1st Grow - Nute burned at week 3. Royal Gorilla, Cookies Gelato, Critical and a Hulkberry auto.
I soak my seeds in dark cup of RO water in a warm spot for 24-48 hours till I get a small tap root. Then I take my pre-soaked rock wool cubes and slice them in half and carefully place the cracked seed in between tap root down. Then I put them right in the DWC bucket and hand water for a few days.
Started off good the first week. I did a lot of changes, learning, and evolving along the way. I started using the top ring drip system, but then yanked them all off and just doubled each buckets airstone instead.
DWC Setup
Water Source:
(RO) water
Things were going good around week 2.. This was before I decided to jack up the nutes to 300ppm! Not sure why I did this but I learned fast. As the next few weeks were bad. I stunted them good with 300ppm nutes to seedlings.
Added a airpump / airstones to the res bucket. I opened it one day and it smelled funky. I thought to myself I need to aerate this res water ASAP. I dumped the res and whole system around this point.
I also noticed I had to clean out lava rock dust from all the buckets. Apparently I didn't wash the rock off good enough at first.
Oh boy.. This is where things got fun. I got drunk and read something online, next you know I'm adding 300ppm nutes to my 2 week old babies. I burned the crap out of them.
The next 2-3weeks they slowed and some stunted. They Hulkberry auto didn't seem to care as much. But it did turn yellow.
I quickly realized my mistake and 2 days later I dumped the whole system and started it back all fresh to 50ppm. The damage was still already done and lesson was learned.
I cut some of the dead stuff off as they slowly came back to life over the next 2 weeks.
Just stunted and burned for the next 2 weeks.
I just worked on the tent setup and stuff while they recovered. Added some white plastic to cover the pots.
Added a surveillance cam with nightvision in the tent so I could check in on the girls when I not home.
Also added a wifi Temp/Humidity monitor and wifi power strip that monitors energy use watts.. These little wifi gadgets help a lot.
Week 5 is when things started to look better.. They had really slowed down though after the nute burn incident.
Added Hydroguard.
I was using a small amount of bleach before buying the Hydroguard. I think bleach also messed them up along the way since I added to much.
Nov 26- Dec 3
This is when they start to fully cover from my learning curve.
I running about 150ppm around this time. PH 5.7, and water temps are about 60degrees. It's stays pretty cold in my kitchen.
Getting some roots in the buckets.
Dec 30th-Jan 7th
First week of 12/12 !
Everything going great at this point. I have been just topping off the when it gets almost empty. I use gravity to lift and lower the res to mix and or drain the nutes out of the whole system.
I started doing lots of trimming. Things getting out of hand. So much growth. I snapped some tops over on the Hulkberry and Critical but the were back upright the next day lol.
Both the Hulkberry Auto and the Critical were getting really tall.
Jan 10-15th
Hulkberry Auto steals the show this week. What a pleasure to grow. Stinky too.
I took them out of the tent to take pics and to put the tall plants adjacent to each other. Having two tall plants on one side made it hard to trim.
Everything is flowering at this point.
Nute mix is 700ppm - I top off the res to 1000ppm and mix that in with the whole system mix around every couple days. That seems to balance everything out to about 600-700 ppms
Also adding a dash of Ph Up to every topoff remix to get ppm back up to 5.8ish
Here I am today..
I yanked the carbon scrubbing filter off 2 weeks ago to help with airflow. I just let the stink flow outside. Don't need to filter it since it's now legal where I live now, and my neighbor does the same.
Stunting my plants back at around week 2 with 300ppm set them back 2-3 weeks, but it also taught me a lot.
I plan on doing all autoflower seeds next run to make my grow more streamlined. I already have the seeds.
I thought about setting up a separate veg/clone chamber but I just don't have the room. My apartment is tiny.
What a fun hobby. One of the funniest hobbies I have for sure.
I like this DWC setup I have in my kitchen next to the sink. It's easy to fill/drain the system and store all the nutes in the cabinets.
Takes 1 hour to make 5 gallons of RO water with this undersink ebay RO system I bought. I have city tap water that tests at 60ppm. Which is pretty low ppm, but I still don't drink it, I don't even give it to my dog.
I going to work on bettering my diary skills. Better pictures and more details.
Writing and documenting this will help my future grows.
I topped her early and got 4 main colas. I flowered it for over 80 days. Cool looking plant. I burned her hard early, but she she recovered after 2 weeks. I trimmed most everything else and just let it focus on the main colas. I used Jacks 321, and added some Kelp, Fulvic, Humic ,Amino Acid, bacillus mix. I added some KoolBloom in the last weeks. I ended up with 60 dry grams of big candy/cookie tasting nugs. Most buds are a gram each. I'm satisfied.

Wow what a strain. Grew into an absolute gorilla. I ended up with a whooping (148g) 5.25 dry ounces off of one plant! That's from one single plant in a 5 gal dwc bucket. This stuff hits hard too. Very pungent gluey smoke. Very happy with it. Would grow again.
My first new grow in over 20 years. I used ChatGPT a lot on this grow to get myself back in the game.
What a pleasure to grow. (Edit) I ended up with 5.25 ounces of dry bud from this one plant. Insane.
The buds are so huge and dense! Some buds got so heavy that their stems broke over in the last few weeks. I just let them hang.
Very pungent, gassy, gluey smell.

I messed up and abused this plant early on with over 400ppm for a few days when it was 2 weeks old. But it recovered and came back to life after 2 weeks. It took 83 days to flower. I vegged it for over 2 months.
I seriously can't believe how huge these buds are. It's unreal. I going to have to cut then up to fit in my mason jars.
Very pungent distinct gorilla gluey smell.
Great strain. Great breeder. Having great success with Royal Queen Seeds!
Im pretty sure that 300ppm wont burn cannabis plant. I start my seedlings at 350 to 450 without any burn. Near 450 might get some stunth grow if light feeder strain.
@Hattiwatti, Well in my case. In DWC with RO water, it will. I stupidly put my ppms at 400 and it almost killed all my plants. It took them two weeks to recover. I will never do that again. Less is more. The critical strain ended up hermieing on a branch in the back and spread seeds in my tent. Mostly to itself. But I have found a few fat ripe seeds in my other strains. I also had night temps at 55F for a few weeks and a light leak I didn't know about.
Nice grow matey indeed, hydroponics is king, no doubt. Quick question, you stated that you grew 20 years ago, not many autos back then if any, cant remember myself any on CW when I joined in 2001.
In your opinion, can you taste the ruderalis genetics in the Hulkberry? Asking hence I have grown 3 auto strains now and I find that the taste is negatively influenced by it
