No Germination Photos, sorry. This Orion F1 is a freebie from Royal Queen Seeds. Decided to buy 3 other strains for fun to grow on my window, and when they were on the way decided to buy a tent and all the grow equipment. Ended up choosing the Orion F1 due to website description.
I germinated these in rockwool using AC Infinity's humidity dome with LED. It sprouted the next day and i left it in the dome for three days, then transplanted the rockwool directly into the DWC bucketed, top portion of rockwool around 2" deep so the leaves were at the top of the pot, keeping some of the stem below the top.
I don't have that many pictures of the first week because the growth was so slow. I transferred it to DWC on Day 3 and growth was really slow after that. I figured it was because my water level was too low being 1" below the pot and the humidity shot down after transferring to DWC. On Day 4 or so I started top feeding, and then added a humidifier and kept the tent at 80% RH. Growth really picked up after I raised the water level 2" below the base of the pot so that it would just be 1" under the bottom of the rockwool. I think the first true set of leaves got too dehydrated prior to adding the humidifier which is why they stayed relatively the same size as the second set. Lessons learned from first grow I guess, this stage could have been a little faster as pictures above are Day 7 or so.
End of week 2, growth picked up after a slow first week, added humidifier
The growth really started picking up fast after adding the humidifier and raising the water level above recommended levels (recommended is 2" below bottom of pot, I did 2" above, temporarily as the roots had yet to extent, this really worked well for me)
I also had the light too close at this point, just 12" from the canopy, the only thing saving me was keeping humidity at about 76%+ RH
Topped on Day 17 above the 5th node instead of the fourth since i didn't want to waste the growth of the 5th node as the leaves and stems were already developed by Day 17, so I removed the baby 6th node instead by rolling it off without cutting. I did not notice any pause in growth due to stress. As stems were showing up on around Day 21, I tucked all the main stem fan leaves down and did my first LST on Day 21. Drilled small holes on the sides of the bucket lid, to put small zip tie loops in where I could secure the plant ties. Started figuring out light should be farther, 12" at the start of the week 18" at the end.
The plant really adjusted well to the LST, I did not defoliate any leaves or stems yet as of Day 25 or so. I did not notice any pause or delay in growth. I raised my lights to 24" and went on a 20-4 light schedule instead since the plant was so short especially wit this being my first grow.
Defoliated main stem fan leaves close to the end of the week, excitedly added an unnecessary trellis net as the plant was finally starting to get some height. More LST to spread out growth and controlled the humidity at 69%.
Added rapidstart late at the end of the week.
Nothing much to say here except more LST and minor defoliation and lollipopping (whatever my newbie version was). Bumped up nutes. Could anyone tell me at this point when my plant started flowering?
Setup:
AC Infinity 2x2x6
Mars Hydro TS 1000
Vivosun 5 GAL DWC
Pawfly 254 GPH Air Pump, 2x 3-4" Air Stone Disks
AC Infinity Cloudline T4 Exhaust
AC Infinity Cloudray S6 Fan
Did a significant lollipopping at the start of the week because it was getting too bushy, this did great for lowering my RH as it was starting to go back to high 60s low 70s uncontrollably. Started using GH Floraseries feedchart moving from medium to aggressive on week 6 with some minor tweaks. The plant responded well to this with no delay in growth.

I thought the plant was done stretching this week but I saw so much growth. The canopy developed a lot this week and the buds definitely started to develop. My canopy is so dense and thick despite pruning over 75 stems and over 250 leaves now by the end of week 7. The stretch is now starting to slow as it is the end of the week with canopy at 28-31" with over 12" of bud depth. I plan to do a major defoliation of this plant (schwazzing, will remove ALL fan leaves with a visible stem except for the top 2 nodes (small nodes counted). I was just waiting, planned to do it at the end of week 6, but my canopy was basically 4" deep with buds instead of 12", good thing I waited as the plant stretched in a major way this week. I plan to do it 1-2 days or so into week 8. Removing 250+ leaves in two separate days did not stop the stretch at all.
