This was an Interesting week, I found out that the previous owners of my house had split 2, 15amps for the entire finished basement one 15amp to run the lights and 1 for all the plugs. Found this out when I had my lights on in my tent and had my hydro system up and running with pumps this put just enough extra load on the basement to shut the whole thing down.
This lead to me needing to get a 100amp Sub panel installed for the basement and splitting the plug outlets in my room onto a separate 20amp all by themselves. Was just glad I got it done before they needed to go into their PODs and I didn't find this out when they were in their final destination homes that would have had me puckering harder than I was for sure.
This week was a little rough I found out the PPM out of the Tap was 236 and that my water had 100PPM out of the starting 236 of Calcium already in it. So using the recommended 2ml/gal that I used for soil was out the window. Also the GH chart provided for t the Trio was out the window because it was shooting the EC way over where it should be for the week I was on. Also realized now that I am doing hydro I need a good PH pen not the crappy one I had been using to check my soil run offs, this 15 dollar one I was using wasn’t going to cut it for hydro. When all was said and done I found that I had to do almost 2/3 less than the recommended and still adjust slightly week to week accordingly to my water conditions.
This week found a controller that I could put in my Reservoir and it gives me a constant TDS/EC PH and Temp right to my phone. It makes a huge difference in knowing exactly where I am at. LIFE SAVER for Hydro. Still without a good chart I had my PH close to what I would have had for this week in soil. Not a good thing, I brought it into comfortable hydro standards of 5.9. Other than that I found that the controller needs to be re-calibrated every 5-7 days because it starts giving slightly higher of lower readings.
Day 26 I did my first Official non emergency water change. Ended up with a 780PPM and a 6.01 PH.
When I did the water testing during Germination and found out that out of my starting PPM of 236, 100 of that was Calcium I had not added any Calcium up until this point. But this week I started noticing a Calcium deficiency around the end of the week.
Added .5ml/gl to see if it would stabilize it and take care of what I was reading in the leaves. I also took the PH from 6.01 to 5.87
So far I feel like this hasn’t been a bad conversion from soil to Hydro. Then tent conditions above are similar and that was pre set with my light for Soil growing so not much of a change there. I was surprised with this system that I am using that I only have to change the water during Veg and all the way up to week 3 of Flower once every two weeks. It is really about maintaining the PH so the plants can eat. I also needed to add a Dehumidifier to my tent at this point.
The Humidity shot up to around 77%, I added a second dehumidifier and started cleaning up the bottoms this dropped the humidity back down to 66%. Also did a side by side day by day photo comparison of my soil grow against this grow. I have to say night and day difference the leaves on the hydro grow are almost twice the size they were with my soil grow at this point.
The Maui Wowi is overshooting the rest of my plants and the roots have filled up half my bucket. I only made it in 3 days of week 6 before I had to drain the system and put it week 1 Flower nutes and flip my lights to a 12/12 to put them into flower.
I really wasn’t expecting to have to flip them this early I really thought I was going to have two more weeks of Veg prior to flip. I have changed out the water to week 1 of Flower Nutes, The Temp and humidity have shot up over this week as well and the plants started their stretch. Roots are looking good and I continue to defoliate the bottom 1/3.
The Maui Wowi has taken over my tent for the most part, it is 4 feet tall 3 feet wide and 3 feet deep, last time I will put a Sativa dominant Hybrid in with Indica Dominant Hybrid. If I every do a Sativa dominant again I will run the same strain for all Pods.
Week 3 is the start of me changing out my Nutes weekly until Flush. I have also started to introduce 2.5ml/gal of Liquid Kool Bloom to the mix. Still worried about the Maui Wowi over shooting my tent. I have tried everything I can think of including super cropping to keep it down and away form the lights. Next I will need to start tying them down and trying to re-route some of the branches to bring the height down.
I really thought this week would be the end of the stretch.. oh how I was mistaken I have instituted tying the branches down to keep them off the light. I had to go with everything I know from weighting them down to Super cropping the tallest branches.
The Maui Wowi has completely taken over the tent it is starting to block out the light of the other 3 strains. This is becoming a single strain show! I am down to less than an inch from the tops of my Maui Wowi to my lights. Tying down and tightening the tie downs daily to try and keep them off the lights. I also had several conversations with some growers that I know about where my buds are at this week and I agree with their assessment that if I had a more powerful light then my buds would probably be a little bit bigger. I ordered a SF7000 for my next grow.
Huston I think we have an issue.. So the temp in the tent has been getting up to 90% for 4 consecutive days as well as the humidity has risen to 77. I know that it is from my room conditions now that I am running 3 lights in the room and it is causing the overall room temperature to rise. I have ordered a portable AC unit for my grow room and it will be here next Thursday so I can only hold on. Heavy defoliation commenced to try and bring the humidity and temp down as best that I can. The Maui Wowi hermied on me under the heat stress.. but it is too big to let it go so I am plucking Balls daily from anything I see. Also I had to chop the Blue cheese down it was dying from lack of light because you guessed it the Maui Wowi has stolen the show and light.
So one of my main tools that I use the save a drop water meter that allows me to know exactly how much water is in my system broke today. Luckily I have a backup on hand, I have contacted the manufacturer and they said a replacement is on the way!! Still slightly in mourning that I lost the Blue cheese last week from lack of light due to the Maui Wowi taking over. Added the Portable AC unit now I am better able to keep the temp down to 82 with Max light during the day and at 65 at night.
This brings the Journal up to speed. So going to start the 48 hour FLush this upcoming Sunday as well as going to move it to 48 hours of light insted of 48 hours of darkness. Then straight into the Freeze dryer to bring it down to 60% humidity in the bud and then to the curing jars. Going to be Timber 2 days into Week 9 of FLower.

Week 8 (Day 7) -FLower- Day 109 Overall
Flush Day and 48 hours of Light. I subscibe to Dr. Bruce Bugbee's suggestion that production is under light instead of under darkness so I no longer do 48 hours of Darkness, I go 48 hours of light before Chop, sending my plants on a marathon run before I Cut. Here is Dr. Bruce on basics of lighting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ID9rE5JewVg
T-2 days until TIMBER
1/23/2023 Started my 48 hour flush and my 48 hours of light yesterday at 8:00am EST. I provided a picture of the Tricomes from the last day of Week 8 for reference and have put pictures of the first day of Week 9 after 24 hours of flush and 24 hours of light. I will do the last set of picturestomorrow after the complestion fo the 48 hours of light and the 48 hours of Flush.. And then TIMBER!!! Cut it down get it into the Freeeze dryer and then start enjoing my harvest Wed afternoon. This has been a fun grow but really excited about the one right behind this. I have a new tent, a new light and gonna be a lot of fun.
