Hi All! This grow is a bit of a tryout. I didn't want to wait until May to start a new grow, but it's too early in the season to plant outside. This Do-Si-Dos Automatic seed is one I bought last year so I wanted to try and give her a start in my G-Tools growbox, and let her mature outside in the greenhouse. Climate aside, she already provided me with the necessary challenges in the germination stage. It could be that the seed was a bit old, as when it started to sprout the seed shell wouldn't come free of the seedling. I didn't want to risk damaging her with tweezers, so I very carefully removed it with my bare hands, applying just the right amount of pressure to free the seedling without damaging it. After this the next challenge came up, at there was a very thin fleece over the seedling still keeping it from opening it's tiny leaves. Again, barehands I carefully removed it and miraculously the seedling was unharmed. Actually, I had no clue what I was doing, I said a prayer to the Great Gardener and hoped for the best 😁
After the seedling was free of it's restrictions it developed well. The second pair of fan leaves started growing and the's looking healthy with nice green leaves pointing upwards. She will move to the greenhouse in a week or two so I hope she's strong enough to survive outside. I set the light schedule to 13 hours, which is about the amount of daylight hours by the time she will be in the greenhouse. Hope this makes the transition as seamless as possible.
At the start of this week it's good to see the plant is starting to develop faster. She's working on her second node and the leaves look healthy. I increased the distance of the growlight a bit because I adjusted the dimming from 30% to 40%. This way she can get accustomed to the increased light intensity.
For this grow I ordered some LST clips to guide the branches instead of pulling them down with rope. I'm really curious on how this will work out. In a few weeks hopefully you will be able to see them in action.
In the middle of this grow week I noticed some light tracks on the leaves. Could be Thrips as the air in my grow room is still very dry and this can lead to Thrips infestations. To be safe I sprayed the leaves with a Neem oil solution and ordered some predatory mites to take care of any upcoming pests.
In the third week of vegetation the Do Si Dos is really picking up speed. She's forming new leaves daily and also new branches are forming on the nodes. I will move her outside to the greenhouse within a day or 2. To make the transition as painless as possible I set the Sanlight dimmer to 60%. More updates will follow this week!
I moved the plant to the greenhouse this morning and checked on her later this afternoon. So far no signs of stress. She's enjoying her new home under the sun 😎
After the first night outside she shows no signs of stress. Leaves look healthy, the leave tips are pointing upwards and no stagnation in growth.
Last week the plant has grown quite tall. It’s been cold and not so sunny which probably made her stretch more then expected. But given the sub-optimal circumstances she’s looking heathy! I hope to see some early signs of blooming next week so I’ll keep you posted.
Also I noticed some strange spots on the leaves. It could be sunburn since the moisture in the greenhouse causes water drops to stick on the edges of the leaves. I opened the top windows for more air circulation so we’ll see how that works out.
During my vacation I had a neighbour babysitting the Do Si Dos. Although she survived she probably had a bit too much water. The leave tips are curling down which is never a good sign. I'm trusting the plant's resilience to overcome this. Going easy on the watering the next few days to see how she will recover. On the bright side, she started blooming and small buds are forming in the main nodes and branches.
The plant is recovering from the overwatering and the leaves are returning to their healthy shape. The flowers are still quite small but we're still in the early stages of the bloom. Given the rough start and harsh circumstances in the greenhouse I'm still happy with the development sofar. Later this week, when the soil has dried up more, she will receive a bit of Orgatrex and Compost tea for a little boost.
So a day after giving the Do Si Dos a shot of Bio Tabs PK Booster Tea I can see she's looking healthier. The leaves were turning slightly yellow. And now they have a nice green color again. I also noticed she is still growing quite fast. between yesterday and today she gained 12cm in height. The advantage of the long internodes is that no leaves are blocking the sunlight from reaching the buds. In the last few days the buds are growing faster, I guess this is the result of the compost tea working it's magic 😀
She's growing well and more buds are forming each day. She's looking healthy and strong. Each morning she greets me with the leaves raised to the sun and a wonderful scent.
Today, thursday I treated her with Bio PK 5-8 and Epic Bloom form Hy-Pro. The Epic Bloom gave me pretty good buds in a previous grow so I decided to give it another try. According to the description on the RQS website she should have two to three weeks until harvest. The buds look a bit small to me right now, but then I remind myself on how fast the buds can develop in the final weeks of blooming.
At the end of week 7 I can see the buds are now growing faster each day. Trichromes are developing on the buds and sugar leaves as well, great stuff!
