Left the seed in in a wet paper towel in a plastic box in a dark warm room for 3 days, untill the root was about 1-2cm. . 2cm in soil, no tapping the soil afterwards and sprayed some water on it.
On the 4th day the seedling started popping up (1st photo).
I gave it about 3 glasses of water over 4 days. Skipped one day when the soil was still wet.
Humidity is around 60-65%, temperature is at 21-23 degrees Celsius during the day. I have 2 small plastic pots with water next to the plant to keep the humidity up. Fan is on a low stand to keep air circulating. Carbon filter/fan sucking air out of the tent is off currently.
So... Hi! I'm doing my 2nd grow ever and will document it here over the next few months. I'm growing an autoflower plant called Quick One with seeds from Royal Queens Seeds. This grow will (hopefully) be identical to my first attempt, which gave me a pretty decent harvest (36 grams) in 12 weeks. The buds themselves have a great taste and give me a very smooth high, so very eager to try them a second time.
Same tent, lights, soil, pot, seed, but doing at 3 small changes this time, hopefully to get an even bigger yield.
-Filled the pot almost to the top this time, hoping to give the roots more room, and so growing a stronger plant.
-More LST: giving all buds enough room and light to get thicker
-I've bought some nutrients to add in a few weeks.
First of all sorry for the slow update. Personal issues kept me from updating my diary so I'm catching up now (I'm in week 4 now, so I'll try to post week 3 as soon as possible).
The plant is developing as expected, nothing special to mention there.
I do try not to overwater it this time, only adding water once the soil is dry, usually adding one big glass of water every 2 days. There's a fan in the tent blowing air gently, but not directly at the plant.
For this grow, I wanted to experiment more with LST so I've started with a small cord, preventing the plant from going straight up. In week 3 It got big enough to just bend it properly but more on that later.
Humidity was mostly around 60-65%. I still have 2 small plastic containers with water in the tent to keep that up. I do notice humidity gets up to 70-80% at it's peak, but that's not a problem in the first few weeks in my limited experience.
I haven't started with nutriënts yet because the soil itself contained some. On my first growth I didn't add any and the plant developed great (one time I did use a nutriënt for house plants when the leaves suddenly turned yellow, but later I realized this was an overwatering issue). I will use them later on, but I want a more decently developed plant first, in case it might me too much (I have no experience here, so just trying to be careful and not ruin a good start.
One more detail: I'm using the same pot as last time, but filling it almost to the top to give the roots more room. That's why it's 30 litres instead of 25 litres from my last grow. No idea if anyone notices or cares. But I'm trying to share stuff that migth be useful for starting growers 😃
Tl: dr: all is going well, continued with some light LST.
Nothing exciting at the time. I give it around 300-400ml of water as soon as the soil feels dry, most of the time that's once every 48 hours with one exception.
The humidity seems to stabelize around 60% this week, seeing branches developing well and quickly, it went from 'some leaves' to a plant over the last week. No extra nutrition added yet, since I want it to be a bit bigger. I'm still nervous about overdosing it and messing up it's development and I assume chances are smaller if the plant is a bit more dense.
With the plant a bit larger I started bending the top, hoping to get a plant that's a bit more bended/curled, so it's branches would go wider and more equal in heigth. Also pulled some side branches horizontal so that they would develop as wide as possible, again before we enter the flowering phase and need as much light as possible on the flowes.
This week was mostly about LST.
-I'm bending the lowest and second lowest branches to get a wider plant. The aim is that once flowering starts, most tops are around the same height and more spread out, getting the same amount of light without too much blocking eachother.
-I'm also doing LST on the base of the plant. The stem had taken a bend and hoping to lead it in a more curved way aroud the pot. No idea if this will actually work and if it will lead to more equal sized branches and hopefully a higher yield. I will update on this in the future, but feel free to share your thoughts or experiences😊
Doing all this keeps the plant a bit more limited in size. It's now 30 cm tall at day 26 after sprouting from soil. But overall development is great! A lot of quickly growing leaves and branches, very happy with how things are going.
The other thing I did this week was use extra nutrition. Technically it's a product to boost your tomatoes, but I've read and heard from multiple people that cannabis and tomatoes are very similar in needs and grow circumstances.
It's a small 5 gram bag of power with an NPK or 6-5-2 and 2 magnesium that you had to mix with 1 liter of water (the diary for nutrients didn't let me add grams, so I filled in 50ml/L on this page). That was 48 hours ago and I notice no bad reaction. Will probably add another one in 1-2 weeks. Curious if this will make any noticable difference in development or yield.
On the last day of this week I noticed the first pistils showing up. Overall everything is going great and excited to see how fast she's growing!
The plant is growing like expected, I'm adding about 1 liter every 2 days. Humidity is a lot lower because I'm growing with an open window now (the tent is still light sealed, but this way the humidity can get out of the room). Temperature is around 24-26 degrees celsius, mostly because it's pretty hot outside this week.
I stopped doing LST on the top because the main branch got too hard and I didn't want to overstress of damage it. I continued tweaking the side branches, getting a more wide plant.
To my surprise, halfway this week flowering has started. I guess you can discuss if this is some sort of pre-flowering or actual flowering, but you can see it on the tops and lower down the plant.
Now for the part that stressed me a bit:
Earlier this week one of the leaves suddenly looked bad (5th photo). The leaf turned partially yellow with some burn/dry marks. It's a different kind of look compared to when I overwatered. My own suggestion is that this might be because of the nutrition I've added, but I'm too inexperienced to tell. Feel free to share your suggestions or answers to this.
Some (3) other lower leaves turned yellow as well. But this happened last time as well. I guess this is partially because they get less light, and with flowering starting the plant might shift it's energy from leaves to flowers.
In general I'm not worried because the burned look is limited to one leaf and does not seem to spread. I'm careful with overwatering, and I'm not adding extra nutritients yet. I'll also spread that nutrition over 2-3 watering sessions to prevent giving it too much at once.
The plant is now 37cm soil to top, but with LST I bended it at bit so it's a bit lower than it should be. On the positive side: most of my side branches are kinda similar in height and much wider compared to my first grow. If all goes well, The flowers on these branches will develop equally and hopefully with more light going to all of the buds, generating a bigger yield in 2 months.
