Started germinating Fast Buds Tropicana Cookies Fast Flowering seeds in pH-balanced water. This is my first time growing their fast flowering versions and I'm really excited to try them knowing Fast Buds quality.
Seeds germinated in two days and had grown just the perfect sized root to be transplanted into small rockwool cubes.
I cut the rockwool cubes halfway and then carefully place the root inside the rockwool leaving the seed out. Then I place the rockwool cubes into small net pots that keep the rockwool cubes closed and also fit the final sized rockwool cubes.
I've also noticed using net pots helps preventing stem rot in my NFT systems because of the small air gap between the small and final sized rockwool cubes created by the net pot, so the small rockwool cube wont get saturated with water after being put into NFT.
I used to get stemrot back when I germinated my seeds in Jiffy coco pellets and placed those inside the round holes in rockwool cubes and then the Jiffys would get super wet and saturated and I feel like that was causing the stemrot. I dont think I've had the same problem when germinating the seeds in small rockwool cubes, now that I think about it.. Anyways, using a small net pot between the Jiffy coco pellet/small rockwool cube and the final sized rockwool cube seems to eliminate the problem too.
I also think seeds germinate/grow roots a lot faster in Jiffy coco pellets than in rockwool cubes.
I feel like I would have gotten a faster and better root growth in the beginning if I had planted the seeds into Jiffys instead of small rockwool cubes. I think the rockwool was just a bit too moist for optimal root growth and also having the rockwool cubes in a propagation box kept the moisture inside the rockwool longer than I would have wanted, so the roots didn't really need to start searching for water.
So the beginning was a bit slower than I would have liked but that's on me and next time I remember to use Jiffys for seeds and rockwool for clones.
I put the plants into an NFT system couple weeks ago. I could have waited a bit longer for the plants to develop a stronger root system before placing the rockwool cubes into NFT but I was being impatient because of the slow start and wanted to get the plants under proper light. Now two weeks later they are growing well with good root development.
I switched the lights to flowering cycle about a week ago so they should start stretching soon. No preflowers yet.
