Germ. Week for the latest run of these spicy bitch cross F1s. Took a minute to get the new run on the grow and decided to stick with coco on a manually operated drip. Left the light a little and they stretched a little more out the seed than I woulda preferred. Other than that, they all popped generally healthy and strong. Background White Karen F1 A cross of a classic white widow and spicy bitch sativa. This was more a kick-in on our last breeding run but the two genetics should mix nicely in terms of effect, as well as a colour variation in late flower. Surfer Girl F1 A cross of a Holy Surfer F1 with the spicy bitch line. Very limited detail and also a kick-in from the last breeding project. Should be heavy on the skunk side of the Holy Surfer spectrum. Hopefully in terms of bud structure too which is both large and dense which will offset the lower yields in the spicy bitch. Only time will tell. These will both be a straight test run on the bud alone to establish whether or not either is even worth pheno hunting. Let’s hope for some 🔥👍.

They’re all up and by all accounts we’ve got maybe two that look like they won’t make it. Temps are a battle right now and the tents too full to get a small heater in there. We’ll just have to see where it goes. Ready, set, grow ladies (and gents)👍.

Week 2 of veg and we destroyed another couple tracking metrics this week. Growth has been slow and hampered. Mainly due to low temps but having the light a little too high didn’t help either. They stretched a little too much out the gate and it’ll probably set this veg cycle back a couple of weeks at least. We’ll be culling 2 of em thst simply aren’t growing right and are fully expected to be stunted. Up side is that this will allow us to get a small heater in there to combat the low temps. Alls otherwise well on this tester run. Background White Karen F1 A cross of a classic white widow and spicy bitch sativa. Week 3 of veg and growth still stalled as a result of low temps. They’re growing, but not particularly well. Got 2 culled from the mix and a heater in the tent. Let’s hope we some improvement soon. Week 4 of veg in the books. Brought the temps up to an even 23c 👌. Also corrected the start of a general overall deficiency, upping the initial nute regimen to typical veg. Levels. At least for the maxi-gro. Great nutes but you never wanna overdo it. The leaf discolouration on the lowers is obvious in the photos. Tops are healthy and flourishing though so we’re good👍. They’re all on the grow now save a struggling SG seedling. Expect to top em and bend em all over end of the week probably. They’re all really lanky and still very juvenile. At this rate min 6 week veg. Not ideal but no current rush right now either so it is what it is. Background White Karen F1 A cross of a classic white widow and spicy bitch sativa. Week 5 of veg in the books and it’s good we hopped on top of the deficiency quickly. It progressed to 2 stacks of lower fans but cleared up nicely heading into this week. We topped em and bent em over for some early canopy maintenance as well. As long as they recover well we might get to the flip in another week or so. Week 6 of veg and they all recovered very well and settled in to full veg. Growth. Didn’t manage any pics this week unfortunately but we flipped to flower at the end of this one. Nows just wait’n on which ones are boys so that we can effect the culling and move along to seeing some buds🤟. Background White Karen F1 A cross of a classic white widow and spicy bitch sativa. Week 7 - first week after the flip and transition commenced rather quickly. The stretch is on heavy and already had to bump the light height a couple times to maintain that 16-18” gap. So far - we have one SG runt, likely two others that are male. The WK are all doing well with maybe one male in the works as well. Still running a heavy feed at the end of each week with the rest being done on bi-daily drip feeds. That may change with flower if they need a more frequent look. Already moved the nutes to an even veg. Bloom mix with the typical calmag that starts at seedling. So far so good. Should be culling end of the week. Week 8 and second week of flower cycle. Transition is rolling along and still on a balanced nute mix. We culled down 1 male of each strain that started showing and we have 1 maybe two confirmed females for the White Karen. The Surfer Girl seems somewhat late to show females and hasn’t really started the tranny yet. Alls well for the most part as long as the stretch tapers out quick as they’re all starting to get pretty stretchy. Background White Karen F1 A cross of a classic white widow and spicy bitch sativa. Week 9 and 3rd week of the transition. We had to cull the SG runt which started looking male and so far, this leaves us with 2 of each strain for a total of 4 potential yielders. The remaining 2 SG are being stubborn and refuse to show their sex. Think one’s a male but again - the sacks refuse to develop. The WKs are confirmed females and have begun bud development in earnest. The only real problem with this run is that these F1 hybrids are really vigorous and stretch like mad. The plants are sitting about 30-36” in height and we’ve had to selectively tie down some of the mains and chop out a heavy amount of underbrush this week. Also moved the nute mix over to a full flower ratio and minus some minor light burn - they’ve showed no signs of any issues. Now we just hope that the stretch slows up a little so we can start seeing some real flower development. In contrast, we have a multi-generation bean in the other space that is farrrr beyond these in terms of flower development so early thoughts on the viability of these ones to move forward another familial step - hmmmm not so sure. Won’t be happening any time soon as each strain has proven uniquely finicky in its own way. We’ll see what the next few weeks brings. Week 10 and 4th of the flower cycle. I’d like to say the stretch has tapered off but it sure doesn’t feel like it. The big tops continue to reach for the light and we’re gonna sacrifice some lower bud sites due to the now excessive heights across all remaining plants. As far as the SG is concerned - 1 of em finally started showing and looks to be a female. That said, the other is still stuck in transition and really does look to be a male. If so, we’re down to 3 plants total to the finish and that one’ll get culled at the end of next week. The WK is developing somewhat slowly but still gonna produce relatively well I think. We upped the nute ratio a little after some lowers started showing deficiency. In an effort to increase airflow but still maintain foliage for this part of flower, the entire tent is subject to light and scattered pruning. Once we see real bud stacking we’ll come in and pull a lot of the remaining lower fan leaves and big uppers. Given the somewhat slow progression, we anticipate a fairly long flowering time. They just don’t have that short flower feel unfortunately. All remains well and the drip system is making feeds a whole lot easier during the busy work week. Week 11 and 5th week since the flip. Alls on track at this point but totally blanked on this week and wasn’t paying attention. They’re still starting to show sex and at this point it feels late and long to me. More to follow in the next week.

