New grow! this is my first try with fabric pots. I'm using 12litre/3gallon pots, they look tiny!
Going with Sweet Pure Auto CBD - my 3rd try. I've been having trouble with the seeds, 1st one died shortly after emerging from the soil and the other time just didn't germinate. I'm trying to get replacement seeds from Herbies but their customer service has gone down hill and email replies are taking weeks so I'm not holding my breath.
Also trying out a freebie seed from Herbies - Gelato Auto. Apparently a very strong strain at 26%
I've never really had a lot of success germinating seeds in paper towels etc, so straight in the medium it goes. Which is actually what I've had most success with.
Fingers crossed they both germinate and I can continue this diary!
28/01/23
Sweet Pure Auto CBD sprouted today! I'm really happy, last 2 times I tried with this strain the seeds were duds so I'm excited to see how she grows :)
Gelato Auto looks to be stuck halfway :( gonna give her another day, then will replace with Zkittlez Auto if it dies. The 2 Zkittlez Auto seeds I put in paper towels last night are doing well, 1 sprouted a tap root in about 24 (maybe a bit less) and the other one is swelling up so should be good to go tomorrow. The sprouted one I've planted in the small pot you can see in the photo, I'll be starting a new diary if she sprouts.
Day 8
Gelato Auto made it in the end, on the same day as CBD, and is growing nicely. They both are :)
Not much to say. Oh I've got a new light set up, 250watt HPS and 250watt LED. It's fixed the humidity issue I was having (too high). Temp is a bit higher than I'd like, a steady 28degrees Celsius. The plants seem to be happy though.
I also got more predator mites, which is what the grain stuff is. It's a preventative measure for these wee ones, and a defensive for the older plants... Thrips.
Day 16
Both growing well, Gelato quite a bit faster though.. she's speeding ahead lol.
LED is down to 200watt now, while they're small. Could probably go down to 150 but there is still some flowering in there.
Looking healthy, watering in fabric is a bit weird but I think I'm doing okay. I've put a layer of Diatomaceous Earth down to hopefully help with the Thrip problem. I've already seen some on these 2 :( After all these grows are done I am definitely going to be starting again and bleaching the tent. Pretty annoying but it has to be done. Anyways, everything is going well so far!
Day 24
Gelato has had great steady growth, I can see the very beginning of a tiny preflower, will probably show tomorrow. Pretty sure this is the tallest veg-state grow I've had so far, looking forward to this ones grow :)
Sweet Pure Auto CBD on the other hand, is very small and has already started preflowering a lot, few days into it. I'm not too concerned, from other growdiaries I've seen it seems to be a pretty small compant strain.
Put 1ml of both emerald harvest grow A and B into todays watering, split between them... so not much. After I did it i realised I probably should have used bloom nutes but ah well, it'll be fine.
I officially don't like fabric pots lol, they make my already poor watering skills even worse. I think I'll stick to plastic airpots :) unless I get really good results in flower that is.
I sprayed both plants with a Pyrethrum based pesticide and it seems to have worked pretty well at keeping thrips at bay. Will probably do another application in a few weeks, painted on this time though - don't want to burn any pistils.
Day 30
Having some watering issues still :-/ I think i'm underwatering - didn't realise that fabric pots dry out faster. (I'd just watered in the pics).
Gelato is looking pretty average... I've opened up the canopy a bit like I usually do. Not expecting much from it, it was a freebie anyway.
CBD is tiny, but seems to be growing okay.
Starting to feed bloom nutes.
Apologies for the filter over the photos, didn't realise it was on.
Gelato - 14 inches tall
CBD - 10.5 inches tall
Day 41
Both have grown quite a bit since my last update, well mostly Gelato anyway. It's grown to 23inches! which makes it my tallest grow so far, wish it was a bit bulkier though lol. I don't think it's going to produce much... I also accidentally snapped the main stem :( I was trying to see if I could bend it over and tie it down... womp womp. Ah well, I taped it up quickly and the pistils are still growing so fingers crossed it'll be okay.
CBD has grown to 13inches, pretty tiny plant, with hardly any side branches. I haven't had much luck with "full CBD" strains. I mean, this is only my 2nd but the first was tiny too. It's smell is incredibly strange too, can't even describe it lol
Fed both 2ml of nutes (2ml both parts) and added some extra Nitrogen for Gelato, as it's leaves are going yellow too quickly. I used a paintbrush to brush on some Pyrethrum based pesticide not too long ago, for thrips. It worked but probably didn't do it any favours. No more thrips though! just in time for the clones I've got, but that's another story... I'll start a grow diary for them eventually.
Day 48
Things are actually looking pretty good :) Gelatos broken main stem/cola is all fixed up and growing well! pretty happy with it to be honest, wasn't expecting it to bounce back so well - might actually get a halfway decent harvest.
CBD is trucking along, she's not gonna get any bigger but that's okay. I wasn't really expecting much and going off other diaries they all seem about the same.
Feeding 1.5-2ml pretty much each watering, trying to keep Gelato's leaves green for a bit longer.
Thrips are trying to come back, found some on CBD but haven't seen any in a few days. Fingers crossed they don't get to the clones (although I think I saw some Thrip markings on one clone, damn)
Gelato is 23.5 inches tall
CBD is 13.5 inches tall
Day 55
Some big changes this week, to Gelato anyway :) She's bulking up really well, way better than I thought. Have to hold back on the nutes a bit though, there's some nute burn but ah well. Looking pretty good considering the life it's had! Might actually be a half-way decent harvest.
CBD is ripening up, I'm planning on harvesting this weekend. I checked her trichomes and they are 80-90% milky. I don't really want any amber as it'll degrade the CBD... that's what I've heard anyway, There's a lot of different information out there but from what I've seen the general consensus is harvest at milky, and breeder time frame is 56 days seed to harvest, I'll be pulling on day 57/58.
Probably 1 more feed of nutrients for Gelato then a flush if I can be bothered (probably not)
Harvested at 60 days, trichomes were milky.
Not much to say about it to be honest. Tiny yield, about 14gm dry. Buds have a terrible structure to them too - super airy. I won't be growing again, probably wouldn't even grow it in a SCROG/SOG setup. There are way better options out there.
Day 65
Photos are from yesterday, it's even more purple now.
Love how this plant is coming along, beautiful Autumn colours. Just wish it had more leaves. Ah well. it's maturing quite fast, I'm guessing another week. Smells candy-like which is a nice change from citrus.
Only water now, no nutrients.
Harvested on 7th of April, 70 days old. Trichomes were all milky with some amber.
I enjoyed watching this one flower, colours are beautiful and I'm impressed at how well it produced considering how it grew. Won't be a big harvest, I'm guessing 40gm, but it'll be nice quality bud. I'd probably grow this again. I didn't weigh it wet.
