4 (day 30) since flip tomorrow and the reservoir was EMPTY when I checked it! Not totally empty, and not unexpected - it's time for the midweekgrind!
Also, the stretch is done. The tops are 12-18" above the screen (can I still call it a scrog ?), and if I strip them we'll for sure need a trellis layer (as they fatten up they probably will anyway), but as it stands, we've got a tent full of pompoms on pencils waiting to fatten up nicely. They only have the top 2 sets of fans, so the big question of the day: should we defoliate again? hrmmmm
It's day 36 since flip and the girls were getting a little too moist 💦 at night so we solved it the best possible way - some tender loving care aka ✂️✂️ aka time to get nekked again!! Nobody likes to sleep in 70% humidity!
Annnnd with that done, the girls are very happy to show off thier nekkedness 😍😍😍 😱
Don't worry, they're only plants, right?
SMILE it's Wednesday! Day 43 for Bruce's Babies and they're continuing to stack nicely, but they could use some density and weight which will definitely be coming. Haven't put a 2nd level on, and we'll roll the dice in hopes that they don't need it a couple weeks from now! 😂
These girls are drinking about 3/4 gallon a day each from the rez. We'll switch over from BigBud to Overdrive on the next rez change, hold that for a week, maybe two and then on to our flush for two weeks and then harvest! I expect these girls to plump right up as they ripen and fill with sugary resin - 4 weeks to chop!
Things are getting sweet and juicy under the Photontek x465wPro in here! Time for some budshots
These girls are consistently pulling about 3/4gal a day each from the Autopots and it really couldn't be easier at this point. We switched from BigBud to Overdrive on the last refill and we're cruising into week 7 since flip to flower. As a heavy feeder (heavier than I'm used to anyway), these cuts just barely reached about 1400ppm before the tips got a little hot. We backed off to about 1250 and have held steady with great results so far. As we approach the end of the crop, I'm upping the enzymes and lowering the feeds, allowing the girls to eat up some of what's hanging around in the medium.
Day 60 from flip for these girls and they're SO sticky and gooey it's kindof ridiculous. The camera just isn't doing it justice, and they're in bed now so no flash photos. The sweetness has really started to develop, and less vomit smell is most welcome - gassy strawberry apparently takes a while to get right, even with a fast strain.
