Disclaimer: I slacked a bit on documenting the first few weeks of this grow. So some weeks don't have photos, but I will fill in as much info as I can. Life...
Popped a few different seeds for this grow. 2 Photoperiod and 2 Auto. (autos will be tracked in a different diary) The stars of this show will be Jackie (Fruity Jack 2:1 CBD) and Camila (BCN Diesel 1:1 CBD)
Soaked the seeds overnight in a glass of water then transferred to a damp paper towel with a heating pad underneath. Took a bit longer than my last grow, but the seeds popped in just over 48 hrs. They then went into 18oz solo cups.
Little sprouts looking good this week. Feeding small amount of root nutrients with each cup taking about 6oz of water every few days. Steady as she goes.
This week was hectic as I was getting ready to head into the desert but I did manage to top the ladies before I left.
Camila was fully topped down to the 3rd node. Jackie was growing slower and only had 4 nodes, so I was only able to FIM her. It will be interesting to see the difference in growth between the FIM and the Top.
I was out in the desert this whole week. In the process of getting there, I forgot to tell someone to water the plants. Oops...
When I got back, they were surprisingly still alive and well!
Alright. Alright. Alright. This is where it starts to get interesting. Now I promise Ill be more consistent with the updates.
After drying out for about 10 days, I got back and gave them a good drink. Then I tied them down with some heavy LST. It was much easier to lay Camila down flat after topping. Where the FIM on Jackie didn't seem to slow down the vertical growth much so the side branches weren't able to tie down as easily.
For this second grow, I upgraded a couple aspects of my set up. First I added a second smaller tent for vegging so I could start stacking the grow cycles and harvest more often. So I moved my original cheap blurple light into that tent and built out a quantum board fixture with two QB288s from HLG for the flower tent.
This week I moved the ladies under the new light to get acquainted.
This week I started to notice the soil might be getting exhausted after checking the runoff. In my last grow I didn't heed the warning and ran into a deficiency mid flower. So I'll learn from the past and start gassing up the nutrients and try to revitalize the soil.
It seems Jackie likes to drink and Camila likes to eat so I'll need to start adjusting to their needs. You can also see the height difference between the two as a result of the FIM vs Top. I wonder if Camila is taking more nutrients because she's branching out like crazy.
This was the first week of flower. In my first grow, I transitioned slowly over the week to 12/12, but for this one I decided to try a hard flip. We'll see if it makes any difference.
I defoliated both ladies right before the flip. I'm still a little cautious of this so aired on the side of leaving more. There was a lot of smaller growth coming out that I was hesitant to touch. So even after taking most of the fan leaves, there was still quite a jungle left, especially with Camila.
I also fed BioMarine with both feedings this week in an attempt to revitalize the life in the soil. Hopefully it will pay off in the coming weeks.
Second week of flower and we're starting to see some development. Both are beginning to stretch a bit and reach for the light.
I don't think the attempted FIM on Jackie worked as planned. She does have some nice side branching but is definitely going to have a big top cola. Hoping she doesn't stretch too much more so I don't have to move the light.
Also the addition of BioMarine last week seems to be paying off and the soil is thriving. Going to start upping the feed over the next couple weeks to fuel the flower show.
Flower is in full swing. I'm hoping Jackie has stopped stretching because she is getting super close to the light and I don't want to move it up anymore because Camila is much lower. I haven't noticed any light stress yet so seems fine for now. Next time they will both get topped.
Did another round of defoliation later this week and removed all the little sucker growth at the bottom. They should have all the room they need now to bulk up.
The ladies are really coming along. Starting to up the nutrients as we hit the middle of flower when they will want to start feeding heavily and where I saw deficiencies show up in my last grow.
@HighTV, I picked up these from HLG: https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/collections/quantum-boards/products/qb288-with-slate-2-heatsink
Then the driver off Amazon, which is a Mean Well HLG 240h-48a. And custom built the frame from 3/4" angle aluminum to fit the tent and get the spacing I wanted to cover two plants. The space in the middle can also fit a 3rd board if I ever want to get crazy.
Looking forward to seeing how they preform! Def a little warmer in the tent now but nothing unmanageable. Just need to supplement to keep the humidity up.
