Runtz clones are blowing up! I used raw honey as opposed to clone juice. Tons of great tips from How We Grow on youtube, check him out. General Hydroponics for the nutrients at week 3-4, and some TPS calmag. I also added dolomite lime top dressing to stabilize PH in the Happy Frog soil. The mother plant did not make it due to severe lockout due to low ph in HF soil. The phenoms having fallen far from the tree.
Flipped to flower this week. She's taking to the SCROG well. I did some light defoliating for leaves under the canopy, I could probably do more, but I don't wanna risk removing too much at this point. Each strain in this grow has it's own diary- Skywalker OG, Bruce Banner, Black Widow, and Apple Betty.
Week 2 of Flower (Day 56 since sprouted)
Just maintaining temps and adjusting light distance.
Fed with 1/2 gallon of feed water PH 6.5
-TPS CalMag 1 mil
-General Hydroponics Trio
-TPS Signal 5 mil per 1 gallon
Light defoliating
Clones looking surprisingly good. The mother plant they spawned from was destroyed in veg due to gnat infestation from poor conditions on my part, however clones were taken while she was healthy and thriving. Sorry for the pic quality, the tent is getting crowded during the stretch and it's hard to get single shots of 1 plant because of the trellis. Lesson learned for me personally, stick with 1-2 different strains per tent up to a 4x4.
Seeing some deficiencies, likely low soil PH or calmag. Added 5 TBS of dolomite to top of soil, and massaged in. Then watered with 1/2 gallon of ph balanced water.
Clones were not doing too well, leaves show clear signs of lockout/deficiencies, possibly from low spoil ph. top dressed with dolomite lime to see if it will recover (I had success with this in the past, but forgot to top-dress). Not getting worse, we'll see what's what in a few days hopefully.
In hindsight, was not the best mother plant for clones, +10 EXP :)
General Hydroponics
FloraMicro - 5 ml/gal
FloraGrow - 3 ml/gal
FloraBloom - 12 ml/gal
TPS CalMag - 1 ml/gal
TPS Signal - 10 ml/gal
1/2 gal of feed per 5 gal pot, ph 6.3
Sorry about the pics- i have a few other strains in the same tent and it's tricky to get isolated shots of each plant.
Firstly, I love Runtz. It's my favorite strain to smoke. It has been the most challenging for me personally to grow as a newb. My plants show clear signs of user error. I'm still optimistic about these plants. I brewed a tea to help give it a boost, and hopefully address the deficiencies which are likely due to lockout and/or underfeeding on my part. I already know what I'd do differently next time. With that said, this plant powered through my inexperience, and has taught me a lot. Since there is little to no new vegetation at this point, I'm not sure if my treatments are working yet. They do not look any worse though, and the buds are surprisingly still blossoming. They don't smell or have any type of aroma yet.
Brewed a tea, aerated for 24 hours before feeding.
per gal of water/ 6.5 ph / .5 gal per plant
Molasses - 1 tbs
fish shit - 5 mil
recharge - 1.5 tbs (meant to use tsp)
mycorrhizae - 1.5 tbs (meant to use tsp)
liquid seaweed - 10 mil
worm castings - 8 tbs
gai green bloom - 6 tbs / 100 ml
Not much new this week. These 2 runtz clones suffered from lockout/calmag deficiency, despite my efforts to combat. Buds are surprisingly fat, and the issue has not progressed in about a week thankfully. No runtz smell, has a mothball type aroma, no pest issues. Just gonna ride it out.
Can't wait to finish! WK 9 of flower. Fed with 3/4 gallon of feed water. 1st photo grow, learning a lot. I think my biggest lesson is medium selection, and not cutting my soil with something lighter, such as promix.
The buds are large, but there is no aroma. Leaves are unhealthy due to issue below, but has not gotten any worse since I top=dressed with some dolomite lime.
The Good-
Big buds compared to my other plants
The Bad-
Lockout and/or deficiency issues due to low soil ph
The Ugly-
Now that I understand my specific batch of Happy Frog soil, I can take countermeasures for my next run.
My soil has very low PH. Despite my efforts to combat this, such as using Dolomite lime, calmag, etc., still no joy.
I have faith in this soil though, or rather my abilities- Mainly because I still got 2 bags left. I think the trick is to only use 50% of the Happy Frog soil if the Ph is low.
Felt great to harvest! I ended up with a little more amber than I would have liked, but it really goes to reinforce that I should be checking trichomes right up until the end, daily if possible. If I did, I would likely have flushed and chopped earlier. A few days makes a big difference, great to know. As of writing, dry tent is about 66 F / 61% RH with slight air circulation.
