I had a hard time getting the Kosher Kush seeds to break the soil surface and survive. After I started the last seed, I decided to try Kush 'n' Cookies again and it germinated and sprouted right away. I'm using the KnC for dates instead of the Kosher Kush to keep things simple.
The plants are finally taking off. I've transplanted them into the 5 gallon fabric pots and they're much happier. I'm also slowly adding another hour of the Fohse Aries light every day or so. I got my new Ac Infinity oscillating fan. I hope it works better and for longer than the Vivosuns did.
This week I want to get the plants used to the Aries light so I can take down the blurple seedling light. I'm also getting them used to normal nutrient levels and I hope to get the Blumats cleaned and installed this week or this weekend.
The plants have fully rebounded from the topping and I am progressing with Low Stress Training. I will eventually put up a ScrOG net when I flipped these ladies into flower mode. So far, so good!
These ladies are really starting to branch out. I have started to increase the light levels. I have had a habit in the past of keeping the light levels low to prevent stressing the plants, but I think that worked against me in terms of final yield. This time I'm trying to get near an ideal level for Veg so when I flip to Flower I can get the intensity up right away without fear of burning the plants.
I finally got my watering system fully cleaned and put back together. I use Blumats to automatically water the plants. This way they water themselves on-demand all day and night as necessary for optimal soil conditions. I fill the 5-gallon bucket about every 4 days depending on how thirsty the ladies are. I have a small fountain pump that moves the nutrient water in a constant loop to prevent the nutrients from settling in the tube and causing clogs. I used this on my last grow cycle, and it worked wonderfully.
Unfortunately, I was a bit worn out from being sick this week and the ladies really grew while I was too tired to prepare them for flower mode. On the last day of this week, I was feeling better and decided it's time to flip the tent into flower mode. I have filled the nutrient reservoir with a transition blend of Veg and Flower nutrients. I have switched the lights from Spring to Summer to get some more red light in the mix, and in the next week I plant to install a ScrOG net at about 42" from the light with the goal of keep the final canopy at about 36" from the light, which is the recommended distance published by FOHSE for their Aries light to cover a 4'x4' area. I also started increasing the brightness. I want to be around 600 PPFD by the end of next week if the plants can handle the increase. That should setup everything really nice for maybe finishing around 1100 PPFD in 8-12 weeks.
I accidentally forgot to water the plants one day. Fortunately, they bounced back quickly. This was my kick in the butt to finish cleaning the fertigation tubing and get the automatic watering system up and running.
The colas are all arranged in a pretty well, I would have liked to have more of the middle of the canopy covered with more big colas, I can see a lot of light getting down deep in the canopy. I know this light great canopy penetration and all of that light is going to produce plenty of lower buds, not just popcorn. So overall I'm happy with how this is going. I just changed the light spectrum to Autumn to encourage strictly bud production. I'll probably increase the light intensity again this week as well. I would really like to get a crop to 100% light and see what happens. Stay tuned.
After so many issues with the Blumat system getting clogs, free-flowing drippers that empty the entire reservoir, and my own lack of attention to details, I think both me and the plants are looking forward to this run being complete. I'm starting to see red trichomes on the Kush n Cookies, and maybe a few on the Kosher Kush. I'm really hoping both will get amber trichomes around the same time so I can dry in this tent. Otherwise, drying just the K'n'C in a different tent or container will be a challenge.
I'm seeing enough amber trichomes on the K'n'C now, I'll be chopping it down this weekend. The Kosher Kush probably needs another week, maybe 2. So I'll be setting up a second tent for drying.
