Germination

Started in paper towel in bag placed on top of the grow light covered up. It gets barely warm on the grow light which created a humidity type enclosure and served as a heat mat. It worked very well and may be my go to in the future. Otherwise the paper towel was getting chilled which did not seem ideal. I put it in bag on light on 12th, it had a tap root by the 14th so I planted it in a 5 gal grow bag (it was the only size I had but I prefer 3 gal) with humidity dome. It’s my first time doing the dome and it made a big difference. I mixed half Happy Frog and Loco coco which both have perlite. I haven’t had to water it much yet and just do small sprays around base when it looks dry. This is the last seed of this type I have, all germinated out of 3, first one I stunted so it stayed tiny, it was all me but lesson learned, 2nd one is ahead of this one by a week and is doing great. I like Barney’s seeds a lot though I’ve only done a few so far I’m happy with them. I’m new so any issues would probably be me. I do check my PH which runs at 7 so I lower it to about 6.0-ish. I’m learning a ton and oddly don’t care so much about yield but want to grow a healthy strong plant. I find it fascinating how quickly they grow.

It’s off to a good start. I know the soil looks dry but it’s not underneath. She’s doing good. I named her Apple. She’s not stretching, is very sturdy and seems to be growing faster then previous seed I did. I haven’t given her any nutes since she has not needed water. I got a dehumidifier because my humidity is high. I have a oscillating fan, an exhaust fan with good air flow. I have another fan in the upper part of the tent that is usually on as well. It got a bit chilly in the tent at 67F or so but I don’t think she minded much. The light doesn’t put out any substantial heat which is good for when the room is warmer.

Dr Earth Pump 15 mll
Apple(I like to name my plants.) is off to a great start, growing pretty fast actually. I decided to try some Dr. Earth 2-2-1 Pump & Grow that I added to a gallon of water. It drops the PH terribly though so I had to bring it up from under a PH of 4.0 to 6.0. She’s in a Happy Frog/Coco mix and was looking a bit dry so I just gave her a little around her base and will see how she responds. I probably won’t continue using Dr. Earth for her but it does really well on other plants and isn’t too strong so I gave it a try. I’ll add her measurements on my next entry as I forgot to check. I think she’s a bit over 2 inches if I had to guess. She’s handling a bit higher light amount then I would like but I have other plants that need it so I placed her in the spot that doesn’t get as much and she’s doing great. She is further away as she’s not on a stand and the light spread has really helped. I have never been a fertilizer person so I really have no idea what I’m doing unfortunately. I’m using General Hydroponics on my other gals that are in week 4 and they seem to like it despite my goof mixing them wrong as well as over feeding them once. I was a bit worried I stunted them so I planted another seed just in case. All but one is fine but one does seem to be struggling in the grow but it has since it was germinated. Could be a faulty seed on top of my mistakes. It’s a different breed/type though. The humidity is still too high (67%)but the dehumidifier is working hard so I’ll see but as of now I’m not impressed as it’s adding heat which I don’t care for much. I want it a bit cooler for the carrots I’m growing in the corner lol. I have a good bit of circulation along with a clean dry uncluttered environment so I’m hoping that helps. Sorry for the long entries but I’m so excited to share!

Apple is off to a great start and is heading into week 3. I decided to water her with just plain 6.0 water as I’m finding my run off is kinda high on ppm and she’s doing well so far with what I’ve been doing so I’ll keep doing it. She’s already 3.5” tall, seems to be growing really fast. I think my light is a bit higher then 30” from her because I’m adjusting it for a taller plant. Here DLI and the PPFD are sufficient for her so it’s working out very well plus she looks great. I’ve seen a few others who’ve grown this strain by Barneys since starting which has made me nervous as I really hope she’s not huge like many of them. I have my light set for 18 hrs on/6 off which works perfectly with the timer. If I could I’d be running another tent but I’m limited by how many I can grow and space unfortunately. Thank you for reading my entry!