Week 12 and 6th since the flip. This is the week where we’ve fully sexed and effectively pared down to the final contestants that will see themselves to the finish. The SG stands as a single lone female of the 4. Two were females but this one’s counterpart was a stunted mess from the hop and not worth keeping. Limited flower development. The WK was pared to two and luckily (at least at this point) it was the 2 most distinctive females in terms of phenotypical traits. One with lush indica leaning leaves more characteristic of the widow, the other more sativa leaning and characteristic of the spicy bitch. Of real concern however, is what appears to be some white blotching of localized leaf areas amongst otherwise completely healthy growth….

Week 7 of flower and things have taken a relatively swift turn for the worse. The notable localized, white splotching on the leaves was due to my 4 year old cobs effectively dying out on me mid-grow. Seems that they were pushing out hotspots as well which were just punishing the plants. I can’t blame the light - these chips owe me nothing after 4 years of straight usage and can literally swap them out for newer tech with the entirety of the current kit in place. Just not right now. We moved over to 2 spider farmer 100w qbs and while these are usually my veg lights - not a whole lot that can be done right now. The late flower, having to switch lights and also having to chop out a bunch of burnt leaves just crushes any grow data I need to benchmark the success of the new cross. So it’s pretty much a wasted grow from this point on….

Week 8 of flower and the pics don’t really do the plants justice. These are post defo and tear out of continually advancing light burn issues. We’re 100w short of previous fixture and still witnessing some significant issues. How much this has impacted flowering and timing is hard to gauge which makes me skeptical from the hop. Still, bud development is taking place and frosting is becoming more prevalent.

Week bloody 11 of flower and while I continue to be disappointed by the length of the cycle (17 weeks and counting on only a 6 week veg.) we are now starting to see some interesting colouring as the WKs begin to fade. Bud development has swelled substantially over the last week - enough to require support for the very weak and thin branches. The lanky stretch as much a possible factor of genetics as it could be a busted grow light. Regardless the buds are quite dense, and more abundant than I had initially expected in hindsight. Not too long on the white Karen but the surfer girl could be 2 weeks+ longer 🤬… we’re coming to the finish now. Finally, mercifully…

Think it’s week 12 of flower here. No pictures this week due to busy life events. Not much doing but waiting in the finish. Trichs are moving to milky but still waiting to see some amber so they’ve got a little more bulking left just yet. Real shame about the earlier light burning conditions too. Both of these strains have faded out with a deep purple and green hue to the mature buds and leaves. They woulda been show stopping photo plants if kept undamaged throughout the cycle. Hopefully only one more week but there’s no rushing the end.👍

Finally coming to the end. These are now done and we’re just picking a day to take em all down. Despite the challenges it looks like they’ll be a fairly good haul of quality bud so, end of the day that’s what truly matters. Still gonna regret the lack of quality data on these though. Hang n dry come’n up!👍 Background White Karen F1 A cross of a classic white widow and spicy bitch sativa.
