We’re in the market for a new mommy!
Germination method: soak in water 12 hours, wet paper towel for 24 hours, planted in 2oz of coco coir once tap root appeared, placed in humidity dome.
Using pro mix cx coco coir grow bags rehydrated with GP3 micro. I have found I’m better suited to coco for container growing as I have trouble gauging watering needs. And these bags are so easy and fun to use.
The 5 seedlings sprouted October 25: original lemon pie x3 and gorilla lemon fire x2
I love both these strains for managing my MS symptoms and I’m looking for a new mommy to bonsai. Our last attempt at germination lost 10 seeds due to crappy soil. This time in the coco, we were successful in germinating the last 5 seeds 😌 our first attempt with these 2 strains was an outdoor grow and the effects of the cured herb on my symptoms was so profound that we decided we needed to try to preserve the genetics.
Grow plan is to manifold all 5, take clones when we switch to flower and bonsai the clones until we decide on a keeper.
Happy growing 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱
I’m using a “sunlike” led with additional IR and holy crap did it make all my seedlings stretch several inches compared to when I germinate under a blurple. I replanted them and put together their new home - a 2x3 veg tent with shelves for moms and clones and a divider if you want to have the 2x2 space on a different light schedule. I’m not using the divider because everything in here is on 18/6 and I think the additional lighting in the space is helpful. Gave them a new light and dimmed the power to 50%. No more stretching thankfully and they have adjusted well with the transition. Roots starting to peek out of the solo cups so will be transplanting them by the end of the week. Giving them collected rain water and enriching with the GP3 nute schedule. I’m ridiculously happy with this tent set up.
Pinched out the growth tip on the 4th node of one OLP. Attempted to clone another.
Happy growing 🌱
Moved our seedlings to their new home last week and they have adjusted well and continued growing. Roots are starting to sneak out of some of the solo cups so I will be transplanting this week. Started adding rezin to the feed. Watering 2-3 times per week. Pinched out 3 of them so far, one OLP is lagging behind. Using rain water and GP3 nutrients. End of week defoliated the lower nodes of the 3 that I topped.
Hmm.. I was planning on transplanting as soon as roots started poking through the bottom but I’m thinking now I’d like to keep them small for a bit longer before potting up. There’s been some issues that will delay flipping to flower for another few weeks and I don’t really have space for the growth they will put on once given a full gallon of coco to spread out.
Last week I pinched out the 4th node on 3 out of 4 plants. Only one of them was big enough to “top” and the other two I had to squeeze my nail in there to remove the growth.. 3 days later the new tops were visible and looks like I managed to nicely top 1 and FIM the other 2! Cool!!
We still have one that’s struggling and I’m ok with that. She will probably take off when she gets more space and if not then that’s ok too.
They have adjusted to the change of lighting well and the 4-finger leaves are the only sign that anything changed. They stretched so damn much under the other light that they are a bit flimsy still. Hopefully the topping encourages the stem to thicken up. They were planted deeper already but once I transplant I will likely have to try and bury some more of that stem.
Love this little viparspectra light. The dimmer is just so convenient.
We are in the middle of a storm so humidity is high which is great for these ladies as I had been struggling to raise humidity in this new tent and now it’s staying up about 55-60%
I probably won’t do much with them this week except increase feeding to daily to make the most of the coco and just enjoy watching them grow.
Happy growing 🌱
Did a 2nd topping and I didn’t like how the FIMs worked out so topped them too. Removed the fan leaves and will probably repot and start training next week. Keeping them small for now. I've got a bit of time yet because the flowering tent was delayed by a couple weeks due to all the stress I caused the autos during setup issues 😂 thankfully these photos will recover fine once they are potted up and are given some space to root out their new containers. So for now we are just biding time and keeping them going.
Happy growing
Finally getting around to transplanting these wee plants from 500ml cups into 2 gallon fabric pots of coco. Root balls look awesome. I’m going to let them root out the new pots before switching to flower. New order of coco arriving later today so I will finish transplanting tonight. Still giving veg nute, only watering once daily at lights on because I was keeping them small, hand watering and lazy 🙃 but I will increase to 2-3-4-5 times per day over the next 4 weeks now that they have space to grow. Also planted up some rooted clones planted into 500ml pots/solo cups.
3 original lemon pies with 4 tops each
1 gorilla lemon fire with 8 tops
All planted in 2 gallons pro-mix cx, gp3 nutes, final pruning of all extra growth sites and leaves, switched lights to 12-12 and watered using flowering schedule for gp3 nutrients. Supercropped the OLPs and used plant wire to train GLF.
Oops I missed a week, forgot to take photos while I was cleaning out the flowering tent and reorganizing the little one..
Anywho, I’ve moved GLF to the flowering tent to give her lots of space, 2 OLPs in the 2x2, 1 OLP in a 1x2 area and all the solo cup clones to another 1x2 shelf.. I tried supercropping the tallest branches, probably got the timing wrong but I’m ok with experimenting with this hobby, that’s how I learn :)
GLF - 2g - 24” mainline
OLP 2 - 2g - 20” topped
OLP 3 - 2g - 18” topped (and broke 2 branches!)
OLP 4 - 2g - 15” topped, LST & super cropped
OLP 1 - 500ml x4 - 10” super cropped
Little bit of defoliation on bottom and centre.
All doing well. Increased water needs. Flowers starting to develop. The OLPs are a week behind because the timer in their tent was flipping back and forth between 12-12 and 18-6 for about 10 days.. ooosie!
Moms are being maintained as little bonsai plants in solo cups in my back bedroom near the window with a single 100w panel set to 18-6. Being mostly neglected, infrequent watering, lean fertilizer, heavy defoliation.
