Up to this point the seedlings had started off well but then a cold snap hit and slowed them down almost to a standstill. But at this point (week 8) I transferred them inside to the warmth and they started to flourish.
Without completely losing control of the canopy height and uniformity, I’m not supercropping or tying down as much as previous grows, allowing this run to stretch a little more.
Starting to get some buds forming, moderate smell, things are looking nice. My schedule is two feeds of nutes during the weekdays and a big flush of just pH’d water at weekends, seems to be working a treat. I think the frost/cold stasis may have made these plants hardier, these girls are a pleasure. The Gorilla Zkittlez has stretched just slightly more than the other three strains but I can live with that.
Calyx just starting to swell, buds will hopefully fatten up nicely from now on.
I’ve built up the height of the other three plants (which are approximately the same height) to match the Gorilla Zkittlez which is a good 8-10 inches taller than the others, because I encouraged a bit of stretch on this grow.
The plants look fantastic though.
Well, this week we’ve started to see a bit of bulk on the buds but none of the colas are what I would consider big, but I kinda like that, so I’m not bothered, as long as they are dense and fragrant.
The Runtz Muffin is just a gorgeous plant, the Tahoe OG is really starting to swell and look lovely too, the PBC is showing loads of purple just in the space of a few days, and the Gorilla Zkittlez is finally starting to chunk up as it has those buds which sort of cling to the stems. All smells are fruity, skunky, and delicious.
Still taking two full feeds and then one pH’d watering per week.
Not a lot to report which isn’t evident from the pictures. I did build up the remaining three strains to the same height as the tallest they’re getting between about 750-1200 ppfd in the centre, which seems a lot but I am supplementing C02 and there’s no signs of light stress or burn or even foxtailing so I guess these girls can take it! They’re fattening up still, always hard to tell how dense the buds are but the Gorilla Zkittlez looks like it’s gonna be the heavy yielder and might just be a touch behind the others for development. The Peanut butter cookies is still getting fatter but seems the other end of the spectrum and may be ready to finish soon, although she’s still putting out new pistils, pretty purple now too.
The Tahoe OG looks right in the middle, packing on a bit of bulk now and the bud structure looks really neat and tidy. Then finally the Runtz muffin, I carelessly snapped off a top bud when defoliating last week and dried it up and it’s 🔥 already so looking forward to this one maturing properly. I forgot to put that I’d been feeding molasses for the last few weeks, just to feed up the microbes and see if it’s of any benefit.
Well…. They’re coming in to land very nicely. The Tahoe OG and the Gorilla Zkittlez could definitely pack on more weight in the next week, and are looking less ripe (especially at the bottom nuggs) than the PBC and the Runtz muffin, despite the fact they are still fattening and pushing out new pistils, their fans are purple and autumnal colours now, signifying they are nearly there. Checked the trichs on all these and they are a happy amount of milky, with a touch of amber, still some clear. Contrary to popular opinion, I quite like to harvest or at least be prepared to at this point, as it’s the perfect blend of yield and potency.
Buds look great on all these plants, they’ve been an absolute joy to grow to be honest.
Oh… one thing I have implemented, slight reduction in light (down to 80% for a few hours a day) then reduce the time this next week like to 11 to 10 hours a day light, just to encourage finishing. I will give only water for the next week or 10 days depending when I decide to harvest.
Oh and speaking of reducing light, I’ve actually added some too I’m trialling a side/under canopy light producing about 400 ppfd at the slightly less developed bottom nuggs, just to get fractionally more even ripening…never tried it before but I’ve included a pic and these girls have been bathed in light (1000ppfd plus) for weeks of the grow now with no I’ll effect, so I reckon they can take it.
This week I’ve saturated the minimum with water to draw out the stored nutrients and use them up, rather than flushing as such, then towards the end increased to bigger volumes with more runoff. These girls have really got some beautiful and varied colours, especially the Runtz muffin. (Beautiful!)
I’d say the Tahoe OG and G.Zkittlez probably need longer and I’m due to harvest tomorrow but may leave those a little longer, although I might not? I dunno.
Dropped their light to 11 hours now and even put in some of those extra under canopy lights haha… which I think towards the end might help ripen some lower nugs. Worth a shot.
Quite a few amber trichomes now but still majority cloudy.
Not long now.
Well I let them go on for another week in the end and I don’t know whether I’m just used to the smell but I definitely have noticed a decline in the loudness of these girls.
I’m not ‘flushing’ as much as just giving them water and terpinator for the last couple of weeks to help them fade and finish off. More amber trichomes than I usually have, so these are perfectly ripe I’d say.
The additional lights I added to the bottom of the plants definitely worked in maturing the buds but they also made them foxtail and push out pistils and seemed a bit forced. Also needed to account for the extra heat that 3 x small LED strips (approx 25w) so I decided as I wound down the main light to 10.5/13.5 I would turn those off entirely for the last few days.
Decided to harvest all the plants together simply because it makes my life easier, believe it or not? Even though the Gorilla Zkittlez could’ve perhaps gone another week even.
Oh well. Drying and curing is always an anxious time for me and the aromas are not as pungent as I’d hoped, but let’s hope this bud comes out nice because as this has been a long run due to the cold weather hampering veg early on.
Had some mutant leaves and was quite a small seedling but vegged well and grew into a reasonably squat plant which showed trichomes very early into flower development, probably the earliest and frostiest I’ve ever seen. The nugs were small and far apart on the branches, hardly ‘colas’ really, but rock hard and frosty and I loved the autumnal look of this strain. Not smoked any yet as I’m leaving it to cure, but it smells strong, musky, with some berry notes. Great! I reckon the flavours will be powerful.
So this plant was a dream, stayed so lush and healthy throughout, grew tallish, strong really bobbly, swollen calyx structure to the buds, really sparkly with crystals, just lovely.
Smell is fruity and pungent, impressive yield, just great.
It seemed to grow and mature very quickly but then slowly fattened up and produced very cool colours. It went dark purple early similar to the ‘Blackberry Moonrocks’ from Tastebudz, which was impressive but this is even better and the terps are likely more to my taste… although I will find that out soon.
Cali connection have been a bit of a mixed bag, but I’m just popping single seeds here so I can’t really comment on the breeder. They’ve tended to look very pleasing, small plants but nice structure and very leafy in terms of leaves sticking out from the colas themselves. I say this was small but looks to have yielded fairly well.
Like I say… might be magic when smoked… I will update.
