Growing Black Apple Hitchcock in an IKEA SMÅGÖRA Children's Wardrobe with the Tomato Machine Companies automated grow system, except it's not THAT automated as I went hydro not soil, so I miss out on the whole automated watering but I like hydro! And I can still control all the lights/exhaust/fans/timing from my computer/phone. The amount of nutrients will be in ml/gal, with 2.5/3/3.5 gals of water in the bucket, I'll hopefully denote what amount I use in the comments.

Getting spotting and burnt tips on the leaves, no idea why. The nutrient amount was 2ml/gal of Micro and Grow with 1ml/gal of RapidStart during the week before. Changed water on Nov 13th, FIM'd Nov 12th but it looks like I may have just topped it. Nov 14th - pH 6.1 -> 5.8 - PPM 480, 1.0 EC - Temp 75f, Humidity 50% Nov 15th - pH 5.6 (?) - PPM 460, 0.9 EC - Temp 71f, Humidity 65% Nov 16th - pH 5.8 - PPM 450, 0.9 EC - Temp 75f, Humidity 60% Nov 17th - pH 5.7 - PPM 440, 0.9 EC - Temp 75, Humidity 60% Nov 18th - pH 5.9 - PPM 430, 0.9 EC - Temp 80f, Humidity 60% Nov 19th - pH 6.0 - PPM 500, 1.0 EC - Temp 65, Humidity 70% - Added CalMag on the evening of the 18th Nov 20th - pH 6.0 - PPM 490, 1.0 EC - Temp 75, Humidity 50%

Any ideas on what could be causing the issues on my leaves where there is spotting and burnt tips? I've been watching the pH and keeping it within what I was told is vegging, but the issue still seems to be happening. Do my roots look okay? Really at a loss at what it could be.

Ok. Hmmm... I think you're feeding her too much and don't have a good ratio between the 3 nutes (Grow, Micro, Bloom) ... I don't know how you are calculating your EC - my equation is this: (ppm/1000)*2 ... but using General Hydoponics Flora Series myself in DWC, at seedling stage you wanted to be giving them 1/4 tsp of each (my bucket contains 3.5 gallons of water but I do NOT multiply the dosage on the bottles by 3.5 - so it really ends up being 1/4tsp per 3.5 gallons!). In veg state, I give my ladies 1 tsp each of Grow, Micro and Bloom... I'm not sure what you're reporting in your diary is actually "per gallon" or whether you've tried to figure out what to report that accurately describes dosage per gallon (if you understand my meaning here... I mean, for heaven's sake, growing in DWC, accurate reporting of nutes used would be weird... like my dosage of 1/4 each would really be 0.25/3.5 which gives you an insanely small number)... Anway, you should be evening out those dosages so the three components are being given in equal amounts... That's the best for DWC in veg... As for EC, if you calculate it the way I do, in Week 2, the EC should be between 0.4 and 0.6... Week 3 should be between 0.6 and 0.8, Week4 between 0.8 and 1.0, Week 5 is 1.0-1.2, Week 6 and thereafter is 1.2... There's always some wiggle room - if your plants need a higher or lower EC and they're telling you that (the way yours is now), then listen to them... But right now, they're getting too much of the Grow and not enough of the Micro and the Bloom. When they get into bloom, you'll want to cut back on the Grow so that the ratio is 1 Grow, 2 Micro and 3 Bloom... and if you need to get the EC up, I always add more Micro and Bloom and leave out the Grow... Your pH is spot on so that's good... and your roots look magnificent! I'd start cutting back the Rapid Start or cutting it out altogether... believe me, grown well, the roots will soon start taking on the shape of the bucket and you'll be wondering if there's actually enough room in it for any water!! (mine has - and I only gave that plant 1 tsp of Rapid Start in Week 1)... Good luck.... what's so nice about DWC is that you can literally make changes instantaneously as soon as you see a problem crop up.... My recommendation to you is to do a bucket change - clean out your bucket with some H2O2, get fresh water in there, 1 tsp each of Grow, Micro and Bloom and adjust the pH ... she'll be a very happy camper!

