GG Shorty in an unheated garage. R19 insulation wrapped 100% around. Brought the grow environment up to max cannabis intensity and it maintained there for 2 weeks before planting.
Planted 3 RQS NLA seeds in one 7 gallon fabric pot with ‘layered’ strengths of Super Soil (based on Buildasoil's mix) so that NL Auto seedlings will not be subject to any transplant shocks.
Will be growing only one plant so I intend to cull the weakest as they show themselves.
Growing great. Still have not yet culled 'the shrimp'.
Increased from 214 to 270 umol/s/m2 by end of this week.
No nutes added, just water, as soil mix is taking care of this.
Chose to LST my plant.
Will be 'amending' nursery wire length & plant attachment as needed for a week.
Considering only training to only one week to keep plant stress to a minimum.
Took accurate leaf offset temp. measurements at start of week that caused some needed changes to Controller 69 programming.
Bumped TEMP up 4° to 81°, RH down 2° to 66° & changed EXH from HUMIDITY activated to CYCLE activated (2 min on/30 min off) .
Should get VPD to 0.95 kPa, will monitor and tweak as needed...
Oh yea, Finally culled the other little seedling that popped.
It was really turning into a interesting looking miniature seedling but it was too heavily shaded and no way to get it out other than to pull it...
Water only per schedule.
Pre Flower, need to top dress as soon as practical.
1/7 Top Dress: 3 handfuls worm castings mixed in 4 Tbsp Green Grow Bloom.
1/11 Getting some 'leg' on her...
1/12 Some of upper tips started to get too much PPFD and 'browned up' a little.
Added light LST wires (to get canopy even), adjusted LED height and did a little defoliation.
1/12 Started smelling lightly.
1/14 Soil too moist - no watering today. Suspect that this stressed plant and contributed to 'browned up' upper leaf tips.
1/17 Top Dress: 4 cups Castings w/ 6 Tbsps GreenGro Pride Lands Bloom.
1/19 Bumping RH & Temp around to get VPD up to 1.3 - 1.4.
General:
Water only each day except on 14th.
Raised LED 3x to maintain 550 - 625 PPFD.
Monkeyed with cam height (plant growing out of view).
Needed height adj for temp & humidity sensor - new replacement "pole"
1/21 Slightly more smell and flower is stretching (41 cm) nicely..
1/22 raised cam, smelling delicious today, 45 cm high.
1/23 50 cm high - growing great! Defoliated lower non productive/shaded growth. Moved cam up again.
1/26 Just water in increasing increments all week.
Soil moisture dropping to 28% between watering's, Her thist is outpacing scheduled volume, will up the daily water volume.
Made some MINOR adjustments to the ACI Controller 69 Pro+ during the week to keep VPD optimal.
Also, I thought I should post some 'from the side' photos for viewing so I also did some experimenting with a cheap digital camera.
I think they turned out OK........
Smell is not increasing much if at all.
1/27 Top dressed, watered and admired today.
1/28 Watered & Light defoliation on bottom of plant for more air flow. Photo from top wouldn't load today...
1/29 Watered only today.
1/30 Watered & raised light intensity to 100% & increased LED light height,
1/31 Watered only today.
2/1 Watered only today.
2/2 Watered only today.
Continued to ramp up water volume ea. day.
'To be watered for the day' soil moisture meter reading on 2/8 indicates she's just about at her intake limit.
Been looking for my worms during grow but didn't see any till 2/9 - another indicator of soil moisture saturation & water uptake.
2/3 Water only
2/4 Water only
2/5 Water only
2/6 Water w/ molasses (1x only)
2/7 Last Bloom fertilizer top dress then water
2/8 Water only
2/9 Water only
Buds bulking nicely.
There is a different 'richer' smell to the tent at the end of the week. 😊
Target VPD for week 1.5 kPa.
Got to 1 L/day of H2O and she couldn't take it all so backed off to .9 L/day volume to keep soil in moisture range.
Buds packing nicely. Under a cm of height added
Pistils starting to get brown.
Trichomes are 98% clear. I did see a couple that were light amber...
Got a microscope adapter on the way - hopefully I'll upload some trichome pics next week.
While intensity of smell is 'normal', I'm getting a definite earthy/coffee(ish) aroma from her now.😋
Couple of more weeks or so...
Water consumption stable at 900 ml/d all week.
Lower fan leaves really yellowed up early this week. Pulled off dead leaves every day...
Slight 'purple' hue to the top fan leaves.
Tough keeping humidity as low as I want it, but don't want to run dehumidifier if I can help it.
Bud smell is not at all 'knock you out' loud.
Aroma is still 'coffeeish' but now with a hint of hemlock forest. Overall, getting a little earthier too.
I can see them bulking up by flipping between this weeks first and last similar view pics.
Looking through my loupe at trichomes, I see a little amber, less than a third are cloudy and the balance are clear.
Got microscope adapter late on last day of week11, to late to try it out.
I'm pleased as hell with my grow results so far.
Sorry, new tool, quality of Feb 24 trichomes shots due to operator inexperience😬...
I have been told that I will have amber on sugar leaves before bud bracts and that buds will amber quickly after sugar leaves get to about 30% amber - I don't know but scoping every day should let me harvest at "bud 30% amber".
I'm not much for getting real high so I decided that I will harvest when the apical bud just starts to amber up.
2/29 Observed some amber on apical & middle buds - time to chop!
Stopped watering and chop scheduled for Sat. 3/2.
3/4 catch-up
Wet bud weight is the entire plant.
will re-weigh and report when buds manicured and they go into jars.
Not real happy with quality of tricho pics from:
1. phone adapter and Microbrite Plus handheld microscope.
2. borrowed digital usb microscope.
Will have to resolve this before next flower cycle.
Initial dry & cure will be done in the GGT for 16 days.
No lights, Temp 55-60 degrees, 55-60% relative humidity, circulating fan pointed away from plant, intake/exhaust as required to maintain environment.
Manicure & jar buds.
Smoke report in a couple of weeks.
Enjoyed sharing this on growdiaries,
