WillyWonka Hello and welcome to my first ever cannabis grow! Complete noob here so take it easy on me. My small setup: 80cm x 80cm x 180cm grow tent 600w LED Exhaust fan with carbon filter Intake fan for cool air The grow: So originally I only planned to grow the top two Pineapple Express autos (top picture) but I figured I should optimise grow space and add another two plants. So although they’re a week behind, the bottom row is sweet Tooth auto and critical Kush Auto. The middle plant in the tiny pot is what I’m what i believe to be an unknown sex Super silver haze (from 1oz of bud i bought a while ago). It’s simply there for my amusement for now. Using Organic soil with perlite added , in 10L fabric pots. Any constructive advice is always welcome of course, I’m really excited to start this journey and learn a lot on the way! UPDATE 18th Nov: the critical Kush Auto and sweet Tooth auto have both justness sprouted out of the soil. They’re just over a week behind the pineapple, it I’m optimistic they’ll catch up. I’ll start uploading more pictures when there’s more to show.

I’ve been watering with rain water collected from my water butt in the garden. What’s people’s thoughts on rainwater as opposed to tap water? Mother nature’s water seems like a good idea to me?

You could use either or , at the end of the day it matters what the PH is like you always want to correct it to the right PH for medium . I can see your medium is soil based on that information your PH should be anywhere from 6.5 - 6.8 in order to prevent any nutrient lock outs . If your unsure what your PH is your local hydroponics shop or amazon will have them pretty cheap as well you can get the general hydroponics test kids for like 8-12$ and this kit will help you keep your PH range in check as well as you could go a little fancier and get a PH pen these usually will have a digital read out and they are very accurate . They range in price anywhere from 20-100$ depending on the brand . In order to correct your PH you will need products such as PH up and PH down they are very cost effective as you only use drops at a time to adjust your PH because of their strength . Other then that both waters are pretty much the same , you might get different minerals in the rain water then you would the tap water but its pretty much the same except i might suggest leaving the tap water out with no nutrient solution in it for 2 days so the chlorine can evaporate . Your in good shape and well on your way to having some kick ass young ladies ! I hope this information helps you ! -Happy Growing!

WillyWonka So everything has been going’s pretty slowly. I’ve been concerned with a lack of growth, especially when looking at other diaries. However, I think I know why - overwatering! A TYPICAL rookie mistake, but I haven’t watered them in 3 days now and they’re much happier for it. When I do water them though the ph is sitting at a solid 6.5 (is that about right?) They were given a tiny amount of micro and grow feed a few days ago. I’m concerned I’ve impacted the overall grow, so any advice for a first timer would be great. Thanks for reading!

WillyWonka Upped the nutrients slightly on all girls, hoping they appreciate it. Everything is still really slow, water pH is consistent, temperature and humidity is consistent too. None of the girls seem uncomfortable in any way, I just wish they'd show a bit more growth. Definitely most excited for the bigger of the two pineapples right now, but there's still plenty of time for things to change. I can't believe it's only day 21 of the bigger two, having none of my own supply until these grow is taking its toll, but oh well. Still all being watered one every few days, only one time for far has the smaller of the pineapples dropped ever so slightly, but perked up an hour or so after having her first drink in 72 hours or so.

WillyWonka So I’ve ever so slightly upped all of their nutrients, but they’re still only having water twice a week maybe. Not much to say, I’m hoping the pineapples will shoot up soon, they’re all so small still 😔 Edit - I just looked through each week of the pictures with all four of them together, and this week especially looks really impressive. Especially when you remember the bottom two are a week behind the two at the top! Any and all advice is welcome friends.

Hi fellow growers! I’m concerned growth is still exceptionally slow. All variables are remaining consistent, there aren’t big drops in temperature, ph is correct etc. I’m only watering every 4 days or so, should I be doing anything different?

think of the plant as a rocket for space, it needs to thrust really hard, yet looks "slow" on the ground, as it picks up speed it's still thrusting really hard, then for the even "quicker" flower stretch that's like when the rocket is already in space no gravity holding it down. My point is, this is how plants grow, slow at first then really quickly, especially autos... when you're watching a plant grow there's going to be a fair amount of boredom lol, but if you compare your week 2 pictures, this looks right on track, keep doing what you're doing ! hope this helps 🚀

WillyWonka So it’s officially the first day of week five! I was hoping the Pineapple Express would shoot up and enter flower, but I think that the stressful over watering on the first week has set them back a bit. Oh well! All plants leaves look a healthy colour, main stems look and feel stronger this week. Slowly losing their green baby stems. They had no issues with a slight rise in nutrients. FROM 1.0/L to 1.2/L with both micro and grow nutes. There’s definitely a slight smell in the tent now, although a long way off stinking of green. Flower soon please, Pineapple! EDIT: It’s pretty cold in my part of the northern hemisphere right now, and the position of my tent in my house means that it gets the full force of any drop in temperature. Just now the tent was 15.6oC, which isn’t acceptable. Because of this, I’ve switched to a 24hr lighting schedule. The heater in the tent just can’t do its job alone, the LED keeps the tent at optimal temperatures. Any tips based on this please?

