01.13.23 - Put in paper towels.
01.14.23 - Bubble Gum germinated, put in 2/3 generic potting soil 1/3 perlite in small container and set aside.
01.15.23 - Sour Diesel and Bubble Gum germinated. " Put all under two 23-watt CFL light bulbs at about 20 inches for 18 hours / day.
01.16.23 - AK-47 and Girl Scout Cookies germinated late that night them to bed in soul and perlite the next day. "
01.17.23 - Sour Diesel is the first out of the gate. Just popped out to take her first peek at the world, hat is still on.
01.18.23 - Sour Diesel and Bubble Gum are getting leggy, replaced the two 23-watt CFL's with two 40-watts at about 8 inches. The AK47 and Girl Scout Cookies are still making their ways down and up.
01.19.23 - AK47 and Girl Scout Cookies have pushed through the surface.
01.20.23 - Start of Week 1
01.20.23 - Sour Diesel and BG might have 2.5 inch stems; determined legginess might be from over lighting - changed from two 40-watt CFLs to one 23 watt at 3 inches. Put soil in to cover up legginess in Sour Diesel and Bubble Gum. Now at end of week 1 all are an even 1.5 inches out of surface of the ground.
01.20.23 - Put an extra Girl Scout seed into a peat pellet just to see, had never used one before, one week later - still nothing.01.22.23 - Legginess continues in all, keep trying different light variations and have now increased it back to 2 x 23 watt CFLs. Also added some reflecting barriers to the sides to raise the temperature by about 4 degrees from 62 to 66 degrees. My bet it that's the issue. After 9 days on the first two plants, they still only have first two leaves and two small others. Disappointing.
01.23.23. Decided to give them some water, probably too much, just enough to drain from the bottom, and ditched the CFL altogether. Put them in a tent under the 600 watt LED on Veg phase at 20 inches. Temp is around 69. Hope this helps with the veg phase. Will add a little fan circulation and humidifier tomorrow in place of the saran wrap and plastic bottle halves.
01.24.23 - Added fan and humidifier to equalize the temperature and humidity to around 63 F and 63% humidity with a tiny bit of rustline in those stems.
01.27.23 - Start of Week 2
01.27.23 - All have the first two sets of leaves which just over a half inch, and all but the Girl Scout Cookies are just barely starting to grow the next set.
01.27.23 - Tried to harvest yet another Girl Scout Seed, this time in a tried-and-true damp paper towell.01.28.23 - The struggle continues - looks like the legginness has slowed, and all the girls are healthy, but they are taking their sweet time to grow into their own.
01.28.23 - Added another Girl Scout Cookies seed into the peat container just to see.
01.31.23 - Nothing from Girl Scout Cookie seeds but all plants leaves are starting to grow a bit and continue their long road to health. Nothing exciting but nothing bad either. Distance beween leave sets is minimal.
02.03.23 - Start of Week 3.
Around the middle of the week - decided these slow growers needed some heat so I bought a small heater to add to the tent that raised the heat somewhere in the mid 70 degrees. Tried to keep the humidity in the 50s - 60s. Pictures show beginning of the week and end after the girls are starting to feel more comfortable.
One of the many Girl Scout Cookie seeds I started finally sprouted, so I've got an extra one of those, good because the one that actually did spout seems like an odd one - she is pictured. She is trying to grow out of her slightly deformed leaves, and interestingly enough, she is behaving as if she was topped at a young age with a couple extra shoots developing, so she might be the real producer after all...!
02.10.23 - Start of Week 4
Adding the heat is making a difference. Growth rate is increasing a bit but still slow, not really sure why. Repotted all except the Girl Scout Cookies, which is actually starting to show some signs of normality, but have given up on the last seed that I tried. Think the batch of seeds was bad and I actually got lucky with the one that did come up.
Also decided to turn on the flowering light to try to speed up growth.
02.21.23 - Fimmed the AK-47 and the Bubble Gum.
03.03.23 -Start of Week 6
Continued training and bending.
03.07.23 - Turned lights down from 24 hours to 18 hours to start transition to flower.
03.09.23 - Switched to 12 / 12
03.10.23 -Start of Week 7
Flower - Week 1 - Transition
Continued training and bending, adjusted nutrients.
Plant height - 8 - 10 inches from soil, can see in pictures.
03.12.23 - Defoliated bottom third of each plant and other larger fan leaves, and stretched bud bearing stems away from center. See picture.
03.17.23 - Start of Week 8
Flower - Week 2 - Early Bloom
First photo shows about 2 inches of growth despite continued bending away from center which effectively lowers the height.
Second photo shows bud site development and new growth after defoliation.
03.31.23 - Start of Week 10
Flower - Week 4 - Mid Bloom
Pollination - Week 2 (i.e. pollination started last week)
Fucking Shit. Pollen sacs. On feminized plants. Damnit. Damage Control ensuing. Here's the sitch:
03.31.23 - Last day of third week of flower, went to do the last major defoliation and saw a little green ball on a leaf of the strongest plant, the AK-47. So I investigated. Saw a few more. To make a long story short, the Girl Scout Cookies, the problematic one all along, which I'd usually paired with the AK-47 in the grow tent, had pollen sacs all over the bottoms of the buds, most were open and looked like they'd released all their pollen long ago, from which spread to the AK-47, and elsewhere in the tent. The other plants had sacs too, but less so. I did my best to scrape off and remove them over the next two days. Decided that some weed is better than none. I don't know if the GSC was stressed and pollinated the remaining three, which then made their own pollen sacs, or if all four plants produced their own pollen sacs at the same time, but I believe the GSC was the initiator.
