First time trying rockwool. Humidity dome op. The seedlings are turning out a little twisted and misshapen. Hopefully as more of the true leaves come in they will recover. I think either the liquidirt being too hot or FC-6500 on 1 being too bright are why they're twisting up but im not sure.
Set up the tent cam to take a picture every 5 minutes during lights on so I can try and make a cool timelapse. I fed them kinda lightly and I think my EC might be a little low and thats why they're so light colored; they're hungry. I also had the light on 3 but now its on 2. Its sitting pretty high above them so I don't think it should be burning them. They show no signs of stretching however so they're definitely not getting too-little light at least.
Increased nutrient solution. Plants are lighter green than they should be I think. They have healthy taproot growth. Kat is starting to take off so she'll just be a little runt:)
Defoliated them quite a lot as they were very dense. Changed water out of system and mixed a stronger nutrient solution for the final stages of veg. I'm feeling like this might be a very long grow. I was running the light at 30% but started turning it to 100% for a couple hours at noon each day to harden the plants off. And after a week and a half of that I am now running the light at 100% full time which, even with the driver outside of the tent, is generating a lot of heat in the tent. I don't think it's outside the range of acceptable as I am maintaining VPD. But hey it's got chilled water to its roots to compensate so maybe they can handle the extra warmth and it may even be beneficial.
Started to notice what appears to be a calcium deficiency as I was turning the lights up more and more so I am going to add some calmag and run the lights back lower while I address the issue. -5/24/23
5/25/23 - Decided to change out the water again with plain water and then let it sit for a day or two before adding in a weaker strength nutrient mix, currently its at 2.4EC just too hot. When going to do the change I noticed the start of some pistils so I guess theyre starting to flower, which might explain the deficiency as it wants bloom nutes and i just fed it more veg nutes. So I changed the water again and this time mixed in half strength Sensibloom A and B. EC at 1.2 so definitely in better range. Will watch to see how they shape up.
I saw little pistils so I guess its starting to flower probably due to stress or something or just its at that age but either way I had just given it a heavy dose of veg nutes so some nutrient lockout occurred which presented itself as splotching dead spots on some of the lower leaves and the roots turning dark, but not slimy. I drained the system and refilled with bloom nutes at half strength and they perked right up and the roots are lightening up and growing white tips now. I've never run autos before so I don't know if they go through "the stretch" when they start to flower but hopefully they'll get a bit bigger yet before they start to form buds. I have the light at 80% to have the temp at 78F so hopefully everythings dialed in here.
Growth has been good this week. They've filled out the tent. Pistils are forming on all 4 plants. The 2 on the left side of the tent are a little bigger and I'm wondering if I got my species mixed up. So I think starting at the front right and going clockwise around the tent it's Jack herer, forbidden runtz, forbidden runtz, Jack herer but we'll watch and see how they develop. Noticed some slight burning on the tips of the leaves so this EC is probably max what they can handle right now. The water level and ec level are steadily going down which is good.
Roots are looking bad and some of the leaves don't look great. Is all lost? JK i added some H2O2 and it cleaned up the roots and they are sprouting a lot of white new growth and there is no dark brown splotches anymore.
They are eating about .1 EC worth of nutes a day so when I topped the res off this week I also added more nutes up to 1.6 EC
The flowers are starting to fatten up.
