A diary of barney’s pineapple express grown organically outdoor using biotabs nutes andhomemade KNF inputs (FAA, LAB, OHN).
Last year I wasn’t lucky . My plants were overwatered due to bad combination of too much rain and mulching. I learned the lesson and hopefully this year we’ll end with better results.
It is a very tasty strain so I am looking forward to grow it again.
Check out my other diaries of L.A Vanilla Cake of Silent seeds and Brooklyn Mango bred by Dr. Underground.
The weather got rainy and cold so I had to bring her inside where there wasn’t enough light. All of the ladies started to stretch. To stop it yesterday I moved them under a LED light . I will keep them there until they get stronger, meanwhile I’ll try to take advantage of the Sun as well putting them to the sunny spots of my place.
They are in a small pot of Plagron Lightmix prepared following Biotabs instructions.
Update 04.27:
She is going well.
Need to water twice a week. Second watering with 2ml LAB.
Last week under the lamp.
I have prepared the soil in a container of (300 litres more or less )she is going to share with two other ladies.
I have used some KNF inputs to have a propre kick off:
OHN - Oriental Herbal Nutrients
FPJ Nettle - Fermented Plant Juice
FAA - Fish Amino Acids
LAB - Lactic Acid Bacteria serum
And also added some diatomaceous earth against insects and as a silicium source.
Finally they have been transplanted to their final place : a 120 x 80 flower bed built on a pallet. A new adventure begins…
I put 5 g of mycotrex in their potting holes.
Put the tabs around them (2 biotabs , 3 guerrilla tabs for each) and watered with orgatrex/bactrex mix and finally applied some Oriental Herbal Nutrient solution on the plants.
They look great. Pineapple Express developped quicker in the last few days (couple of days ago she was the smallest, now she’s the strongest one).
Starting this journey indoor with a lamp was a good decision, but from now on the Mighty Sun will take care of them.
I wish them a glorious life in the Garden of the Rising Sun.
Update - 10.05.
Beautiful. She has taken the challenge of adapting to the outer world without problem. The mild weather made it easier for sure.
Another week with clouds and a temperature between 12-21 degrees.
So it is perfect to strenghten the plants and prepare them for a tougher Juin.
If I need to water I’ll use plain water maybe a foliar FAA mix.
Thinking on starting with supercropping…
Update :
13.05 Foliar FAA in the morning
Wow. For now she seems the queen of my little garden.
She has some nice wide indica leaves.
Update 21.05
FIM
Update 22.05
Ladies are growing like crazy.
Finally I have decided to do SCROG and I have built a frame for the net (160x140)
A week of massive growth: it started from 45 cm and went until 65. I am amazed by hownperfect she is. Her sisters too but she is the most developed.
It seems that the OHN is really protecting them: no insect bite on the leaves.
She looks unstoppable.
Curious about how the FIMing is going, but I think 4 new mainlines are getting formed.
I did the intense orgatrex treatment (20 ml of orgatrex + 1 g of Bactrex in 0.5 litres of water).
I am not gonna be around this week, but there is not much to do. A big rain in the beginning of the week and the tabs in the ground give them everything they need.
All the ladies are growing beautifully, they are filling up the net very quickly.
Pineapple Express’ FIM is giving 4 new branches.
I am amazed how quick she is growing. I have to train her every day.
After a week of being away it’s hard to train them. Main lines 10-15 centimeters above the net and some stems are too hard to be bent.
I don’t know how I will manage to keep their growth under control.
Nothing special in terms of nutrition:
OHN to protect them and water with FAA to keep the soil alive.
What to say about this lady? She is showing an extreme vigor, she takes a big part of the screen and even bringing a lot of new branches to the canopy and beyond she has reached a height of around 1 meter.
Extreme heat during the week reachin 36 degrees.
Growing like crazy…
Some beings tasted a few leaves so I applied OHN again and added a bit of water soluble calcium. For the rest she is going very well.
Very hot days. I have to water every other day.
As flowering is going to start in a month or so, I added some FFJ made of unripe pear in order tomprepare them for the transition.
A very (even too) sunny week. They drink a lot. As once during this week they were dry I watered witha bactrex orgatrex FAA mix, and also I added two guerrilla tabs to each girl.
Meanwhile I might have spotted some preflowers…a bit too early.
I’ve been away for more than a week and she got quite bad. She has lost a lot of leaves and one of her branches is destroyed. Than I saw the bottom of the branch was brown and the main branch as well. Should I cut it? With this I would lose the half of the plant.
I need help guys. What should I do to save her?
Update:
It might be an infection of Fusarium as some helpful fellow growers pointed it out
BUT
After cutting off the affected branch I couldn’t see the brown layers said to be a characteristic of this fungal pathogen
plus it was hollow and I didn’t have to search for long until I found a few caterpillars.
If these little basterds had done this damage I would be happy and treat them with some BT.
Can this mistery have a happy end?
Update:
No it can’t. It is fusarium. Today the brown stain on the stem reached a crosspoint and the other branches affected wilted.
So today I have to cut this beauty down.
R.I.P
I cut her and opened up some of the stems, the main stem as welI. I have seen lot of caterpillar damage (hollow stems) and some branches had some grey parts inside.
I also digged her out. l. Huge rootball and the roots didn’t look rotten.
I am still not convinced it is fusarium.
I appreciate any comments on it.
Update:
A lesson I learned in this round:
-use trichoderma in the beginning so fungal pathogens have less chance to mess your garden up
-use neem (adding it to your compost or spraying diluted on the plants REGULARLY)
-desinfect your scissors before you touch your plants with them
-try to catch butterflies (moths) at spring when they show up and start to use BT even before once every 2 weeks
-use of horsetail extract as fungicide.
Anything you would suggest as Pest Prevention?