The Do Si Dos is beginning to smell really nice. It's a terpene profile I never smelled before in a Cannabis strain. It's best described as Cloves, with floral tones. Kinda spicy, and subtle at the moment. The buds are forming well, and getting more dense each day. The additional nutrients are definitely working well for her. More photos coming up later this week!
At the end of week 8 the buds are growing faster by the day, and develop a beautiful purple hue.
Starting this week I'm giving the Do Si Dos 1 liter of water per day. The buds are beginning to grow faster and faster, so she really needs it at this point. Because of the Geo Textile pots I don't need to worry about overwatering that much. Every day I check the top soil and when it's almost dry I give her 1L of water. I add nutrients to the solution every other day. The smell is also getting stronger by the day. Looking forward to seeing those buds reach full maturity. The sugar leafs are already covered with resin, and even some of the fan leafs as well.
I had a small ant infestation in the greenhouse. Even though ants to not harm the plant directly, they do pave the way for pests. To repel them I used neem oil which I dropped into the nests. After a few days the ants were all gone.
Week 9 is almost up, and the smell keeps getting better by the day. Also this lady is producing trichromes like crazy. She's turning into a frosty Christmas tree 😎
Week 10 and harvest is getting closer by the day 🙌 . The smell is amazing and more and more trichromes are growing on the leafs. The greenhouse is a bit warm during the daytime and I'm not sure if the buds are getting less compact now, or this is just the buds latest stage before they start to swell. It still needs a week or two so let's see what happens in the coming weeks.
After some consideration I decided to move the DoSiDos back inside for her last stretch of blooming. The heat in the greenhouse caused her to foxtail and the buds became less compact. I have a tent I mostly use for drying, but with a 100W Led it can be transformed into a temporary home for the DoSiDos. I'm watching her closely the coming days to make sure she isn't too stressed and starts growing bananas.
As I had hoped the buds are growing mode dense by the day. Instead of foxtailing outwards the buds are now just growing upwards and continue to swell. Not too many brown pistils just yet, so the buds will keep growing bigger for a while.
The DoSiDos is still growing more pistils daily. The buds are swelling very well and it looks like she still has a week or 2 left before harvest. The humidity in the tent is a bit high (56%) so I moved the de-humidifier in the room to keep it below 50% and prevent budrot. The smell is just great, and still getting stronger each day as she matures.
Because the DoSiDos is still growing quite a few white pistils, I have added a 40W red Led to the tent. The red light should stimulate the DoSiDos to speed up the blooming.
Trouble in paradise this Saturday.I noticed a strange looking brownish leaf in the main cola. On further inspection it was full of budrot 😱. Luckily it was the top part of the main cola and I managed to keep most of the plant and none of the other buds had any mould inside. It's a real shame, but this can happen when experimental manoeuvres like dragging your plant inside again in the late stages of bloom. Well, let's see if I can keep her in one piece for at least a week more. The trichromes are still mostly transparant so she needs more time to mature.
After removing most of the main cola I was a bit worried that the plant would stress out too much and needed to be cut down. However she still seems ok, and the white pistils on the lower buds are turning brown(ish). I'm monitoring her closely as I don't want her to grow bananas and pollinate the rest of the ladies.
If this baby makes it to the finish line, I'm giving her a medal for surviving my indecisiveness 😅 She's back outside in the greenhouse. It didn't look like she was maturing anymore and I guess she will be better of outside in the sunshine compared to a tent with a sub-optimal LED light. After 2 days in the greenhouse it looks like the pistils are now turning brown finally.
The DoSiDos proved to be a really strong plant. It survived low temperatures in the early spring and pushed on when temperatures were above 30 degrees. Besides from some mold at the end it didn't give any problems whatsoever. The smell is amazing and also good resin production.
The live resin tastes amazing. This was my first time making live resin and I manage to extract 3 grams in total. It has a strong floral and sweet taste and the high is really intense. It starts out with a intense head high, followed by a deep relaxing body stone, which even lasted until the next day.
This started out as an experimental grow to see how early in the year one could start growing Cannabis. And in the end I'm very excited on how this plant has grown despite the sub-optimal circumstances! Instead of drying and curing, I choose to harvest very quickly and immediately deep freeze the buds for a few days. After this I will make bubble hash, which will be pressed to rosin a few days later. Can I manage to capture the full flavor of the plant? We will see in a week or so 😊 Keep you posted!
