Sowed three Ocean Fruit seeds in BAS light soil. Starting out in 3" plastic pots until I transplant in to the earthboxes. I have two earthboxes. One will have two plants and the other will just be one plant. Till is my second round in the earthboxes and third grow overall. First two runs were with autoflowers and it was a learning experience. After chopping my last grow, I added some cover crop to each box. I let that grow for a couple weeks before adding a top dress and smothering the cover crop with the mulch cover. Ended up with an infestation of gnat flies. Added beneficial nematodes to each box to help fight the fly population. After each seed had popped, one had some weird growth on the first set of leaves. All new growth looks good though. Also had some algae growing on top of the soil. Not too worried. Just going to let the soil dry out a little and I also sprayed some EM5 on top.

DE is not very effective with flying bugs. DE has to be dry to kill them. The bugs have to physically come into contact with it for it to kill them. Putting it on top of a substrate amounts to a muddy mess that allows very little water through, which means it'll take 30mins to water 1 pot properly. Encircling your grow area with some DE can help stop anything that crawls over it, but again.. it's a fucking mess and horrible for fan motors and such. you'll kill a duct fan if you keep spritzing that shit around. Don't vacuum it up unless you want to throw out that vacuum. it puffs up in a cloud very easily, so it's going to slowly ruin any motor that is exposed to it. Your lungs aren't fans of it either. I'd wager 1M USD on a bet taht DE vs bti with an ongoing infestation, because it is a foregone conclusion. 99-100% of the infestation would be gone within 1 life cycle or about 3 weeks with Bti. DE isn't even going too put a noticeable dent in the population in 3 weeks. Side bet -- 1 Sticky trap would catch more adult gnats than any amount of DE strewn around your floor or on your pots.. making a fucking mess and doing very little. FWIW, neither a sticky traps or de is going to be effective against an infestation nor stop one from escalating. A sticky trap will however speed up the process. Really isn't rocket science to see why it helps, Bti prevents larvea from surviving and traps kill adults thet already matured before you put bti down. Otherwise you have to wait for the adult gnats to naturally die.. why add a week or 2 when you don't have to?

Not much going on this week. Seedlings have shown some decent growth over the past 7 days. I have just been lightly top watering everyday with plain water. The fungas gnat issue has gotten better. About 14 days ago I introduced beneficial nematodes to the soil in the earthboxes. I may do another round of nematodes or add in some predator mites and/or rove beetles in the next week.

Not a whole lot did to the plants this week. I think I need to transplant in the next day or two. Plants seem to be getting hungry or just too big for the 3in nursery pots. Have only been giving plain water so far. First plant always seems to be either underwaterd or over watered. Third one is getting some fading in the lowers. I think both would benefit from a transplant right now. As far as the fungas gnat issue, I have only seen a couple fliers and maybe a few running around in the earthboxes when I lift the mulch cover. Still might add some more nematodes. Next update they should be in the earthboxes and have had their first top dress.

A lot more going on this week. The day before transplant, I did do a foliar spray with some EM5, Aloe and Jay Plantspeaker. Wanted them to be as healthy as can be before transplanting. Ended up transplanting the next day. All roots looked good and was not root bound. I also did not add any water when transplanting as the boxes were pretty moist still. Top dressed with about 1/2 cup craft blend. Granly Barley and sprinkled some Kashi blend on top of all that. This was per plant, so the one with two got about double that. The next day was noticing droopy leaves on the two box. Pretty sure is from the overwatering. Also getting some purple streaks on the stems. A couple days later and plants have rebounded and shown some good growth. Watered in some rootwise mycrobe completed to make sure the micros were going. Only about 1/8 gallon per box. Still want to wait on bottom watering a couple more days. Also might top some of the plants. This is my first Photoperiod grow and kind of want to experiment a little.

A somewhat busy week in the tent. Plants have at least tripled in size since the transplant and were looking healthy. I did see a little tip burn and some light green on the edges of some leaves. So I decided to do a foliar spray of some Big 6 Micros and Aminos along with my weekly IPM of EM5 and Aloe foliar spray. I also decided to super crop the main stem towards the top to get some light to some of the lowers. This was my first time trying this and I did crack the stem a little on two of them. The next day all all three were back to reaching. So I must have done a decent job. Some of the larger fan leaves covering the lowers were also removed. Maybe 3-4 in total. Worms were added to each box as I didn't see any when I transplanted and the top dress I did is taking forever to breakdown. Some Buildaflower top dress was added at this time to help break the food down. I got some Grow-Cal from Growing Organic to test out with a foliar and see if that will fix the tip burn or whatever deficiency I might be having. The plants have been looking great since everything I threw at it this week. This is why I like growing organically and the Buildasoil way. Everything is so gentle and it's hard to overdue it. I think the issue was maybe lockout from being two wet as I did start bottom watering with about a gallon at a time. So everything was just probably more beneficial to the health of the plant. The trellis was also set up. I want to get all three to that height and start filling it out. Once I get to that point I will flip to flower. I'm thinking two more weeks. I have been wanting to start a worm bin for a while now and I finally got around to it this week. Hopefully I can get some great castings out of it. If anyone one has any tips, feel free to share.

