TheBudWhisperer Oct 15 - start of week 3 and all going according to plan. HER growth has really come on now and we’ll be transplanting to final pot in the next couple of days. She’s loving the aggressive nute schedule, can’t seem to get enough! Should be good to top and start manifold for week 4 if everything goes well. Today marks the end of prohibition in this country and the cultivation and use of cannabis is a legal right enjoyed by all who choose. Now the hard work of removing 95 years of stigma begins. Which might speed up growth but I’m lazy and stoned so f&$@ it! She’s super healthy and a bit ahead of her cabinet mate which is good. We’ll start the base and top once we have 6 leaf sets. Oct 20 update - the girls seem to have taken well to the transplant. Bumped feeding volume from 400ml per/plant to 1.5L per/plant. No significant run off which is ok for now due to the jump in pot size. TheBudWhisperer Oct 22 - start of week 4 and she’s strong and vigorously growing. Very god thing and think we may be topping a little early - we’ll see how it goes. Nute sched. is in overdrive - every feed right now and she seems to be loving it. Stay tuned for topping #1 and thanks for stopping by👍👊, Oct 24 update - this thing is a beast. We’re at 5th node now but she’s lookn real strong and the stem is really thickening up. I could probably top er now and clean er up but I’m gonna give it one more day to stagger out with her next feeding. Per photos her 3rd node growth and side shutes are coming in nice so should have a solid base For the manifold. She’s been worked hard with the feedigs recently so got a plain ph’d rinse today to wash out any lingering mineral buildup. No big deal, no issues, just preventative. STAY TUNED, first topping come’n up!👍 Oct 26 update - manifold day! First topping and 6th node just poken out. No worries on this plant, she’ll recover just fine from the trim and top.😎🤞. TheBudWhisperer Oct. 29 - start of week 5 and this girl just doesn’t quit. She almost immediately started growing after the chop so now it’s just waiting for the next one. Added the Toughest of all the transformers (Ironhide👍) as some backup but she don’t need it. The clones be doing their thing. Actually surprised they’ve lasted this long. Till next update thanks for swingn in peeps✌️😎👊 Oct 31 update - can’t say enough good things about this strain. She’s fierce! Busy day today and we’ve started to train her base stems out to the sides. HER growth hasn’t slowed at all and shouldn’t be long before we’re trimming off the 4th node of each stem. She’s gettn another ph/cal mag only rinse on next feed and were amping up watering volume cause she’s just started to drink a little more. Really happy with er. THANKS for checkn er out!👊 Nov 2 update - amped er with a full 1 gal. Phd & calmag flush. Just maintenance to ensure we don’t get any buildups. The coco just drains so much more than soil so still trying to dial this in. Prob. Keep a similar water/feed sched. Moving forward just to avoid underwatering issues. TheBudWhisperer Nov. 5 - start of week 6 and this grows so far gone off without a hitch. Third node on each side come’n out now so expect to be topping some time this week. Until then it’s all keepn er spread and low until we have our last 4 tops. The clone experiment is a 2/3’ds fail. The last one is hangn in there but probably just dying slower than the other 2. TheBudWhisperer Nov 12. - start of week 7 and all is looking quality👍. ITs been a busy 3 days to start, some defo and the final topping on the manifold. Kept 2 tips on the second node cause I’m greedy and like weed so... let em grow! we’ll figure it out😎(see vid). TheBudWhisperer Week 8 Summary - Not much to say except what's in the video. This girl is a beast and just takes whatever you throw at er! She's looking good and could flip any time, but we'll wait until end of week 9 I think. I continue to be impressed with the consistency of coco as a growing medium and the botanicare nute sched. appears to be fully on point. 