Growing 2 strains, w/ Lemon Jeffery as backup.

Objective -
- Find keepers in each strain (track and b/u w/ clones each grown plant)
- Double Top, No Lowers except as Clones
- Don’t Rush / Don’t Slack (Harder than it seemed this transition!)
Grow Plan
- Scarlet Begonias and Purple Heart from Seed. Lemon Jeffery as Backup Plants.
- SOP: Soak/ShopTowels/RootRiots/1L Propagation Cell
- 15 Plants in Total
- 15 or less of Seedlings
- LJ Cuts rooted
- On Start Day
- Seed, Soak, Shop Towels, Container, Seedling Mat (~85°F), Low Light
- Take 6 cuts, 4 for potential grow (males or germination failures), and 2 for Unblock
- Grow out plants per SOP for Double Top SOG, two healthy lowers per plant for preservation cuts
- Grow each to 6 nodes, top (down) to node four (1-3 Remanning)
- Supercrop Node 3 and train branches horizontally in opposing directions
- This is the ONLY Topping we’ll do this run . . .
- Grow three more nodes, top to node Four.
- Preserve 2 healthy lower branches per plant as Clone Candidates
- Strip all Growth nodes below apical growth nodes (preserving 2 lowers)
- Grow One more node, each plant, then Top - and supercrop terminal nodes opposite one another and at a 90° angle to the direction of the first super cropping/
- When training complete, FLIP to 13/11
- 70 Days to Harvest for balance of IRIE Genetics
- 65 Days to Harvest for Purple Heart
- FLIP to 13/11 (remove dark period interruption)
- Flower as normal - MAX EC 1.8 (1.5 Nutrients + 0.3 Filtered Water)

Environment Plan
Seedlings ( 10 Hours (approx) (Initiates Flower) (11/13)
When growing many plants, this technique allows maturation without extensive vegetative growth. Before flip, I top all plants to preserve their third node, and flip - which is just removing the intraday Light hour.
This approach has allowed me to grow long flowering stretchers in a constrained space, and from cuts - seems to provide a great structure resulting in VERY LOW trim requirement - at least for these cultivars. (Took me less than 10 min/plant for dry trim)
Veg still has a 6 hour Scotoperiod, but lights are only on for a total of 12 hours, hence 12/6 (instead of 12/12). This reduces the overall light period to 12 Hours or less per day, Veg and Flower.
We get ‘Max Light’ during stretch and flowering, which is when we need it. It enables the plant to mature without becoming a defoliation monster. Cheers! ~r

1100 - Ran total of 320 sec. 320/2.16: ~ 148 ml

Or 368/plant/day.

__
Fri Mar 8, 2024
IRIE1Q24 31:V:4:3
I’m pretty much sure we’re delivering significantly less Fertigation than we think. Ran pump for a FULL 9 Minutes at noon. There has been no runoff, and plants are not terribly happy. I think we’re severely under watering.
Solution - Buy pump with advertised 6’ HEAD,, 35 Watt SICCE Syncra 2.0.
- [x] Order SICCE Syncra 2.0 from Amazon
- [x] Order 3/4” NPT Male to 3/8” Barb
Fertigation Observations
We need to be able to irrigate in minutes per event, NOT 10’s of minutes. The Little GIANT transfer pump LACKS sufficient HEAD to consistently deliver across the irrigation rings. The new pump should be able to provide sufficient pressure to do . . .
Pressure (psi) = .433 * Height (ft)
Alternatively
2.31 ft/psi
The Syncra 2.0 has a 6.5’ Head, delivering ~ 2.8 psi, 10% of the max flow at the manifold, meaning the pressure restrictor, won’t.
Ex.
- If we Deliver @4ft, we have (2.8 - 4(.4333)) or 2.8 - 1.7 or 1.1psi
IFF We’re not getting decent flow, will have to RAISE TANK 2.3 Ft to achieve 2.0 psi or more …

Removed Pressure Restrictor from XeriBird8 Manifold and cleaned well.
Replaced Little Giant pump with SICCE Syncra 2.0 (6.5’ head). The little giant was probably fine . . .
__
Sun Mar 10, 2024
IRIE1Q24 33:V:4:5

KEY Problems were the back flow protector on the Little Giant that reduced flow 1PSI, and flow restrictor on Xeribird8 for 10x the pressure of our little system. We’re lucky to have a couple of PSI at the emitters. That said - we produced ~1.5 gallons of runoff yesterday. To maintain runoff (but less than 1 GAL!), I’ve HALVED delivery times. Goal is to reduce runoff to ~10% of estimated delivery …
Current Fertigation Run: 5 min Duration, 4 times in 11 hours.

