Let's get it. Going to make separate diaries for each plant after the grow is done, but will use this for weekly updates on the minutia of my grow. Will I make Master Grower this time? I have seen growers with one journal reach Master so is it relevant.... should I care.... yes... yes I do care.... ;) 😉
I started soil cultures with microbes and mycorrhizae on 29 December allowed them to incubate for two weeks. I heavily saturated the lower 1/2 of soil, added NPK and Microbial Mass microbes, and ammended soil with gaia green and NPK RAW. This was all added to lower half of soil by 6 Jan and then was topped up with dry HP pro mix. This will allow microbes to keep working in a moist environment but keep the seedling away from excessively wet soil and higher nutrient levels. Which neither are ideal during first few days of a seedlings life.
Seeds started 4 Jan 2023
Roots appeared 5-6 Jan
Placed in soil 7 Jan
First up 8 Jan
All 4 up 9 Jan.
9 Jan is end of germination week and start of veg
Germination week over and everything is going great. Misting daily with humidity domes. Four lights running at 15-25% max power, which will increase over the next few weeks.
Pictures are 5 days above soil
Everything has been running smoothly. Humidity has been between 60-66%, temps between 22-26C, I gave a very weak foliar spray of FloraGrow a few times. The concentration was 0.3 ml in a gallon. Lights are between 25-50% and I am to increase this to 50% by end of week 3 veg. 400w of energy currently being used across lights, fans and exhaust.
All good. Temp and RH range acceptable for late veg. Plants seem to respond well to weak foliar spray. One plant had issues, possibly from slight over watering or low nutrients in top layer of soil. I gave a weak soil feeding this week. See how this goes.
Pictures are day 23 above soil
I dropped temp set point on INKBIRD ITC-308 to 23C and narrowed range to 1C high and 1C low. The humidity was getting too high before the 25-26C max temp point kicked in and exhaust would vent. Mositure build up at bottom of tent was main issue as temps outside the tent are -2 to -10C. So the air closest to tent walls rapidly cools and moisture condenses out. VPD..... cold climate growing. Shed growing.
All good. Some deficiencies and light burn. Will elaborate.
Forgot to elaborate. Pretty sure 2314 had some burning on the tips. This plant is located under the most powerful light and may have experienced some light burn. I noticed a few fan leaves had signs of cal or mag deficiencies. I added the cal mag supplement and everything seems good now.
I spent this week starting to tie down the two larger plants. 2313 is way too stocky, which is likely my fault. The p1500 above this plant was too high during veg and the fan blew on it more then the others. Phenotypic plasticity y'all. It responded by being stocky and perhaps it's the genetics
2311 and 2312 are going to be big plants. The stocks are getting thick.
I tried to tie down and make an even canopy with FBT2311 and 2312. These two plants are now starting to fill in nicely with pistils and hopefully are nearing the end of stretching
FBT2313 is a very stout plant. I beleive that my lights were turned too high and the fan blew too hard, causing a phenotypic response. Much further into flower development then 2311 and 2312. A much smaller plant means ot needs less nutes, but the soil was amended with organic inputs at the beginning of the grow and I didn't cut back on supplement feeding enough, so it seems to have more P and/or K then it needs. I did not need to tie down but I used the trellis as a way to open the canopy some for air flow and light penetraion.
FBT2314 ended up slightly larger and stretched a little more then 2313. Flowers are developing nicely and some signs of deficiencies and possible light burn. Otherwise going pretty good. It's difficult to trim the back part of the grow tent so I am letting these ride and see what happens.
Some light burn, some deficiencies, more to come.
2311 and 2312: These plants are starting to pump out lots of pistils and starting to stack. There are quite a few long colas with many bud nodes along the branches. Some signs of P or K imbalance or deficiency. The plant is certainly more sativa leaning. Long lanky colas, thin leaves, delayed or extended flowering times. The offsetting of the flowering times for 11/12 and 13/14 will make final harvest difficult given that the smaller indica leaning plants are at the back of the tent.
2313: Fat chonky colas, fast and early flowering. This plant bulked up a lot between 6 and 7 weeks. Nice purple tones on the buds but no signs of deficiency and lots of stored nutrients to finish this plant off.
2314: This plant has developed nicely over the last week. There is more spacing along the branches and the bud sites have more room for air circulation. Lots of frost over calyx, sugar and fan leaves. Some light burn on leaves and a few signs of deficiencies. Lots of stored nutrients and close enough to the end that I will stay the course and see how this one finishes.
Everything is going well 2314 and 2313 are far along in flower development. Swelling nicely during week 8. Still new pistils on 2313 and lots of white pistils on 2314. Going to let them run for a minimum of 2 more weeks and they are switching to freshwater only.
2312 and 2311 are much larger plants with sativa leaning traits. Long stretched out colas, narrow leaves, delayed flowering time. I am having some issues with 2312. Either a pH issue or deficiency/imbalance issue. Likely magnesium, P or K..... so more nutes could help or make it worse and I am at a point of no return for these so gotta ride it out. 2312 has some haze aroma and 2311 has some sweet berries coming through.
It was mostly a great week, except when ambient temps in shed hit 8-10C and this drove up tent temps to 28-30C. The heat stress became apparent quickly with the upper canopies of 2311, 2312, and 2314 becoming quite crisp. It is what it is. The temp and humidity controllers did their best and I was at work.
2311 is looking amazing. It has really stacked and filled the last two weeks. It has taken on some nice colours and the trichomes have filled in nicely as well with lots of cloudy. 2312 has also done well but still seems a little earlier in flower development. It could use upwards of 2 more weeks but I am not certain I can go this long with degrading the quality of the other plants. All 4 plants will be chopped the same day and cured in the dark.
I started seperate diaries for 13 and 14 and more details can be found there. These are very close to being ready and are super chonky plants from top to bottom.
My last feeding for 13 and 14 was at the end of week 8 and 1/2 the strength of what is reported for week 8. I fed mid week 9 for 11 and 12 at the amounts reported for this week. Let's finish strong and see what happens.
Fantastic week....
NFSOT wellness hobby: This has been a fantastic grow and all of these plants are finishing very well. Apricot auto has a good assortment of amber trichomes which is excellent for me and is exactly what I want for an indica leaning strain. 2311 and 2312 are finishing well and have filled in amazingly well over the last two weeks. 2311 has taken on some nice colours and has stripped all the leaves of colour, which... for me at least..... means that I fed it sufficiently into weeks 8 and 9 and then allowed the plant to utilize whatever was remaining in the soil and leaves. I was worried that the stout 2313 in the back was over fed due to its smaller size but just like the other plants, it too has started stripping the leaves. We are at the end of this fantastic grow and many thanks to @fastbuds_genetics_official for creating these wonderful genetics. I want the trichomes to mature a little more on 2311 and 2312, so I am lowering the power of the lights for week 11 and chopping them on day 76 above ground.
Chop day. 76 days above soil. Lights were turned down to 15-25% for 2313 and 2314. Lights were 75% for 2311 and 2312 till day 75 and then switched to 50%. Plants have been chopped and are now drying at 55-62% RH and 15-20C.
1181 kWhr for the whole 12 week grow. Less than last winters grow. Less electricity with very similar yeilds.... good grow this winter. In fact, 3 plants grew really well this winter while only two plants last winter( 2022) performed extremely well. So, overall I think this grow was a vast improvement. Less electricity, shorter grow period, and equal or possibly better yeilds.