New week! The tops and main plant are finally starting to grow after all the stress I put them through! The water was changed on Nov 21st Rusted/Brown spots just like the week before and in my grow question have reappeared. I am being led to believe it has something to do with the VPD of my cabinet and I hope to fix it soon. Nov 21st night - said fuck it, let's mainline this girl since it's at the perfect time to do it. Gotta maximize the yield in this small Ikea cabinet! Can you tell I have no idea what I'm doing? Lol, first LST clips then topping, just to say fuck it and mainline! Nov 21st - pH 5.9 - PPM 620, 1.2 EC - Temp 75f, Humidity 55% Nov 22nd - pH 6.2 -> 5.8 - PPM 680, 1.4 EC - Temp 80f, Humidity 80% (Need to get this VPD under control!!) Nov 23rd - pH 6.0, PPM 680, 1.4 EC - Temp 75f, Humidity 65% - Starting to notice a weak smell if the cabinet is open and you're trying to smell cannabis, or if you directly smell the plant. Nov 24th - pH 6.0, PPM 680, 1.4 EC - Temp 85f, Humidity 55% Nov 25th - pH 6.0, PPM 680, 1.4 EC - Temp 85f, Humidity 55% Nov 26th - pH 5.8, PPM 660, 1.3 EC - Temp 75f, Humidity 75% - Split the main stalk in half while attempting to move the soft tie wire that was holding the branches down just a bit further. Taped it back up and used soft ties to hold it together, hoping she pulls through! I'm so dumb... 😭 Nov 27th - pH 5.8, PPM 630, 1.3 EC - Temp 80f, Humidity 70% - Plant seems to be doing fine with the patched stalk, getting spots again on the leaves. The timer hasn't been working on the humidifier so it's been staying on... I don't know how I'll be able to correct this, as I cannot run an AC into the cabinet to keep it cool.

It's the 4th week! Stilling doing the mainlining, for some reason I found myself training the branches to form a bull horn shape, maybe I'll mount it on the wall after this first grow, lmao. I added more CalMag this week, as now I'm thinking the rust/brown spots and tips are from a Calcium deficiency since I am using distilled water. Time to watch these leaves, and if it continues to rust it might be the VPD. Said screw it and cut the leaves off, otherwise, I wasn't going to be able to make the branches extend out further. Since it's all topped now, and everything is done, I think I'll just let it grow for 2 weeks and then see if it's time to switch to flower. Dec 5th - pH 5.7, PPM 810, 1.6 EC, Temp 85f, Humidity 75% Dec 6th - pH 5.8, PPM 830, 1.7 EC, Temp 85f, Humidity 60% Dec 7th - pH 5.9, PPM 980, 2.0 EC, Temp 85f, Humidity 75% (Water changed, 3 gal) Dec 8th - pH 6.1, PPM 1000, 2.0 EC, Temp 80f, Humidity 55% Dec 9th - pH 6.1, PPM 980, 2.0 EC, Temp 80f, Humidity 70% Dec 10th - pH 5.9, PPM 980, 2.0 EC, Temp 80f, Humidity 55% Dec 11th - pH 5.7, PPM 910, 1.8 EC, Temp 80f, Humidity 65% - I told myself I wasn't gonna do anything, I wasn't gonna train anymore or cut anything, but then I figured I needed to make the most out of the small space, so I threw some LST clips on it and trimmed it up to fit. Okay, now I probably won't do anything else besides adjust the cola heights to make them even. I hope.

Into week 6 now, just going to chill and let them do their thing and correct them if they get to uneven heights. You can sort of see I'm trying to train for a cola in each corner, one in the top center, one in the bottom center, and two in the middle center. We'll see how that goes and make adjustments as needed. Dec 12th - pH 5.9, PPM 960, 1.9 EC, Temp 75f, Humidity 70% Dec 13th - pH 5.9, PPM 920, 1.9 EC, Temp 75f, Humidity 60% Dec 14th - pH 5.9, PPM 860, 1.7 EC, Temp 75f, Humidity 75% Dec 15th - pH 5.9, PPM 900, 1.8 EC, Temp 80f, Humidity 70% - Broke a potential cola, :/ I took off the clips cause they were angled enough and noticed one was straightening so I went to bend it a bit and, SNAP, it didn't completely break off, thank god, but I bread-tied it together and taped it so 🙏 fingers crossed. Tbh, it was always the weakest one of them all, but damn... Dec 16th - pH 5.5(?), PPM 910, 1.8 EC, Temp 75f, Humidity 65% - Lost the potential cola :((, edges of the snap were browning, it remained wilted and droopy with no signs of improving, so I just said fuck it and snipped it off. On the 'trying to have a positive outlook' side of things, at least there won't be two colas fighting for the middle now? I know the whole even distribution of energy is kind of ruined now, but I'll try to make the best of it! Compared to what could have happened with the split in the middle of the plant when I first tried mainlining a few weeks ago, I'll take the loss of 1 cola. I really just gotta leave the bitch alone in that closet, lmao. Dec 17th - pH 5.7, PPM 860, 1.7 EC, Temp 80f, Humidity 80% Dec 18th - pH 5.7, PPM 850, 1.7 EC, Temp 85f, Humidity 80%