GLF is doing great and her clones are safe. Im so grateful this one survived. She’s a good specimen.
OLP 1 is doing great.
I dumped the clone of OLP 2, she’s lovely and bushy but she was the runt of this batch all along and she’s even slower than the rest in flipping over to flower. Can’t wait to harvest her but I have better copies
OLP 3 doing great under the old blurple with side lighting from the viparspectras.
Gratitude’s clones flowering in cups are beautiful.
Pothead’s first clone under 12-12 from rooting is doing great. Cute little sprout. 🌱
Increasing watering frequency and maintaining environment and watching and waiting.
We think we discovered and solved a light leak in the 2x2 which might explain olp3 being so far behind.
Stopped using liquid weight while dealing with this fungus gnat infestation. My research is telling me I don’t need sugars in my indoor coco grows so I will save the bottle for my summer outdoor grow but I won’t repurchase.
Tested the ppfd of the 3 spaces all reading about 1000 top of canopy.
Watering x2 a day
Changed the feed for the end of bloom. Watching, waiting, watering 3 times a day. Very resinous, the tent glitters, hard to photograph.
The clones are getting a bit nute burnt it’s hard to keep the little pots happy but everything else in 2 gallon pots is looking good.
Environment is stable. OLP3 under the blurple is definitely a few weeks behind the rest but since solving the light leak she has started to make very skinny looking flowers, I probably won’t use this light for flowering going forward it’s ok but the other lights have proven to grow better flower.
We are getting there! Reduced the feed, ran out of massive but that’s ok because I think we are about ready to start flushing. These are very resinous ladies, especially GLF! Hand watering x3 daily and monitoring environment.
The end is near! This week pure water only and dry last 3 days (mostly because I kept delaying harvest decisions. Lights dimmed 50%. Defoliated. Smellier all kinds of glorious. So sticky. And sparkly. I’m happy with this grow. And I have 2 clear favourites to mother.
Everything about this plant from seed to jar has made me happy. So much so that I sacrificed a good portion of her harvest while I desperately try to regenerate her in the hope to take clones for a mother.
Her leaves had a slight gloss to them. She grew strong despite limitations of space and light. No disease, mould, pests or deficiencies. Her buds are smaller, very dense and round. She smells like fuel and lemon dessert. The piney scent was stronger when wet, now there’s hints of pastry under the lemon and fuel. She smells wonderful. She’s super sticky. Absolutely caked in trichomes. I’ve never grown something so caked up. No issues during the grow. Haven’t sampled her yet. She just went into jars and I’m giving her the respect of a minimum cure.
Harvest day & Regeneration
- harvested individual branches with a straight cut leaving a third on the main stalk
- should have capped the wounds on the stalk immediately but didn’t remember :(
- hung the individual branches to dry no trimming all fan leaves remaining in dark room with average 70f / 60% rh
- snipped off the tips off the remaining buds and dried them in a paper bag
- flushed stalk pot with half strength vegetative nutrients solution and put under 24/0 light with daily watering
- maintained drying conditions of hanging harvest for 12 days before hand trimming and jarring up for the cure
- dried bud tips and caked up trim stuffed in the freezer for edibles
- I continue to nurture the root stalk and hope to save these genetics by regeneration. I’m not seeing new growth and the fan leaves are continuing to fade but she is drinking steadily and her runoff readings are healthy so I’m not worried yet. It’s only been 12 days..
- day 14 and and GLF stalk is showing new growth, regeneration success! As soon as we can root some clones we will officially make her a mother ❤️ I’m so happy
- day 21 trimmed off all old faded fan leaves, so much new growth that we were able to take a bunch of clones from our regenerated stalk and started a new diary to get a 2nd harvest from our girl
dry flower yield: 52g (plus 25% left on the plant).. I was aiming for 65g so I’d say we met our target with this girl!
I grew 4 specimens of original lemon pie from seed and over all I’m very happy with the strain and have mothered my favourite already. This strain is a keeper and I am happy I have found my go-to daytime sativa cut.
She grows without effort and took training like a champ. Buds are dense and conical. She stretches a lot, triples her height, not bushy. Needs vertical space for a good sog and needs support. My buds were falling over from the weight.
It’s called lemon pie and the smell is most definitely citrus and pastry. So sticky and sparkling. Some of the cultivars were a bit leafy. I grew 4 clones in solo cups and 3 plants mainlined for 4 colas. Saved my favourite cultivar as a mom and culled the rest. I will be happy to fill my medicine cabinet with original lemon pie.
Harvest report:
The solo cup clones of OLP 1 were harvested whole at 8 weeks, only fan leaves stripped, hung to dry, will need to dry trim the sugar leaves.
OLP 1 was wet trimmed by hand and individual branches hung to dry.
OLP 2, OLP 3 and OLP 4 were harvested later because they were behind but I was short on patience and they were pretty leafy so we wet trimmed by bucking them immediately into the electric automatic trimmer and drying on mesh hanging racks. They still smell amazing and seems to be a decent yield. Had considered freezing for fresh frozen but wanted to try out this machine on wet. 40 minutes per plant from stalk to drying rack including clean up.
Trim trim is in the freezer. Wet trim is drying in pizza boxes.
Do you prune the roots before repotting? Heard thats actually beneficial but actually never seen someone do it...
Those are some nice Roots btw. 😸
Have a nice one Growmie.
I replanted the seedlings deeper into 500ml solo cups and increased the light intensity. They are being watered with GP3 nutrients schedule. Easy to use, clean, local brand. So far so good. Once they’ve spread their roots out wide should start to see some growth this week.
Happy growing
