Issue 2 passed here in Ohio and I wanted to get started right away. Very little previous experience on my own, but had been already busy all fall getting my outside garden going so I had some supplies but not much compared to some of you absolute Chad pros. Went to my local head shop I had been going to since I was about 15, roughly 30 years ago, and got the cheapest Fem seeds they had. I wanted to stay away from autos because I wanted more control I guess. This is how I found Royal Queen seeds. Sour Diesel was the cheapest 3 pack they had. Sativa dominant too so I was all about it. Later I would find out that RQS is quite reputable and I was definitely getting pumped. Started in a paper towel. Only took a couple days and I felt the taproot was getting a little big so I dibbed them into these seed trays with 2 parts All purpose Miracle Grow and 1 part coffee grounds. Absolutely winging it.
Seed starter trays with a mix of 2 parts all purpose Miracle Grow and 1 part coffee grounds. We just passed issue 2 here in Ohio at this time and I am kind of winging it. I am documenting this mostly so I can learn from my successes/failures so we will see how it goes. Light is a cheap 30W LED from JCBritw I got as a gift. At this point I was manually turning on at 7am and turning off at 1am. Small closet, no fan or humidifier. Born on Christmas (seedling broke ground) 12/25/23 and I'm not sure if we are now technically in veg or germ so I will just call this week one of veg. I named them starting with Lily the tallest, Lucy the middle and Rachie the shortest. Rachie broke through with a bit of "helmet head" from the seed hull and a little curled up and noticably shorter than the other 2.
More of the same. Getting quite tall. Not sure if it was all the nitrogen from the coffee grounds or what but I was getting a little worried that they were stretching too much. Very vigorous. On 1/4/24 I potted them. Too early for sure as the roots did not hold the starter plug medium anywhere near what I wanted but, they were getting too tall and I wanted to bury them to try to shorten up the main stalks and equalize their height. Worked fine and they kept growing without even a wince. I would blow on them and I could see the leaves flexing upwards. I was in love.
1/8/24 - I received a 100W light from a friend but I am waiting for an adapter for the plug from Amazon. It was supposed to arrive today (1/8/24) but was delayed. Not too worried about it because the current light is pretty gentle. I would have definitely switched lights today if I could but I can't, and I am not too worried about it as long as it comes soon. I did receive my Captain Jack's Neem Oil spray and immediately gave the 1st treatment. For the soil I used a homemade compost for my garden that consists of cardboard, grass clippings, kitchen waste (no meat) and chicken manure. It had been composting for a couple months but many mites were visible and they made me furious. Neem oil should do the trick. I should have known that my soil would be teeming with parasites but it never occurred to me. I have not seen a single critter on the plants themselves, but I don't want to either. Still spooning the daily water directly around the roots. Watching their daily growth, along with their namesakes is a blessing. I will destroy whatever tries to hinder or harm them. Oh and I found a cool mist humidifier in the attic so I put that in there with them. I will have to manually turn it on for a few hours a day as it is quite overpowered for the tiny closet.
1/9/24 - Amazon delayed the adapter for my light again. Estimating the 12th now. Starting to get pissed because I feel that my current light is ass, and these should be growing faster. :(
1/12.24 - Got the adapter. Found out light i had was 100w not 30w and I had it way too close. Burned the smaller 2. Now 200w but much higher.
1/15/24 - Rachie and Lucy recovering from light burn very well. Topped Lily today as she has been the strongest so far. Lily had growth from all 6 node locations. Nearly perfectly symmetrical.
1/18/24 - Topped Lucy and Rachie. Tons of new growth on Lily's new branches.
1/31/24 - Plants now 8"-11". Lily was pruned with 4 main tops in mind, Lucy with 3 and Rachie with 2.
Alternating nodes showing stigma on Lily standing at 10".
Lucy is taller at 3 main branches, but no female parts so far.
Rachie is short and bushy at 8", with offshoots coming from her main 2 tops.
There is another plant not included with this diary in the upper left area, it's an OG Kush RQS and seems happy with the others.
2/6/24 - The biggest has started flowering already. Not sure what to do. I might just transplant all to larger grow bags later this week and then flip to flower the following week.
2/14/24 -
Well the largest of the 3 is in full bloom so what I thought was just the plant showing it's sex is likely due to being a rogue autoflower in my 3 pack of feminized seeds.
Having some discoloration issues. Going to test the ph in the soil and try to adjust. Also have some nutrient supplements if needed.
