Germination
12/26-Soaked overnight in water
12/27-Placed in paper towel in covered container
12/28-Root emerges...placed directly in Coco Coir in airpot soaked with very light nutes. Temp 77 and humidity 67%. Lights at 24 inches and PPfd 300. Lights on 24 hours to start.
12/30-Seedling breaks ground
Week #1-Dec 31 to Jan 6
1/2-Off to a good start.
1/4-Upped the nutes a bit.
1/5-Seedling continues to progress nicely with no issues so far. Watered the whole airpot around the plant to runoff. No adverse affects visible from upping the nute load.
1/6-First week went well. Compares well with my last Mango Smile grow which got a big yield and high THC content. Let's hope this one does as well.
Week #2-Jan 7 to Jan 13
1/9-Watered today. Plant is progressing nicely. I'll likely increase the nutes a bit on the next watering. So far so good.
1/12-Watered to runoff. She is right on track for another good run I think.
1/13-No adverse reaction from increased nutes. In fact it looks even greener and stronger. Starting 4th node now. The plan is to FIM between the 4 & 5 nodes which will probably happen in the next 1-2 days. Looking forward to week 3.
Week #2-Jan 14 to Jan 20
1/15-FIM today.
1/16-No adverse effect from FIMming observed after one day. Plant has got good color and leaves are full and growing fast. Watered to runoff in the evening.
1/17-Growth is already starting at FIM site and the plant is showing no adverse effects.
1/18-The area at the FIM cut is growing quick and looks to be adding at least 4 new cola sites. Cut Node #1 from the bottom.
1/19-watered to runoff. Started LST. Plant is doing great. The FIM site is growing out with no issues and for sure will get some extra yield.
1/20-Trimmed node 3. First 3 weeks of veg have gone very well. Plant handled the FIM with ease. This next week I'll start to do some LST to encourage a wide even canopy for flowering.
Week #4-Jan 21 to Jan 27
1/21-Watered to runoff last night (1/20). She is starting to drink up the water now. Looking very healthy and on track for another good grow. I'll increase the LST this week and do a trim before preflower.
1/22-Watered to runoff. Trimmed two lower leaves. I'll wait a couple of more days to do a trim and more LST before preflower. She's up to 6 inches now and looking very healthy.
1/23-Clipped some fan leaves to get more light. More LST to encourage some width on the canopy. She's really starting to drink up the water now. Watered last evening to runoff and she's already to 50% dryback 12 hours later.
1/25-Watered again to runoff using almost a half gallon. She's starting to get a bit taller now which is making the LST a bit easier. I can't believe how much growth is coming from FIM area. She is really responding well from the LST and is starting to take on the umbrella like canopy. Finally, I'm beginning to see the earliest hints of preflower.
1/27-The first 4 weeks have gone well. She's up to 9 inches now. The lowest branches are starting to stretch sideways from LST. She showed no ill effects from FIM, LST, or increased nute load. Leaves are green as green with not a spot of discoloration. Must be a Mango Smile! Next week I'll switch to flowering nute schedule.
Week #4-Jan 28 to Feb 3
1/30-Switched over to Bloom nutes. Did a trim a couple of days ago prior to preflower. Lots of LST now to widen the canopy before she really starts to stretch. She's at 10 inches now.
2/1-Preflower is in full force now. No adverse effects from increased nute load so I'll continue to increase. She's starting to suck up the water now.
2/3-Good week of progress and growth.
Week #5-Feb 4 to Feb 10
2/4-Looking for a great week of growth. She's up to 14 inches now. More and more bud sites are emerging. This Mango Smile girl just wants to GO!
2/6- She's really sucking up the water now...nearly a gallon a day. Plant looks healthy and hearty. Trimmed a few inner leaves to encourage light to the middle. The lower branches which have been tied down to encourage a wider canopy have reached the rim of the pot and are starting to turn skyward. Once that happens in earnest I'll likely insert some stakes and tie the big branches to keep them growing out and up.
2/8-Moved her into the big tent. Up to 15 inches now. Bud sites are really starting to develop. Continuing LST to encourage wide canopy. Upped the nute load. So far she's right on track.
2/10-Solid week of growth. Expecting her to really start stretching in the next week.
Week #5-Feb 11 to Feb 17
2/14-Did some defoliation and more LST to get the canopy open. Using four support sticks. Plant is stretching. Now up to 18 inches. First signs of trichomes emerging.
2/17-Good solid week of bud development. This is the 3rd time I've grown Mango Smile and this plant is definitely the shortest of the 3. She seems stuck on 18 inches which is nearly a foot less than the previous ones. Other than her height she seems very healthy.
Week #6-Feb 18 to Feb 24
2/18-Did some minor defoliation
2/20-She is looking very healthy and the buds are shaping up nicely. But this Mango Smile is alot more squat and short than my previous MS grows. Alot shorter. Almost makes me wonder if somehow the wrong seed got into the mix. She seems to have stopped stretching at 18 inches which is nearly half the height of previous grows. Go figure.
2/24-Solid week of bud development.
Week #10-Mar 3 to Mar 9
3/5-Buds are really starting to fatten up and are sticky with sweet smelling resin.
3/9-Solid week of bud development. Buds have gotten very dense, frosty, and sticky. My last MS grow netted damn near 7 ounces dry and was twice as tall as this one. Even though this Mango Smile plant is half the size of my last grow the big colas are ridiculously fat which makes predicting a final yield tough. I'm hoping that I can get at least 4 ounces dry weight. My last grow harvested on Day 72. Based on a day to day comparison of my last grow at 70 days this grow looks to be a week to 10 days behind that schedule. There are still quite a few white pistils that have not turned orange and the buds have not fully tightened up. The microscope photos show the trichomes are cloudy but not turning amber just yet. Based on what I'm seeing I think she'll be ready for flushing in 3-5 days and harvest 4-5 days later. Let's see how we do.
Week #11-Mar 10 to Mar 16
3/11-Trichomes are starting to turn amber across all the top buds. I'll start the flush today and look to chop in 5 days
3/12-Lots more amber trichomes in the last 24 hours! Did a little pre-trim on the bud sites in anticpation of harvest.
3/14-Very close now
Chopped her down on Day 75. This one did not grow as tall as my previous 2 Mango Smile grows and the yield won't be as big. But the buds are spectacular and I can't wait to see how she tests and tastes.
