Going totally organic. Looking forward to lessons. This week, I started the seeds with the light too high, set at 18". The seedlings went leggy so I buried the stem half way and lowered the light. I also improved airflow in the tent. They seem to be settling now.

Plants responded well to treatment for leggy starts. Added a small dish with a cloth draped in water to wick moisture into the atmosphere of the tent and dropped the fan speed of the exhaust fan to help raise humidity.

Big week! Started off the week by adding some raw cane molasses to the soil, to get ready for a compost tea next week. Next, half way through the week, we added some particularly stinky blood and bone meal mix. The plants are responding well and are still happy under the 300W. Before the blood / bone meal, the plant was already letting off some kushy fumes. Looking forward to another week of growth!

Raised up the light to 29" and fed the girls a healthy compost tea from a 3 year old compost heap in the backyard. Added oats, bone meal and blood meal to the tea and steeped it for 24 hours. Lots of growth and they're looking green and healthy. Started LST this week too and tied down the first bend - tucked some leaves and watered with rain water.

Grow Questions

I started the light off close to the plants and have been raising it up as they grow to prevent light burn - is that the general idea or am I doing it backwards?

This is indeed the general idea and you are correct in your assumption my friend. Cannabis plants want three things from their light. High concentrations of PPFD in the range of 1500 - 2000 PPFD, Relatively stable heat from the light source around 70 - 80 degrees Fahrenheit and light in the correct spectrum for the stage of growing that they are in which means more blue and white light during vegetation with a small amount of red spectrum mixed in and then more red spectrum with some blue and white spectrum mixed in for flowering. Depending on the light source that you choose to use you would want to keep your light as close as 12 inches from the plants if you are working with low powered and low temperature LED's to up to three feet from the plants if the light source is incredibly powerful such as HPS and HID's. Measuring the amount of light using a PPFD meter and measuring the temperature of the top of your growth canopy can give you a good indication of when you should be moving your light upwards or even possibly lowering your light closer to your plants. I hope I've helped my friend. Cheers.

Gave the ladies some banana tea by chopping up a big handful of banana peels, boiling them with a couple teaspoons of molasses and filtering the material out before letting it cool to room temperature. Added another light this week too! No flowering yet - this has me scratching my head. Just going to keep on swimming and wait for those wonderful little white hairs.

Finally popped some pistols! Fed lots of water - they get droopy even after one missed day. Seeing a little purple on the leaf stems - going to add a little Epson Salt on next watering. Gave another Banana Tea mixture to hopefully help with some nutrition for flowering.

Just watered this week - added a little fish emulsion this morning, which is technically 'next' week to hopefully bump up the microbes in the soil a bit. Leaf tips are yellowing a little - have to wonder if they're getting light burned a little. Otherwise healthy, happy and THIRSTY. Leaves are drooping a little after only 20 hours or so. Above all else, this strain is SLOW. Looks like we'll be January at this rate to chop. I'll run this one outdoor in the summer and just let it go as big as it wants.

Whoa - a scare this week! Right at the start of the week, a bunch of leaves rapidly started turning yellow. See the comments and diagnosis here; https://old.reddit.com/r/microgrowery/comments/a7aq6k/another_help_me_thread_light_burn_deficiency/ So, I had been leaving the run off in the tray to increase humidity. I think that was causing some over-watering symptoms. I drained that water out, didn't water for two days and, when I finally did water again, I added a little Pro-Mix Tomato Bloom to the water to feed some Nitrogen. Everything has bounced back very nicely since.

Steady growth this week. More ProMix to eat for the ladies - next grow, I'll be getting some organic Canadian nutes. Some leaf damage from the PH change when I switched from rain water to tap water but otherwise happy and healthy. Loooooong grow cycle, but easily my best harvest to date. Probably let them go another week, maybe two. One plant is a week behind - all the seeds went in the soil at the same time but one sprouted 6 days later. Don't know what that will mean for harvest. Should I wait until they're all done at the same time and chop or chop the finished ones? I don't think a week will make much difference.