3:1 ratio full strength nutes to calmag only. I know it's early and I've certainly learned my lesson before (#countingchickensbeforehatch) but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna smash this one dudes. There's simply no stopping this plant. TheBudWhisperer Nov. 26 - start of week 9 and her growth has really picked up. TAken her another week before the flip. Might stretch out just a little bit More but other than that - let it grow. Ran an extra nute feed so I can follow up with a full ph rjnse heading into flowering nute change. All still well. Thanks for checkn er it! TheBudWhisperer Dec. 3 - started week 10 with a bunch of work on er. She was becoming a leafy mess and really maturing in terms of veg. The height difference (about 2.5” in the last few days) tells the tale too as she’s really started to gain vertical. The main stem is strong and really thick now - a perfect nutrient highway for the stretch😎. Stripped er pretty good but she bounces back so quick you almost wouldn’t know it 24 hours later. I left a few little shoots in place that have potential to be additional (albeit smaller) colas but they could go too prior to flip this week- we’ll see. I’m super impressed with coco as a medium vs. Soil. The drainage is crazy and the growth rate is definitely a couple weeks quicker based on my last scrog cycle. Thanks as always for the feedback and discussion folks - we be about half way there and it’s about to get real good😉😎. Dec. 7 update - we’ll they hit the rough 12” target height quick. AND she was already filled back in so we gave er another clippn. It’s flip day so next feeding will be when we roll over to the flower nute sched. TheBudWhisperer Dec. 13 - start of week 11 and all's well into the flip to flower. Clipped 'er out real good twice but there's no stopping these girls. Probably looking at some serious pruning over the next 2 weeks. We'll keep it light but regular and with luck, it'll be a perfect mix between max photo synth. and energy allocation. We've gone much more aggressive with the nute shed. - gonna jam 'em every feed on a 5:1 ratioof full strength to calmag only and see how they take to it instead of the current 3:1. @quexos was spot non about the defo - shoulda been a little more ruthless but all good - we'll get there homie😉 Thanks again to the usual suspects for the comments and critiques. TheBudWhisperer Dec. 17 - start of week 12 and we’re now into week 2 of the stretch. She shot up another 2.5 inches this last week. She’s a beast and is making every attempt to crowd out her northern lights neighbour. In retrospect, the choice to leave the top tip of each 2nd node from the first topping was a good choice to fill out the middle. The only drawback is that a lot of the energy that could be going to the rest of the manifold is getting pushed into just these two colas. She’ll still fill out well everywhere else, but it is something to keep in mind for those with more grow space👍 and the beauty of symmetry that comes with this method. On the feeding side of things, we’re moving into the 6th straight nute feed shortly but she’s taken it really well so why not push it a little further during the stretch and see what happens. Cheers folks and thanks for stoppn in👊. Dec. 18 update - clipped ‘ er out a little bit trying to get a head start on pruning some of the branches that were given a chance. A few aren’t gonna make it to the top of the canopy so snippy snippy. Not much else doing, let’n THE STRetch do its thing. Happy grow’n😎 Dec. 22 update - Houston, we have budlets! First true flowers are coming in nicely and all going as planned. She’s gonna get another light clipp’n today or tomorrow as we head into the third week of the stretch. Growth has been phenomenal and so far, no signs of stress or issue with the regular pruning (if anything this is continuing to prove itself a good approach). Maximum plant material retention for photosynthesis while also maintaining as much light penetration as possible with almost no significant stress👍 - treat’n ‘er gentle like a true lady deserves😉. TheBudWhisperer Dec. 24 - start of week 13 and we’re now into week 3 of the stretch. Alls still going good and she’s pushed up another 4”+! Just some light pruning mid week to keep things opened up and air flow moving. The 3rd big defo will be coming up shortly at which point we should have a good sense of her overall final structure. New to the cabinet is ironhide’s arch nemesis, starscream and he’s already begun startn shit! I expect there will be an all out transformer battle in the near future😎. TheBudWhisperer Dec. 31 - start of week 14 - per the photos and while it did work out nicely for me, using the growth tips on the 2nd nodes after the first topping isn’t overly conducive to maintaining an even canopy and growth for a true mainline. The outer branches further away from the stem aren’t getting the same kind of nutrient flow as these two - simply due to proximity. Again, this pays off for us because they’re closest to the centre of the grow light and we need all the bud producing branches we can get. If you