4/5 seeds germinated in under 24h, I transferred them to peat pucks.
*Edit*
The 5th seed germinated the next day.
To prepare my coco, I rehydrated bricks in a 5gal bucket, and added vermiculite.
After more research, I decided to follow a method Dr. MJ Coco uses to prep his coco as follows:
Rehydrate coco
Rinse coco in strainer
Shake wet strainer
Repeat
Mix in perlite
*warning* please use a mask in a well ventilated area when handling dry perlite, the dust can cause serious lung issues, I used a respirator with the vent fan running in my bathroom.
(I used 3qt per 3gal rinsed coco)
Add back to grow bags
(I rinsed down the grow bags with the perlite mix)
Here's the most important part, buffering the coco:
Coco, due to some in depth chemistry, bonds calcium and magnesium, so it needs to be buffered. Otherwise, you'll fight calmag deficiencies for the whole grow.
To buffer coco, you take your 3gal pot of prepped mix, and soak the whole pot in a 5 gal bucket, with 2 gal of double strength calmag
(For GH calimagic, this will be 7.5ml/gal)
For 8 hours, and repeat this soak with fresh 2x strength calmag solution one more time.
This buffers the coco, and makes it less prone to bonding to calmag in your feed, and starving your plant.
Back to current grow conditions:
The 4 peat plugs are in an egg carton style tray
Inside a humid clone dome, over a heatmat.
This is setup inside a 2x2, with a maxsisun mf1000 100w led at max brightness, max height.
I will be transplanting these peat plugs to 1/2 pint cardboard pots of coco mix once the 2nd set of true leaves sprout.
4/2
I transplanted to coco a bit early, and fed 2ml clonex in 1 quart of water
@gottagrowsometime,
I'm not running co2 just yet, I was hoping that high frequency fertigation in coco would be enough to justify it.
Next cycle I plan on running co2, once I find a good mother out of these 4.
@FrontRowAG_BrianG,
Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback. Please consider following my other grow diaries as well! I've got a lot of good stuff coming up soon, including reversals and s1 seed-breeding!