Water and more pro-mix. Going to grab some Reefertilizer for next run! Oh Canada! Plants are happy, if a little dry - hard to keep the humidity up. I'll grab a little portable humidifier for next run, too. Seem to be putting on nice weight and easily the biggest I've grown yet. Trichomes on 2 are only 10% cloudy - if that. Probably another week, maybe two. The biggest of the three has two more weeks at least.

Yet... Another... Week. These have to be the slowest autos ever! I've defoliated two out of three of the plants. They're right on the fence for ripeness after an inspection with the loupe. I'll check again today with a new set of eyes and judge whether it's time to cut them or just leave them for one more week. The third one is still flowering and received it's own dose of ProMix while the others just had water. The tent is *really* smelly now and all three have put on some good weight. The third and final - who sprouted nearly 8 days later than the other two - is the largest by far. Will check in again next week to report on whether I cut these two down or not yet.

Continued the flower cycle right up until last night. Trichomes were cloudy up to about 80% or so. This will easily be the largest plant I've grown with two huge colas. I'll leave it in the tent for about 5 days to dry out. Then I'll weigh it out off the stem and add it to the total. Next up - Pineapple Express by @Fastbuds!

Awesome pipe bud - very smooth smoke and definitely the most potent I've grown. Close to something I would find in a dispensary. Tastes great, smells very pungent and doesn't trigger any dramatic coughing fits. Smells very fruity when ground.

Ran into a few issues and learned a ton from this grow. Hit my marker for goal weight on one plant - 1.7oz from the last one to finish. Next goal is set at 2oz for a single plant. An awesome hobby and thrilled to be a part of the community here. Big ups to @ValhallasGarden and @Smowkabowl. Looking forward to the next run and learning more about LST.

@cabinriver, cool, being proactive is a good thing. I have found, very quickly, I might add, that you have to think at least 2 weeks ahead when gardening organically or in soil. Happy growing. Peace.

@Smowkabowl, since I'm not sure if it's genetics (not a lot of info on this breeder) or a growth problem, I'll put a marginal amount in - likely 3/4 tsp per gallon.

Congrats on the harvest. The 3rd girl looks great and looks like a nice yield coming on that one too. My 1st yield was 21 gm of WestCoast OG (yummy), then 40 gm avg/plant on the next three. I'm hoping to improve on those yields and avg. about 54 gms/plant on this grow. One way we can both increase yields is having a better view of the trichomes and let the plants grow as long as possible before harvest. I ditched the jewelers loupe for a digital microscope with wifi/blue tooth for about $45. No more guessing because I shake to much, I know immediately if I got amber or not. Peace

Looks good. We averaged the same on our first grows. Mine came in at 40 g/plant. Our goal for the next grow is the same too, 2 oz/plant. Good luck and happy gardening. BTW, I don't know how well your Raw molasses helped or what it cost but I use brown sugar (it's made with molasses) and it cost a $1.50 or so a bag. I use it to feed the microbes. Peace

You checked trichs with a jewellers loupe or magnifying glass for these girls yet? I’m gonna guess another 2 weeks maybe more based on photos. Def. leave the late bloomer a week longer. As far as the yellowing leaf issue is concerned - if you’re just topping up your soil with more promix my guess would be that she’s simply just run out the remaining nute properties in the medium and there’s no way your catching up with it at this point. I hesitate to diagnose ph issues in soil because soil tends to be very forgiving with ph. I run my outdoors on rain and tap water and I don’t even bother to check ph half the time. Indoors though - I would be checking and adjusting ph every time. I’d actually suggest you check my cheese grow around the same weeks of flower as this one. If your plants are looking anything like that then I could be right here. I ran that grow out on no nutes at all and only promix and compost. She struggled through the entire last month of flower and didn’t yield nearly what she could’ve with a little more help. Good experiment but sad knowing what could’ve been achieved😔. Lol! Good luck with it regardless dude and hoping for a quality finish👍👊

cabinrivercommented6 years ago
@TheBudWhisperer, yeah, I've got a loupe - I haven't even checked yet. Probably start checking mid next week. Yeah, I'll be grabbing some organic nutes for next time. Not entirely lost on the harvest just yet, I'll bet (from an eyeball) I get a decent yield. Thanks for stopping in, I'll check your cheese grow for sure.