Defoliated approximately 500 leaves at the start of the week, not much to say here, a lot of waiting post defoliation. looking back, if defoliation is supposed to occur right after or towards the very end of the stretch, then it seems i did it around 5 days too early (hard to judge when day 21 flower is with autos + first time grower..) because the plant stretched 6+ inches more post defoliation. I did not observe any slowdown in growth post defoliation.
More waiting, removed a lot of stems that i thought would not make it. Looking back, i could have removed those earlier but at this point in the grow, it became clear which buds were not developing trics, not getting fat enough, or the buds were just dying off (pistils already brown with no flower development)
Comments to follow, buds starting to fatten up. Should have defoliated at the start of this week, but leaves weren't really blocking anything. nute schedule also switched to use less nutes. Looking back, maybe i could have defoliated here or a week after as i ended up doing it on week 13 and every old leaf, no matter how small, was blocking a bud on the same stem.
Buds definitely starting to fatten up, started defoliating leaves that were yellowing here and there. Plant also started to require less nutrients so I went down from 1800-2200 EC to 1300-1500 EC.
comments to follow, defoliated throughout the week as leaves were turning yellow and although canopy penetration was good, old leaves were covering fresh light green buds underneath them
comments to follow, defoliated old fan leaves, high quality 1 minute video included. i'm currently at day 86 as of today (october 9), video/photos are day 85/86. when do you think i should harvest?
Help, when do I harvest? Please check my week 13 pictures and video, I'm currently on Day 86 as of today (October 9, 2023), the week 13 pics and video is day 85/86. Hoping for some great guidance :) Thank you!
Definitely able to be Chopped but depending on your preference.
If you want more uplifting energetic then cut when all thrichomes are cloudy.
If you want more sedative relaxing then wait until 30-40% thrichomss are amber color.
If you want a good harvest and don't know what you like wait until you see 10-20% amber thrichomes.
AC infinity sells a jewlers loop magnification thingy for like ten bucks. Buy It and overnight it. Thats the only way to truly know.
I see many white hairs though and it looks like she's going for her last big swell and waiting a week or two could really pack the weight.
But depending on the effect you desire she may need Chopped now.
It's all about the thrichomes and their color, and what your preference is.
Some push sativas further to get more amber since the strain is already uplifting
Some cut Indicas early when only cloudy thricomes because indicas are already sedative
Some cut when 10-20% are amber and rest are cloudy regardless of what kind it is.
If you don't know cut a branch now dry it wait a week or two then cut the rest. Then you'll know which color thrichomes you prefer next harvest
Please pick me as answer so i got a chance to win grower of the month contest. I would really appreciate it growmie. 🙏
You can't really see clear pictures of the thrichomes. Yes you can see the amber ones on the sugar leaves. But that isn't what we want to see. We want to see the thrichomes on the buds, more importantly the ones in the cracks and crevices of the buds.
It requires atleast 30x magnification and 60x is better.
Ac infinity sells a 60x loop for ten bucks. Get one!
Harvest your plant depending on the desired effect you want.
Everyone has their desired effect, so what's yours?
100% cloudy thrichs for a uplifting cerebral head high.
30-50% amber thrichomes and the rest cloudy for a couch locked sedative body stoned high.
10-20% amber colored thrichomes and the rest cloudy for a all are good smoke.
If you don't know harvest some at each phase of the thrichomes colors. Keep those labels so you know. When drying and curing is done, you will be able to smoke each of the different percentages of cloudy VS amber. Then you will know for next you what you prefer.
But 10-20% amber and the rest cloudy is a good number to shoot for. Make sure to check all buds! Low and high from all sides of the plant and get a good overall idea of the plant. Don't just check the tops only.
Goodluck.
Very easy to grow, did not lag at all due to any topping, LST, defoliation whatsoever, kept stretching even after taking out all fan leaves. Looking back, maybe i could have had more main stems and less small ones, but the outcome seemed pretty good! 10oz dried (weight might go up more after the bud absorbs some boveda, dried a little too much because humidity went down to 40% the last 2 days). This went through a 14 day slow dry with great RH for the first 12 days. Extremely trichomy and well shaped unlike the pebble looking dull weed from dealers or some shops that used trimming bowls. 1/3 my plant was falling after removing it from the tent, too heavy right after harvest.