have even a slightly larger space than us however - I’d recommend getting rid of em at the start and staying traditional. I’ll use this again for a scrog and actually top these two colas as well. It’ll really pay off under a net for sure👍. Jan 1 update - stretch should be coming to a close soon so this will be our last major defo as the rest of flowering finishes up. Don’t know what to say - we left for the holiday tour and 5 days later they’ve exploded into a hot mess! She’s smelling citrusy and startn to frost nicely now👍. As you can see by the photos, we picked a demarcation line for where We’d clean up the larfy stuff getting no light. The decision here is based on how much light penetration we’re getting through the plant while also keeping in mind that we’re now trying to save as much usable popcorn bud as possible. Was gonna limit this to 8/10 colas originally but a few side branches got away from me and in my greed/laziness, We no longer have the heart to cut em out. She’s been stripped pretty good otherwise and left a couple fans in place here and there to gauge how she took to it - she hasn’t slowed down one bit👍. Not much doing now but some occasional pruning and trich. Watching. TheBudWhisperer Jan 13. - so we’ve arrived at the end of week 15 - week 5 of flower and things are proceeding as expected. I’m super late on the updates with no video 😔 - it’s been busy these days. They’re stack’n pretty good now but with lots of room to bulk for sure. If I were to guess at this point I think they’ll run a little late at like 9/10 weeks flower. Got the first set of trich. Photos up and they’re forming well👍. They’re also startn to stink real good. Also had to clip out a couple little stalks that really shoulda been removed a couple weeks ago but hey - i was stoned😎. Gonna continue to prune here and there to the end and I’ll probably pick a benchmark leaf to leave in place for the photo finish😉. TheBudWhisperer Start of week 6 of flower and all is excellent! The girls are drinking mad now, about 5L a piece every 2 days or so. Watering regimen hasn’t really changed but Runoff is less and less - I’ve been pushing the nute sched. Hard and haven’t given em a straight water in awhile. No ill affects but I have given consideration to cutting out the calmag complete anyway... any experienced thoughts on this appreciated folks😉👍. Someone asked me about defo recently and I’ve been having some good convos about it with others - as u can see, I’m still trimming out each plant regularly even this late game. Again just maxxing out light exposure and tryn to get a good balance of leaves and air flow. The northern lights is startn to colour out nicely and the kush plain stinks! There are officially plans and permits in place with the better half for a significant addition to the existing space (f&$k yeah!). We’ll be swapp’n out the blurple light in short order for something a little more, how you say.... crazy awesome! For now with this cycle, feed and wait. We’re starting to get there now😎👌🤞. TheBudWhisperer Week 17 update - So we’re coming down to the wire and the trichs are starting to cloud out faster than expected. I have seen a couple hints of amber on the upper buds. That said the middle and bottom buds are still underdeveloped so still a couple weeks out👍. I’ve cut out the calmag complete and it really shouldn’t need to be supplemented any further. I’ll stick to a reduced nute feed coming in to flower week 8 and then hopefully on to the flush for week 9 (trich. Dependant). Again, no ill affects from the light being so close at 11” - we had a fairly large amount of larf on the last cycle and wondering if this was due to light distance more so than lack of penetration. Either way, they both got a light final prune to keep the lower buds exposed and air flowing as much as possible. All but a waiting game now folks. Thanks again for taken a look and happy grow’n👊. TheBudWhisperer Welcome to flower week 8 and we’re now almost at the end of this cycle - pretty much as expected in terms of timing and the flush is starting in a few days. Trichomes have started to amber on the tops and leaf tips are starting to colour out. Still not seeing quite as much cloud as preferred. However, Even some of the lower larf should be just about ready in another week or so. Cut back on the nute ratios and I’ll get some trich. Photos up soon. The kush has been stellar the whole way and should chunk out even more over the next few days. Mainline worked like a dream and true to the description, some of the colas have started to fall over under their own bud weight👍. She’s super smelly - best description is a fruity & earthy/rich mahogany aroma 😂. Week+ more to the finish folks - thanks for stoppn in🤘🤙👊. TheBudWhisperer Week 19 Update - here we are at the end of the line😎. Mid week 9 and they’re both pretty much ready. Flushing continues, approx. 