Hello. I was looking at my old seeds and thought I would try some. I've had these seeds for 2 years now, so the are probably about 3 years old.
I read on Ed Rosenthal's blog something that might help. Check it out ; www.edrosenthal.com/the-guru-of-ganga-blog/how-to-professionally-germinate-cannabis-seeds
I mixed in 1 gallon of boiled and cooled water with some agave juice and some nutrient and some Cal-Mag and soaked the seeds in that mix. See the blog page for exact measurements.
I'll try to microwave the swollen peat pellets next time to see if that will sterilize the peat. Some of the other strain seeds rotted in the peat. 😞
Think this process has helped me get 4 good seedlings from old seeds. I'll try it again to see with some other old seeds.
I think I'll show some more Freak Bros. comics in this diary. I think people enjoy them.
OK. Be Great!
Chuck.
Hello. This is the first week for Purple Cherry.
These plants are taking off now. For old seeds these plants are doing great.
Got some lighter coloration on some of the leaves, nothing to worry about.
That cat tail is a wonder. She cant pull it around when she sleeps as cats do to cover their feet, it stick out.
But she can pull it around to her back when people are around. It's like a finger too. She can wrap it around my wrist when I pat her.
That's the last of the Fabulous Furry Freak Bros. book 3. so on to book 4 for next week. I love their comics too.
Have Fun.
Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 1 and the beginning of week 2 of veg.
Things are doing good here. There was a bit of miss formed leaves in the first weeks, but it look like they are putting out some normal looking leaves now.
I'll let these plants grow in these cups for a few more weeks before I repot them.
The start of a new comic book. The Fabulous Furry Freak Bros. Book #4 Printed in January 1980. Enjoy.
Be Great.
Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 2 and the beginning of week 3 of veg.
Wow. What a week. Since I last reported, I've had some strange things happen.
My wife turned on the furnace and not her fault but it filled the basement with smoke. 😚 The plants seem OK.
Our sewer overflowed in the basement. 😑 Had to run out and rent a drain auger to clear it. That was only $80. instead of calling a 🤑 plumber.
My truck battery died. Good thing I noticed it getting low and had a booster to jump me to get home. New battery $220. 🙁
Woke up in the night and had to pee. Found the roof was leaking in the bathroom but it was coming out the wall at the controller for the electric heated floor.
And it was shorting out the controller and turning off and on about every second. Had to turn off the power to the bathroom floor and clean up the water.
Next day I bought some roof repair putty and was up on the roof for 2 afternoons to fix the leaky shingles. $90. for that. 😕
Went up in the attic the next day to see if there was some soaked insulation and everything looked fine. Weird stuff is going on. Might have to do a cleansing of the house. 🙄
So with all that I forgot about my new seedlings of Lemon Pie Thai and found them curled up dry and had to cancel the diary.
It's been quite a week.
Hope yours was better.
Chuck.
Hello. this is the end of week 3 and the beginning of week 4 of veg.
For 4 little plants, I can smell them when I open the tent.
They are smelling of Afghani or Hindu Kush. The smell is sweetish but with dank potential.
The plants got 2 feedings this week and are looking good.
I pinched of some lower leaves this week, that were going yellow. I smelled my fingers and smelled cherries through the Afghani.
I'll try to get them transplanted this week and start on my mainlines. On some of the pictures you can see the little branches starting.
I like to start my mainlines after the 4th leaf node. That gives me 8 branches to work with once they grow out.
More next week.
Keep Growing Straight.
Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 5 and the beginning of week 6 of veg.
I missed reporting last week, I was putting leaf mulch under all my bushes and trees for the humming birds that stay year round.
Things are going good in here. Just repotted a few days ago and topped them. I can see the mainline branches starting to grow out.
Plant #3 had already topped itself a few weeks ago. It somehow has got 2 main branches going up, so I topped them both.
I can smell hints of cherries through the main smell of Afghani when I open the tent now.
I'm having to measure and adjust all the water I use now. The municipal water that has always been 6.5 ph, is now 7.5 ph. ?
OK. Keep Growing Straight.
Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 6 and the beginning of week 7 of veg.
Things are going good this week. I done no trimming or pruning this week, just let them grow.
They are fairly compact plants so I will have to get in here next week and take off some more fan leaves for good air flow around the plants and promote growth.
Got a new thermal camera. Got the sale price at Amazon on cyber Monday. So you will see some more thermal pics in the future. ✨
Just waiting for the mains to grow out. Could be a few more weeks with these compact plants. Can't wait to try the sweet cherry taste. 😀
OK. Be Great.
Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 7 and the beginning of week 8 of veg.
I'll be getting in here this week and doing some LST and tying down of the main branches and the other branches, getting ready for flipping to flowering.
It will still be a few weeks before the flip, they need to grow a bit more before I flip them.
Hope your enjoying the comics. 😊
I'll try to remember to put up my nutrients that I'm using next week.
Have Fun. Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 8 and the beginning of week 9 of veg.
Got in here last night and did some training. Got all the larger branches pulled down and secured with copper wire.
I like copper for this because it doesn't rust if it gets wet. Rust is not good in contact with the plant or roots.
The smaller branches I pushed to the center where they can grow straight up.
It will be a few more weeks before I switch to flowering. I just sent my plants into shock by taking a lot of leaves and small branches off at once.
I have to wait for them to heal and then go back to growing again before I can switch. If I flip to flowering too soon, the plants don't do as good in flowering as they could.
The trick is, letting them heal for a sufficient amount of time before going into flowering. Better yields that way.
Ok. Have fun.
Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of veg and the first week of flowering.
The plants have healed and are on their way up, so it time to flower. The next trimming/pruning is done between the 2nd and 3rd weeks of flowering.
I've just got to get in here and take some cuttings of each plant for clones.
These plant are going on the night shift to flower. They will be flowering from 8 pm to 8 am. I've got black plastic on the rooms windows so no light gets through.
Everything is going good in here.
Be Great!!
Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 1 and the beginning of week 2 of flowering.
Things are going well in here. Can't see the flowers yet but I know they are starting.
Looking forward to that Cherry taste. Hope it big and sweet!
The next trim/ prune is between the 2nd and 3rd weeks of flowering. And then leave them alone until harvest.
These have been short plants so far, I'm not expecting a big stretch out of them.
Have Fun.
Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 2 and the beginning of week 3 of flowering.
Things are going well in here. I've got to get in here this week and do the last trim/prune. Got to get it done before the resin starts.
I'll be concentrating on removing some fan leaves, ones that don't get light and those blocking the light in the center, and the sucker branches.
Expecting cold weather for the next week. We usually don't get the freezing stuff around here, and most people around here can't drive in the snow too!
OK. Be Great.
Chucky.
Hello. This is the end of week 3 and the beginning of week 4 of flowering.
I got in here this week and did the last trim/prune and sucker branch removal. I like to do that before the resin starts to develop.
I can see in the pictures that Plant #1 has just started it's resin production.
I can see some yellow leaves on plant #3, so they got a big drink of nitrogen this last week, to help keep them green a little longer.
Wow what a week. We had record breaking cold temps this past week, no snow just cold and windy.
It got to -10 c for 2 nights, with wind chill it got to -21 c. And I've got hummingbird feeders that I was trying to keep unfrozen. (they like sugar water)
We will be climbing out of the cold this week. Woke up to 1/2 inch of snow this morning but it's +1 c out there. Back to normal temps by this comming Saturday.
OK. Be Great. Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 4 and the beginning of week 5 of flowering.
Everything is going good in here.
They got a big drink of ph adjusted water last night.
If I add 5 drops of ph down it brings down the ph to 5.7
Still 6 week to go.
After last weeks cold spell, it's +12 c outside today.
Have Fun.
Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 5 and the beginning of week 6 of flowering.
Wow, The smell has kicked in now. Sometimes it smells of cut ripe strawberry and sometimes it smells like a very ripe papaya. Very sweet and fruity.
We are 1/2 way through flowering and we finished the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers Book #4. I'll find some other weird comics for next week and up till the end.