We’ll FLIP on Week Change - give a couple of days for root development, some more height.
We need to
- [ ] Would like to grow to middle bar of tent BEFORE topping.
- [ ] VERIFY ROOT POPULATION AT BOTTOM OF CONTAINERS BEFORE FLIP. (If we’re well populated, we’ll rock - delay FLIP UNTIL All containers need to demonstrate significant root development around periphery of the bottom of each airpot.

- REDUCED Irrigation Time per event from 12:20 to 10:00 [min:sec] 4x. We’ve ACHIEVED our goal of achieving AT LEAST 20% Runoff. Now we get to dial it BACK.
Note: Runoff yesterday after a liter each of RLA CalMag Fuel @ EC: 2.2 mS, yielded Runoff at 0.5 mS! Suggesting my COCO was CalMag Deficient. I did a piss-poor job of the original buffering . . .
I’m PLEASED that a run with CalMag at current EC is effective. As I’m running Rooted Leaf Nutrients on the Hydro schedule, I have to separately water in Supplemental CalMag between normal fertigations. THIS is probably the reason for the massive runoff in the last 24hrs. Will monitor until we consistently have ~ 700 ml/ runoff, daily.

R&R Irrigation
- [x] Replaced 1/4” ID Feed line with 3/8” ID Silicone tubing
- [x] Replaced 1/4” ID Barbs on PUMP and MANIFOLD w/ 3/8”
- [x] Remove 200 Mesh Manifold Filter
- [x] Remove xGPH Flow Restrictors from MANIFOLD Internal Ports
Objective: Reduce pressure required for flow.
While we now have flow through - it is a pressure, and therefore height sensitive irrigation system. We have no back-flow protection

- 0900: Reservoir Significantly Lower - Reduced Fertigation Duration per event to 5 min
- I think the goal will be 1L of runoff per day. We have flow through the irrigation - though largely uncontrolled in that
- The 200 Mesh Filter in the MANIFOLD clogs in less than a day (Bio Film?). I have it removed, and all of the flow restrictors inside. The line will siphon itself back, to the res after irrigation.
- Ideally need
- In-Line Sediment Trap (Unless the problem is bio-film)
- Back-flow prevention.
- I had initially installed a back flow device on the Little Giant pump - but that basically reduced it’s head in half, rendering it unusable
- Two items need management
- 1. Assuring sufficient runoff to assure all plants sufficiently irrigated
- 2. Spot Check Pot Heft and relative Irrigation Amount during fertigation

Rooted Leaf Application : Irrigation Notes
- Following the RLA Comparison Chart, We see the KEY difference between HYDRO & Light/Medium/Heavy is the amount of Phosphorous provided. The Full Lines provide 40% More Phosphorous in Bloom.
- Until the END OF BOLT (Next Full Week) - How about 220 ml/Plant/Day of Peak Bloom at Current EC? As Supplement? After FIRST Watering
- [ ] Prepare 2 Liters of Peak Bloom @ EC: 2.6 w/ Dr Bronners & SLF-100
- [ ] Apply 220 ml/plant after Lights On
Observation:
- Irrigation
- 6 Events/Plant over 11 hours, ~100 ml/event
- Bloom Week 1 - Key Differences
- Full Chart yields ~ 40% MORE P205 than does HYDRO PreBloom/Bloom
- Hack (Veg 4/Bloom 1-3): Daily add Peak Bloom at Current EC after Lights On to each plant (220 ml/day - 5% of pot volume).
Purple Heart is read. I'm HAPPY THEY'RE HARVESTED!!
The stretch in flower, published at 2x, was OVER 4x on two of 5 plants, and 3 - 4x on the balance. Had I known, I would have STARTED 11/13 light cycle.
One plant grew to and past the Highest level I can place it - Two grew right to the light surface.
The two tallest have bud damage where they were directly laying against the light - but other than that - the flowers look Awesome!
If I grow her again - I'll start her in a flowering photoperiod.

No runoff. Irrigation Pump NOT Delivering. Disassembled. Verified running and clear. The main pump seems to have some vibration at its bearing. On first reassembly it wouldn’t start. On second, carefully made sure pump drive stem free in bearing plate and would run. Reassembled and set PORT to 2-clicks less than full. Verified operation.
Returned pump to res and ran for 20 minutes. Back on Timer @ 2100