50% more water through each of em every 3 days. The northern lights definitely, you can see the trich degradation on the tops and even cloud right through for the most part. she could chop any time (probably End of the week) - right where I wanted er 👍. The kush might go a couple days longer but at this point, think I’ll probably take er down at the same time. She’s colouring out super nice and should be perfect in a few days. TheBudWhisperer Week 20 Update - OK so I lied, I gave her about another week and happy that I did too. She plumped out a little more with the extra room in the cabinet and it allowed her to mature somewhat more lower down the canopy. The buds are huge and I wouldn’t be surprised if it translates to a longer dry time. I’ll give the buds a good 2 weeks more in the jar before putting up final details on scent, taste etc. Adding what we pulled in on the northern lights, it’s safe to say that this cycle broke the cabinet yield record - by how much, I’m still not sure yet😉. TheBudWhisperer Method 📊📊📊 She trained incredibly well and recovered faster from topping than the NL did to a fim. This grow was a slightly different take on a traditional manifold leaving the top growth tips from each 2nd node (first topping) in place. This gave us 10 main colas as opposed to eight and we also left in a few extra shoots which proved to yield just that little bit extra.😉. If we had the space we would’ve stuck with 8 monster colas. Instead, we tried to squeeze usable bud out of every square inch. Maintenance was a bit of a bitch - had to defo numerous times to keep the light penetration optimal. Which brings us to the grow light - I won’t say it was ineffective cause that’s just not true. But, if this one had gotten much bigger we’d have seen some serious diminishing returns in bud quality. The tops and middles of each 10-12” cola were dense and chunky but the lower buds on the outer branches were like giant fluffy larf pillows. Thankfully there weren’t too many of these and I might’ve been able to solve this issue with some yo-yo’s if I wasn’t so damn lazy and “😜” when work’n on the garden. So, grow light review now that we’re through a few cycles - vipar spectra gets a 6/10 from me. It will grow solid, quality bud but certainly has its limitations. Their manual says it’s 450w should cover a space roughly twice the size of mine. I disagree and actual wattage draw is more like 200w. I’m gonna try to stick to photoperiod SCROGs with it in the future. Only real way to max out it’s effectiveness. Big plus - it’s about perfect for this particular space: 1:. Medium 🎛️🎛️🎛️🎛️ Coco is now the go-to medium in lieu of soil when we grow indoors. I can’t specifically say that the growth time is sped up compared to soil because I’m always growing something different but - she did recover very quickly from her toppings and the drainage is wayyyyy better. The fact that it’s nute neutral allows us to dictate exactly what the plant receives at all times. IMO - more manageable and precise than soil. Include a regular diet of calmag and ur good to grow.: 1: Yield🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴 Oh man what a gong show😎. The book on this one says that you’ll end up having to add support for her as bud weight becomes a serious issue in late flower. RQS is absolutely right, I had three smaller colas on the perimeter stretch for the last corner of light and they just got weighed down by the bud and pretty much fell over😂. We like this. Now the numbers - i did the math twice (and while sober just to make sure😉), you don’t wanna do it, it sucked, so you’ll just have to trust me: 1:. Total dried yield for the kush alone: 3.32oz. This crushes the single plant yield for any strain grown in this cabinet to date by well over an 1oz. : 1:😎. Total harvest yield across both plants: 4.99oz. This also crushes the record yield per cycle in the cabinet by a full ounce!: 1:😎👌💪🤩. The stats say an avg. of 500-550g/m2. Based on the rough size of my cabinet the avg. should be 131.25g/0.25m2.... our actual harvest across both strains - 140.6/0.28m2. That’s pretty damn good and spot on with the specs: 1:.😎 Props👊👊👊👊👊 A great many thanks to everyone who stopped in and cared to take some interest in this cycle.