04.02.23 - During my usual watering I noticed less of the usual dank smell and even sort of a flowery smell. I removed more pollen sacs from most of the plants, again, mostly from the AK-47 and the Girl Scout Cookies. The pistils on the GSC especially are turning brown and also on some of the rest; the buds are developing nicely on the rest but remain small on the GSC. One thing of note on the GSC is that I can see that the tops of the buds appear to have stopped developing pistils and look like they're focusing on seeds or possible pollen sacs. I've kept this plant in the corner of the tent out of the way of the fan (which I might regret) and have carefully removed all open pollen sacs and will keep an eye on it. Will likely take it out of the tent shortly depending on how it develops.
04.04.23 - Removed the Girl Scout Cookies from the tent - most lower buds are focused on seeds and / or pollen sacs. Going to keep this next to the tent out of harm's way under a weaker light just to see what happens to see if I can still get something out of it.
04.05.23 - Inspected all the others - removed a few more pollen sacs and confirmed a seed that I removed and cut open. Impossible to say how "pollinated" the remaining three plants are and if the pollinization has spread to the entire plant, or just a few of the buds, but am just going to have to do an inspect and maintain / nurture plan until harvest to see what I can get.
04.14.23 - Start of Week 12
Flower - Week 6 - Late Bloom
Pollination - Week 4
I hesitate to say all is going well given the prevalence of seed pods in all plants now, and most buds, but they're there and I'm going with it. I've brought the Girl Scout Cookies back into the tent as it looks like the damage is done and there are no more pollen sacs in sight. My plan is to just harvest whatever pot and seeds I can get - I'll determine what to do with the seeds later but will label and keep them. I'm researching what kind of seeds I'll get and how to harvest both the pot and seeds now. Considerations are that the Girl Scout was a loser, but not a hermie - and it appeared to be stressed. The question is whether this genetic trait would crop up again in its own offspring as well as others, or if it would be healthy? Or is this a good stress which is what a breeder would want...could I have successfully cross pollinated the other three with GSC to create some new feminized strains? Or have all 4 been similarly stressed to self-pollinate themselves which might not be an ideal seed to grow as it would have the same gene?
04.20 + 1.23 - Start of Week 13
Flower - Week 7 - Late Bloom
Pollination - Week 5
Not much new here other than I'm looking for the visible portions of the seeds to start to turn brown, and signs of things getting ready to harvest. Thus far the seeds still are mostly green, the trichromes appear pretty glassy under a jeweler's loupe, and while there are plenty of brown hairs, and still plenty of white hairs, I believe the prevalence of brown hairs is due to the seeds so I'm going to base harvest time more on trichromes, color of seeds, possibly appearance of hairs - when they're more matted down, etc.
I did see one instance of an open pollen sac on the bottom of a bud, and not on the GSC, but can't recall which one, so it is entirely possible that some of these plants may have self-pollinated themselves, or that the GSC isn't the primary source of pollination.
04.25.23 - found a very brown seed on the Bubble Gum plant when watering and noticed another dark sliver poking out which looks to be another seed so am going to investigate whether it should be ready to harvest this one.
04.28.23 - Start of Week 14
Flower - Week 8 - Flush
Pollination - Week 6
All proceeding as planned. Pulling out some hard and big seeds from these girls, and seeing lots of nicely formed buds as well. Many of the seeds are starting to show themselves, but not a lot so if juding "readiness to harvest for seeds" based on the seeds bursting from their sacs, they could used more time. Stopped all nutrients and started flushing with water only as we're definitely in the harvest window - trichromes are cloudy in most plants and easily past the clear stage.
AK-47. Typical flowering time - 7 - 9 weeks. Most trichromes are milky, possibly and amber one or two. Pistils turned brown long ago.
Girl Scout Cookies. Typical flowering time - 9 - 10 weeks. Buds are undeveloped and trichromes are clear, it appears that most buds have seeds. The underdevelopment is likely because this plant was probably the first out of the gate with pollen sacs and is the main culprit or "pollinator", and has spent most of its time focused on seed production. Not expecting strong pot out of this girl, but looking forward to trying.
Sour Diesel. Typical flowering time - 9 - 10 weeks. Buds well developed and starting to weigh down some of the limbs. Some trichromes are getting amber so this one is maturing faster than expected.
Bubble Gum. Typical flowering time - 8 - 9 weeks. Ditto - well developed and weighty dense buds with even more amber trichromes. This one's ready.
05.05.23 - Start of Week 15
Flower - Week 9 - Flush
Pollination - Week 7
05.07.23 - Pretty much same as last week with everything pushing a little further into the harvest window. Buds getting thicker and some branches sagging from the weight. Seeds looking good. Still very few amber trichromes and any clear ones seem to be more milky in the GSC so going enter 48 hours of Darkness tomorrow.
05.08.23 - Lights kept off, starting 48 hours of darkness.
05.10.23 - Harvest.