Lily 17" Definitely a rogue autoflower. No other explanation I can think of Hopefully I can fix whatever is up with the leaves.
Lucy 13" Showing Pistils Likely a rogue autoflower as well.
Rachie 9" Very short and bushy. I split the main stalk by accident while training. Hopefully she heals. Going to leave in the small pot as a sort of experiment.
If they aren't all flowering on their own I am going to flip to 12/12 regardless as the OG Kush I have in the room is doing extremely well, and from a different batch of seeds so it should be a photo/feminizied.
2./26/24
Almost a week on 12/12 for all. The auto probably hasn't noticed the change.
Lily - 17" Couple more weeks of flower I assume. Will do one more week of Tiger Bloom then start flush.
Lucy - 25" Has really stretched. I have all the others on books to keep canopy even. Started defoliating the lower. Has shown more pistils. Hopefully this week we start producing flowers and quit growing taller.
Rachie - 15" Has stretched some but still bushy. Removed some lower growth. Going for 2 main colas on this one.
3/5/24 - Continuing Tiger Bloom feed. Lucy and the other OG Kush in this closet have really stretched out of control. Good flower growth though. The rogue autoflower, Lily is doing great. Her finishing will actually free up some space. Running out of books to stack on... Note to self, 7 weeks veg is too much for this closet. Will try to keep em much shorter in the future.
Lily - 17"
Rachie - 18"
Lucy - 35"
Lily 17.5"
Rachie 21.5"
Lucy 39.5"
Since I'm not sure what the rogue autoflower Lily really is, or what to expect for a flowering time I am just watching trichomes. Looks like they are getting mostly milky at this point but no obvious patches of amber. Other than that I am feeding CalMag this week, then back to Tiger Bloom.
3/16/24 - Chopped Lily. Tied the tall ones over so they could bend under the light better. Rachie right in the middle. Will update with pics Tues.
Chopped Lily the auto on 3/16/24. After 1 day of hanging the whole plant I chopped each branch and continued hanging in my closet. 51%RH at 70F. On day 2 I had 51 grams.
Rachie is now in the middle and flowering nicely. Obscured in this weeks pics due to my trellis hell I am in with the other 2.
Lucy is tall as ever but I now had room to tie her over and get her back under the light. I am at my upper limit with the way my lights are hung so this was my solution.
The plant on the left in the pics is an OG Kush that got way too tall as well. Got this one tied down and back under the lights as well. I defoliated a lot after these pics were taken. I'll get more individual shots next week.
Lily 3/21/24 - Final trim. 18.5 grams. Now curing in a jar with Boveda 62% and burping several times a day.
No more nutrients. Per RQS these should have 2 more weeks. Lucy is not doing great. I attribute this to the small pot (which is several inches of river stone in the bottom) and the fact that I let it get too big before flower. Nevertheless I will see it through and use her for hash at the very least. Rachie is doing great. Small pot but she has always been shorter and bushier. With only 2 main colas and her short stature she is doing great in her small pot. For my first grow I have learned so much and will be much more prepared for my next run. I just got a bunch of seeds from Barney's and have started an outdoor grow of some Ice Cream Cake. Still deciding what will go in the closet next but I can't wait to start.
Lily has finished curing and smokes really nicely. I will do a follow up when this run is over and I post the harvests.
4/12/24 Chopped Lucy
4/23/24 Discoloration in top buds is worrying me so I chopped the last plant. Per RQS this may be a week or two early but I am seeing a lot of milky trichomes. Would rather pull it now then end up with bud rot or something. Lower buds look excellent. Will follow up and wrap up this grow in about a week after drying and some curing.
4/27/24 Final weights :
Rachie 18 g
Lily 18 g
Lucy -
EDIT 6.24.25 - Will never use RQS again. I switched to Barney's and I will never look back. I had a seed from the RQS pack go auto in the middle of my grow and threw everything out of whack. When I asked the rep what he thought the issue was in my comment section, he said something to the effect of "PM me and I'll take care of it. When I PM'd him he basically told me to not put RQS on blast and just call the 1-800 number. Like bro, you can't even tell me what you think might have happened? Do seeds sometimes do this on their own? Was there a mix up? A "sorry for your inconvenience" bro? Nothing just hey, don't be commenting at me about it just call the number. Barney's customer service has been out of this world. Of course it's a better product as well. No issues so far and everything is exactly what was on the package.
