All 6 seeds germinated in the peat pellets. No extra nutrients added. It took 4 days to see all 6 germinate. The other 2 QC Blue and the one Grape Skunk are in the fridge in a vacuum sealed bag.😀
Height went from about 10 inches on their last day indoors and just measured today (June 2nd) between 13 to 16 inches. For fertilizer: just a couple of handfuls of Epsom and grass fertilizer (9-0-0) per box and also horse manure and some of my compost.
After removing the pails I added some fertilizer (Custom mix of Epsom salts, tomato fert (9-12-12) and grass fert (9-0-0)) mixed with compost and garden soil. Gave the plants a watering.
Only one plant was topped (Stevie) by something (not me).
Didn't add or plan to add fertilizer this week. No need to water either as there's going to be alot of rain in the forecast.
After cutting the grass on Sunday June 11th, I added the clippings to a couple of boxes (Stevie and Carole). The next time I will add the grass clippings to the Janis/Grace box.
June 19th: Growing good. Good colour. Some of the leaves show signs of pests but not too much. Gave them a good watering. Next significant rainfall is expected to be this Saturday the 24th.
Yesderday June 22, I gave them another watering. It has been sunny and hot this week. Day highs of 27-30degC, no rain. Forecast still calls for rain tomorrow.
June 26:
A hot and humid week in the forecast. We did get rain the past Saturday (June 24th) but not that much. There's alot of storms forecast this week. Added a screenshot of the 7 day forecast. I'll try and remember to add forecasts when I add a new week to my diary.
July 5: A lot of heavy rain and storms. Janis lost a branch but other than that, all is well. Had some japanese beatles for a day (july 4) and removed them, let's see if they come back. No extra water, no fertilizer. Did some trimming of lower branches and small ones inside to start improving air flow.
July 7: Watered yesterday and it rained overnight.
July 7: The lattice I had laid out beside Carole to prevent branches going to the neighbour's side, fell and broke 2 branches. Sigh.
July 8: I decided to LST Janis. Hopefully I did it okay. At just about 5'8" it's difficult so only the lower branches were done.
July 9: I added a mix of compost, epsom salt and tomato fertilizer (6-12-12).
July 10: I didn't water yesterday because they were forecasting rain overnight (70% pop) but of course, it didn't. Dark clouds while I'm typing this, so fingers crossed.
July 14: Had a storm roll through yesterday. A tornado touched down in Barrhaven. No worries here but the strong winds broke a branch off of Grace. Over all looking good. Had to add extra ground stakes to every plant and tie up some of the lower branches. No flowers yet.
- Started using neem oil on my all my garden plants (not just my weed). Not sure if it will work but I figured it can't hurt. I mix a bit dish soap with water and neem oil in a spray bottle. The rough measurements: 1 gallon of water, 2 tsp of soap and 2 TBSP of neem oil.
- I think next year I will setup something better for LST for all my plants AND I'm going to top them all. My Janis at 6'5" and still growing is difficult to look after (compared to Stevie at just under 5')
July 16: Did some trimming just to thin them out a little bit.
July 17: Can't tell if they are flowering or not but it doesn't look like it. Last year my other strain had already started flowering at this time.
July 19: Sprayed with the neem oil mix
July 20: Nothing exciting other than they are still growing.💪
July 20 (I know a few days have passed) : Noticed some discoloration on some of Carole's leaves. Dr. Google says it might be a potassium deficiency. I had bananas in the freezer, thawed two, cut it all up, mixed with dirt and spread it around Carole's base (1 inch deep) then covered with more soil and MJ leaves. This was done a few days ago and it looks like the discoloration has disappeared. Too soon to tell?
July 23: A bit of defoliation
July 28: Last day of week 15. I think I see some pre-flowering but not 100% sure. We had alot of rain over the past 4/5 days, interspersed with sunshine, heat and humidity. It is supposed to cool down a bit this weekend. Next year I will top them all. At 90", Janis will be difficult. Can't wait for them to flower and stop growing. lol :-)
August 3 :
I didn't have much time to tend to the girls this week, busy with work and other chores. Weather is much cooler. No need to water as it is raining every other day.
Going to start looking for a leaf blower on sale somewhere so I can use it to dry my girls in the morning especially when they start to flower.
I don't think they started flowering yet .... maybe pre-flower?
I have to remember a few things for next year:
1. Top all my plants at least once
2. LST on all of them
3. In the fall, mulch the leaves first before adding to the garden boxes but only put a thin layer.
I basically skipped week 17 as there was nothing new except I added some compost tea that I made with come compost, vegetable scraps, a few cedar clippings and neam oil (oh and some fertilizer ... I forget what)
Sprayed with neam oil/soap mix
Life got in the way and I slacked off updating my diary. I'm well into the flowering stage now with one of the Quebec Blue's (Grace) with advanced flowers (the other two, Janis and Stevie) have nice flowers but not has thick and dense. My lone Grape Skunk (Carole) is the most ahead of the game and I'm guessing a week or two from harvest.
Janis, my tallest of them all is just over 10' tall.
I started adding nutrients about 2 weeks ago. It's the brand Indo Max (just the 250ml bottles since I'm late in the season)
I know it's a bit early to think about but next year I might try autos. Seven to ten foot tall plants is a bit much to look after. ;-)
