Dropped 2x seeds (previously stored in the fridge for 6 months) into a shot glass of RO water and left in a cool dark cupboard for 2 days. After 2 days, both seeds had sunken to the bottom and split open revealing their tap roots. The seeds were removed, and placed into rockwool cubes that had also been soaking in RO water for 2 days. Each cube was put into a tall drinking glass and left in an indoor location to receive indirect natural light for around a week.
These seedlings sprouted and grew roots super fast compared to previous grows. I think it may be due to the drinking glass holding humidity and using zero nutrients or seed starter additives. As the days are a little short and cool, it was time to relocate these plants to a small laundry, under a basic hardware store light globe, for longer light hours and extra warmth.
The seedlings in their rockwool cubes were planted into high quality soil in clear (to monitor root development) 140mm pots. The seed raising soil was first sterilised with boiling water and cooled then Mykos root enhancer was added. The clear pots were then placed into a black pot to keep light from getting to the roots. Each plant was then placed into larger white pot to reflect light and heat, with a clear dome placed over them to maintain humidity. The lamp used was a cheap 1400 lumen warm white LED spotlight from the local hardware, set to 16-8. No watering was done for many days as the soil was saturated from the sterilisation.
This week the plants were moved into a small 60x60x90cm tent with an Advwin 150w LED grow light set to Seedling setting at 50% intensity. Watering was kept to a minimum and no fertiliser was added.
The LED light function was switched to veg mode changing the spectrum and giving a slight increase to the light intensity. The plants were also watered with RO water and Emerald Harvest Cali Pro Grow part A and B, and Emerald Harvest Cal-Mag, all at half strength for early veg.
The plant's roots finally reached the bottom of their pots so they were put into a storage container partially filled with a hydroponic nutrient solution. This solution was made up of RO water, Emerald Harvest Cali Pro A and B and Cal-Mag. All nutrients mixed at full strength for early veg and PH to 5.8. Both plants were also topped for the second time.
The plants were heavily defoliated, removing all large leaves to increase light penetration through the entire plant. A scrog net was also installed and over several days, the plant was trained to create an even canopy with lots of potential bud sites. More info to come soon.