These Plants are on the night shift. The light comes on at 7:30 pm and off at 8 am. So I forgot to take pictures last night while the light were on. 🙄
Things are going good in here. I feed every 2nd watering. It's the same mix I use in the hydroponics. The plants like it and flower well with it.
Got rid of the fungus gnats about a month ago. 😃 I bought some nematodes off the internet and applied them to all the plants in the house. We haven't seen one in awhile.
About a month ago Anesia Seeds asked me to grow testers for them, but they can't ship to Canada. Last week Seedsman asked me to grow for them.
This week Growers Choice seeds asked if I was interested in growing for them too. Wow, I think I'm doing alright if they are noticing and asking.
OK. Have Fun.
Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 6 and the beginning of week 7 of flowering. We're going to 10 weeks because that's what I like to do.
It smell absolutely wonderful in here. It's sweet, like strawberries or papaya or sort of a mango. Just wonderful.
Things are going well in here. There is some yellowing of some fan leaves so everybody got some extra nitrogen yesterday.
Printed, Oct of 1967, it's the first issue of ZAP Comics. Thought you might enjoy it. Were you born in 1967? I was 9.
Be Great.
Chuck.
Hello This is the end of week 7 and the beginning of week 8 of flowering.
One more week of food for the girls and then 2 weeks of flushing and 2 days of dark before harvest is what is left for these plants.
The smell is wonderful in here. Smells more like ripe cut strawberries than cherries to me. It may taste like cherries when it's cured. Sweet, red fruity, smell.
Nice strong branches that hold up the buds. Got some purple going on. There should be more purple showing up after I start to flush.
OK. Be Great.
Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 8 and the beginning of week 9 of flowering.
Plants got straight water last night. I am starting flushing last night.
I'll try to get 4 good flushes in before I harvest in 2 weeks. I like a couple of dark days before harvest.
It smells wonderful in here. Strong smell of either Sweet just cut up fresh strawberries or Sweet just cut up fresh cherries.
Can't wait to taste them. Hope they are strong too!!!
Harvest in 2 weeks. I like to take everything to 10 weeks of flowering. I find I like ripe buds.
OK. Be Great.
Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 9 and the beginning of week 10 of flowering.
Smells wonderful in here. Like strawberries or cherries. Sweet red/purple fruit.
One more week of flushing in here. Then harvest next week.
I wet trim all the branches and hang for 3 or 4 days. Then cut the buds off the branches into paper bags to cure.
Leave the paper bags hanging for a week before checking. If the middle buds are still wet you will need to rehang for a few more days.
Give it a try. The buds are dried and cured in 2 weeks with no burping the jars and you don't have to dump out the jars and fluff up of the buds.
I'll post pre harvest pics next week.
Ok. Be Cool.
Chuck.
Hello. This is the end of week 10. With 2 days of dark and then harvest.
Last look at these beauty's. I'm liking #3 might have to reveg that one.
They smell wonderful. Like sweet red or purple fruit. Sort of a freshly cut up bowl of strawberries or cherries with some hints of mango too.
Lots of color on these. They got down to about 16c in that bedroom on some nights this winter.
So if they were grown outside with colder temps you'll get more color.
Looks like a nice stable strain too. With only small differences between plants. and they all had about the same sized buds too, another sign of stableness.
Ok. Be Great.
Chuck.
Hello This is the end of the Purple Cherry Diary. Hope you enjoyed it.
This is a great strain to grow. I enjoyed it. The buds kept getting bigger till I had to tie them up at the end.
The smell was great when I was growing it, like strawberries or like cherries. But it tastes n more like wine at the end.
Plant #4 is the strongest and I'm enjoying it. About 23% THC, best guess: with some CBD too, with the body stone.
It was easy to trim up and the buds were big and dense. Dried hard. Nice indicia dom plants.
Little disappointed in the taste. It smelled like a big bowl of cut up strawberries and I was hoping the taste would carry through.
But the end taste is of sour like wine and fruity where I can sorta make out the cherries. But nice not bad, but disappointed it wasn't more.