This week I started to do a little prep for flower. I plan on flipping in about 7-10 days. Plants look pretty healthy right now. I Lollipoped each plant and added a top dressing of craft blend, gnarly barley, buildabloom, buildaflower and some Kashi Bloom. I also continue to super crop some of the taller branches to get an even canopy and expose some of the lowers. Keeping the environment what I want it at this week has been a struggle. Midwest winters are no joke. Lowered my temp a couple degrees cause my heater was running stop and I was noticing some heat stress.

This will be the last week of veg. Flipping to flower tomorrow. Not much was done this week besides filling the earthboxes up with water and I also an IPM foliar spray with em5 and some aloe. I continued to fill out the trellis by spreading out branches, some super cropping and tucking the branches. These girls have had a ton of growth since the Lollipop. I find myself removing 3-5 big fan leaves a day that are covering up some of the lowers.

First week of flower is done. Everything is going great and plants look fantastic. Pretty easy first week if flower. After flipping, I turned the lights up to about 900-1000 par. Want to keep it to the lower side. Definitely wanting quality over quantity for this strain. Heard it is 🔥. Also lowered humidity to around 63%. Going to wait till week 2 for next top dress. Want to make sure I don't get far behind on food for the girls. I did top water with some buildabloom, rootwise biophos, and Big 6 Micros when the reservoirs where empty and waited to fill the next day. For plant training, I have just continued to weave through trellis and some super cropping. I did have two breaks on one plant while super cropping. One was the main stem. Broke off about 6 inches. That one girl was starting to feel more stiff and is stretching a lot more than the other two. So I want be HST that one anymore. I will also set up a another level of trellis next week. Canopy is looking pretty good and somewhat flat. I have started getting a little smell coming off the stems. Reminds me of the Mango Sculpin from Ballest Point Brewery. Great super light and crisp sweet smell.

Two weeks into flowering and the girls are doing great. All three have been stretching differently so it's been a little bit of a process keeping the canopy even, but it is coming along pretty good. Environment hasn't really changed. Been trying to keep humidity around 58%-62%. Typically when the lights come on and they're drinking more I am at around 66%. Did a top dressing at the beginning of the week with craft blend, gnarly barley, Kashi Bloom and Colorado Worm Castings. I also did a top watering when both reservoirs were dry with Buildabloom, Big 6 Micro Nutrients and Rootwise Biophos. There girls are pretty much on autopilot in the earthboxes. Just got to keep ahead on the feedings. Might do one more top dress in the next couple of weeks.

Week 3 of flower is done. Really starting to stack on now. The earthbox with one plant is a little behind the other two, but is still looking good. Not a whole lot to do anymore. I did top dress with some craft blend, gnarly barley and Kashi Bloom. Probably be the last top dress for this grow. I will still continue to top water with some goodies every week or so when the reservoirs are dry.

Another week down. Not a whole lot done this week. I did do a light top dress of Gnarly Barley and Kashi Bloom. Might be the last top dressing. The girls stopped stretching at the start of the week and are pretty much on autopilot now. Starting to get some great fruity smells in the tent and the plants are starting to get frost almost everywhere.

Girls are just staking and putting on weight right now. I am done with top dressing as I probably have 3-4 weeks left. I did top water again with some goodies. Might give one more top watering next week. Other than that, not a whole lot left to do besides adding water to the reservoirs.

Week 6 is in the books. Nothing really left to do besides keep the environment in check and watering. No more top dressing or other nutrients. Strain is supposed to take 56-63 days. I am thinking I will at least go until day 63.

Week 7 of flower. Just continuing to add water when empty. Buds are starting to swell and add some weight. Not much else to do at this point. Will probably scope some trichomes at the end of week 8.

Just riding through this last couple weeks. Adding water when the eathbox reservoirs are empty and that's it. I did just scope the trichomes. Looking at least another week or 2.

Looking amazing! Last harvest my plants slowed their earthbox drinking in what was last their days. I think I was doing a daily fill of 2 gallons, and then they just turned it down and slowed so I knew it was time, chopped after a couple days to confirm. Keep her growing!

@@A_Stoned_Llama, thank you! I am only giving one gallon right now whenever the reservoirs are empty.

Looking good. I'm adding 3 to 4 liters of water every 2 days with the earth boxes I'm running, water over the top with 4 liters brewed tea once a week. How much water do you use?
PartTimeUnicorn
PartTimeUnicorncommenteda year ago
@burnout, right now in stretch I am putting about 2 gallons in every other day when the reservoirs are dry. Then about a 1/4 gallon top water with some goodies every other week. But only when the reservoirs are dry and I wait till the next day to add water to the bottom.

@Happy_Roots, thanks! I haven't used any fermented plant extracts yet. In earthboxes and I don't do much top watering and kind of nervous about putting it in the bottom. Just started doing the Buildasoil way and it is crazy easy!