Jan 17th - pH 6.1, PPM 1250, 2.5 EC, Temp 80f, Humidity 60% - New week on GrowDiaries! Still having the same issue that's plagued me from the start, thinking it's VPD related so I got a dehumidifier coming this week. Hopefully, that'll help! Other than that everything has been going fine. Jan 18th - pH 6.0, PPM 1300, 2.6 EC, Temp 75f, Humidity 50% - Water Changed! Added tons more Cal-Mag Plus in hopes of fixing the issue I've been having for months. We will see where it goes now that I've up the CalMag dosage even higher to 40ml total. Jan 19th - pH 6.4, PPM 1510, 3.0 EC, Temp 95f, Humidity 80% - Noticed more browning in the leaves, adjusted pH to 6.4 according to Bluelab pen, or 6.0 according to GE pH testing drops, or 6.2 according to pH test strips. Really at a loss for what has been plaguing me for months, it's very subtle browning but damn. Jan 20th - Unable to get data for this day. Jan 21st - Unable to get data for this day. Jan 22nd - pH 6.3, PPM 1400, 2.8 EC, Temp 75f, Humidity 50% - Water Changed! Continuing the aggressive Floraseries feed with lots of extra CalMag. Maybe the rust has slowed down on the leaves, I haven't noticed it getting terribly worse, so here's hoping the CalMag is helping. Jan 23rd - Unable to get data for this day.

Keeping the higher pH right now, I lowered the CalMag by 10ml total, and I'm trying to get the VPD under control but I doubt I'll be able to in this closet setup. Next water change I'm going to lower the nutrients in hopes of getting less nutrient burn, and stopping this girl from growing any taller! She tops out at 33.5 inches on her tallest cola, and I have no more room to give it, the lights are as high as they can go. More so than I thought before tbh. Just going to have to run them lower and use more side lighting. Jan 27th - Unable to get data for this day. Jan 28th - Unable to get data for this day. Jan 29th - Unable to get data for this day. Feb 17th - pH 6.2, PPM 850, 1.7 EC, Temp 77f, Humidity 40% - Water Changed! 3gals, 3ml micro 4.5ml grow 6ml bloom 8ml berry 4ml calmag 2ml guard / per gal Feb 18th - Unable to get data for this day. Feb 19th - pH 6.2, PPM 980, 2.0 EC, Temp 78f, Humidity 50% - Added a half gallon of water to help even the PPM and pH, which was way off. Feb 20th - pH 6.1, PPM 1200, 2.4 EC, Temp 81f, Humidity 60% - Adjusted pH back up to 6.1, it's def getting hotter (85f) in the cabinet these days making the PPM nute concentration higher. Probably going to go really low in nutes for the subsequent few water changes, as I've gotten some burn on the tips of my leaves.

Feb 21st - pH 6.0, PPM 750, 1.5 EC, Temp 78f, Humidity 70% - Water Changed, new week! Going to try and keep up on the pH this week, noticing the plant is getting burnt tips, and when checking the pH of the water... boy is it low af. 😔 Just doing a light feed this week as well, and probably the next few too as I think we are getting towards the end now! Really trying to keep the temps down in the cabinet as well, was getting into the low 90s last night until I lowered the max that the lighting could be by 50. 😰 But in good news, there is the tiniest bit of purple! Feb 22nd - (a.m) pH 6.4, PPM 900, 1.8 EC, Temp 85f, Humidity 80% / (p.m.) pH 6.2 (was 5.5), PPM 870 (was 900) 1.8 EC, Temp 75f, Humidity 60% - (a.m.) Cut some leaves off, was vacuuming the very small dead leaf tips off the floor of the cabinet, and got dust and dirt from the vacuum in the water... 😫 and I'm out of distilled right now and the shops aren't open at this hour (I did this ridiculously early in the A.M.) 😅 So I dumped a bit out, pour some new water in, add nutrients, and tried to filter the gunk out with the clay pebbles between two buckets, made a 15-minute thing a nice hour plus. 😊😤 / (p.m.) noticed the pH was dropping still, but much slower than previously where it dipped into the 4's fast af. PPM was still the same as it when in the morning. So I added some pH up and a little bit of distilled water. I definitely think I'm going to keep the lights at the intensity that they currently are, seeing as it's almost time to harvest (probably 2 weeks? idk), and I'm tired of getting nute burn, I wish I understood all of this better in the beginning, but this was a great learning experience and I still think my yield and quality will be great. 😊 I wish this bihh wasn't so goddamn heavy. Makes keeping up on the pH and PPM hard to do, I'm switching it from the water bucket to an empty bucket but like... she smacks the grow lights coming out, she gets water all over the floor, it's basically a two-person job to make sure it goes smoothly lmao. I know one day I'm gonna fuck something up, we'll see. 😋 Feb 23rd - pH 6.3, PPM 780, 1.7 EC, Temp 78f, Humidity 62% - pH adjusted and added a little more water, maybe 2 more weeks tops? Feb 24th - pH 6.1, PPM 870, 1.9 EC, Temp 76f, Humidity 64% - pH adjusted, even though it was only at 5.7, I figured its better to be safe. Added a half gal of water. Feb 25th - Unable to get data for this day. Feb 26th - pH 6.4, PPM 710, 1.4 EC, Temp 74f, Humidity 65% - pH adjusted, was at 5.3 since the last time I adjusted to 6.1, added some more water. Feb 27th - pH 6.0, PPM 870, 1.7 EC, Temp 74f, Humidity 60% -pH Adjusted, although it was still 6.4 from the other day. No new water added, changing it all tomorrow.

FINAL WEEK? Feb 28th - pH 6.0, PPM 400, 0.8 EC, Temp 77f, Humidity 50% - What changed! 3 gals, hoping this to be the final week. The trichomes look good, just want to ensure all are sufficiently done and ripe. Mar 1st - pH 6.3, PPM 400, 0.8 EC, Temp 81f, Humidity 70% - Adjusted pH from 5.0, added water to adjust PPM from 550. Mar 2nd - pH 6.4, PPM 420, 0.8 EC, Temp 80f, Humidity 55% - Adjusted pH from 5.4, added water to adjust PPM from 550. Mar 3rd - pH 6.4, PPM 460, 0.9 EC, Temp 77f, Humidity 62% - No adjustments. Mar 4th - pH 6.2, PPM 460, 0.9 EC, Temp 83f, Humidity 80% - Adjusted pH from 5.7, VPD is ass, no idea on how to change or fix it. I have 2 intakes and one exhaust, the room the cabinet is in is not high in humidity, just the 1.5x2.5 cabinet. :/ I have tried a dehumidifier, but in the end, it didn't collect anything after a few days, so truly at a loss, I've also tried defoliation, but I'm always afraid of doing too much, I mean I guess it's the last week/week and a half so it shouldn't be too bad to cut leaves off but damn, what about the earliest stages, shits going to be tough to dial in... Mar 5th - pH 6.3, PPM 430, 0.9 EC, Temp 85f, Humidity 70% - Adjusted pH from 5.7, seeing more purple on the buds, maybe I'll go another week just to see if any more color comes out. Mar 6th - pH 6.3, PPM 530, 1.1 EC, Temp 83f, Humidity 75% - No adjustments

Okay, seriously, last week I think, seeing some more purple on the bud, and more cloudy overall. Said fuck it, upped the nutes cause flushing isn't real. The pictures are pretty shit this week, tbh. it's really hot and I didn't want to open the cabinet up all the way because if I do, then it turns the brightness of the lights up and turns off the fans and it'd just get hotter, lol. Mar 7th - pH 6.2, PPM 680, 1.4 EC, Temp 80f, Humidity 70% Mar 8th - Unable to get data for this day. Mar 9th - pH 6.1, PPM 730, 1.4 EC, Temp 77f, Humidity 61% - Adjusted pH from low 5's. Mar 10th - pH 6.1, PPM 610, 1.2 EC, Temp 87f, Humidity 66% -Adjusted pH from high 4's, added more water to lower PPM. The trichomes are turning amber, I probably should cut it ASAP, just waiting on some parts for the A/C unit I bought to come in so I can properly dry it without it drying too quickly. 🙌 Mar 11th - pH 5.9, PPM 640, 1.3 EC, Temp 76f, Humidity 60% - No adjustments! Got the AC unit all set up and rigged up to pump cold air directly to the cabinet. Don't know if I'll be able to run this for the entirety of the next grow, but it's definitely doing to be used to dry this grow since the fridge idea from the StrawNana diary is not working out that well... 😞 But this plant has to get cut by the 13th for sure, so much amber and cloudiness. Mar 12th - CHOPPED on Day 74 of Flower! Hung the plant upside down whole to dry. Mar 13th - 🙌 A/C Unit doing well, will report back when the plant is dry!

I had lots of issues with this as it was my first grow essentially and I kept running into VPD issues, whether it be too high of a temperature or humidity, but that is not the fault of the plant or genetics, just have a tiny cabinet to grow in so it's hard to dial things in. There is not much of a smell, it's kind of like a Michael's craft store, or potpourri? It's very subtle and kind of sweet, but it does not stand out. Hopefully, the smell will come out more once it's dried and starting to cure? We'll see. Also, I have no idea the amount of wet weight harvested, I just sort of cut the whole plant at the base and then hung it upside down. 😅