WillyWonka Help needed please! So this week has been a bad one. They entered pre flower a couple days after last week’s entry, but it went downhill from there. Both pineapple plants (the top two in the group photo) have had dried up discoloured leaves. I need help identifying the problem. All 4 plants look unwell IMO. This is my first cannabis grow, but am I seeing the effects of over feeding nutrients? Never fed calmag, but some arrived yesterday - is it calmag deficiency? Yesterday I flushed all plants. They are in 10L fabric pots, how much ph6.5 water should I be using?tbh right now they look overwatered. WISHING I started with photoperiods... Please help me and please be as detailed as possible 😢

WillyWonka So I’ve changed a few things up after last weeks stress... Plants are now slightly raised, which has meant they’re drying faster. I usually water every 4 days, a little over 1L for 10L fabric pots. However, I’ve tried halving that, and watering every 2 days to see if the girls prefer that. There’s still a few leaf issues. Should I be increasing the feed slightly? Am I correct in using Advanced Nutrients micro, grow and bloom the way I currently am? Or should I increase bloom a little? The largest Pineapple Express has about 9 or 10 bud sites which is excting, I keep tucking the big leaves in to expose the buds to as much light as possible. Again, any advice is more than welcome. Big, big thanks to everyone who’s helped this newbie grower already 😁😁😺 Thanks for stopping by.

WillyWonka Another happy week I believe. Tallest plant is 38cm, smallest is 23cm. The critical kush has overtaken the pineapple in height, but the pineapple is still winning on bud production. The smaller of the pineapples’ isn’t having a great time, but I’m not very worried. Slight drop in external temperatures this week, but it’s only lowered the tent by a couple of degrees, nothing to worry about. I’m sticking to a strict feed water water schedule as recommended by growers, and they’re all receiving a little over 1L every 4 days or so - letting the soil dry out and become light to pick up. Although the Sweet Tooth is the obvious baby of the group, it’s already the stinkiest, starts off smelling like feet, now becoming more like the lovely cannabis smell we all adore. The yellowing of the leaves of the back left plant doesn’t actually look like that IRL, the camera has made it look worse. I’d still like a little advice on my feeding nutrients if possible.a part from that, im really enjoying this experience. Thanks a million to anyone who’s commented so far, and thank you to fellow growers who haven’t commented but are posting their own diaries - I see 90% of them and I’m excited for you all. Happy new year fellow growers, and happy growing!

WillyWonka Another week, another update! I’ve still been following the ‘feed water water’ schedule, but my god were the Pineapple Express girls not happy being without CalMag for the two ‘water’ feeds, so I think I’m going to have to add it every single time they drink. Both Pineapple plants have obvious signs of calcium deficiency but they’re soldiering on nonetheless. Both the Critical and the Sweet Tooth have been getting the extra CalMag as well, they’re happy either way. Despite the Sweet Tooth only growing to be one bud, with no side branches budding at all, it seems to be putting all of its energy into making it the best bud possible. Covered in trichomes that stick to your fingers if you squeeze the bud ever so slightly. Smells better than any cannabis I’ve ever bought, even in The Netherlands. Couldn’t find the measuring tape today, but the critical kush has comfortably overtaken the biggest of the two pineapples, despite being a week younger. Thanks for stopping by!

A very pleasant hybrid. Although it wasn’t quite ready for tasting pre dry, I tried a little (I mean I had to, it was the first cannabis I’ve ever grown). Immediately euphoric, couldn’t hold conversations with friends particularly well because I was incredibly high. Amazing quality weed for my first harvest.

WillyWonka So this little stunted dwarf refused to grow any more with just one bud for the whole plant. A little disappointed it didn’t grow into a proper plant like the other strain have in the tent. However, what it clearly lacked in quantity it made up for in quality. The Sweet Tooth was the first to flower, first to dense up, covered with trichomes. It might not have been completely ready for harvest, but I’ve just germinated 3 blackberry auto seeds that I’ll be adding to the tent. I want the space and I was desperate to try my own cannabis. Spent a few days drying and it’s now curing in a jar for a few weeks. So how did the grow go and what did I learn? - don’t over water, at all, but especially in the first few weeks. - always ensure there’s airflow under the pots, even a small amounts makes a huge difference. - a little less nutrients is better than a little more. But how did the Sweet Tooth compare to the Pineapple Express and Critical Kush? Well, despite the weird stunted nature of this particular genetic, which may have been my fault I don’t know, it’s very hardy. Sweet Tooth can handle more nutrients than Pineapple Express that’s for sure. During flower this strain smells like a sickly sweet feet smell. Doesn’t sound that pleasant, but when you grew it yourself it’s one of the best smells you can imagine. I’ll be more detailed in my harvest of the Pineapple and Critical, which will hopefully be a few weeks away. That will be a much more successful harvest that’s for sure. I would definitely grow this strain again, but due to my obsession with trying as many different strains as I can, with my limited grow space this won’t happen again for a while. Can’t be bothered to post a dry weight right because it’s such a small amount. I’ll weigh it after it spends a bit more time curing.

WillyWonka So the Pineapple Express and Critical Kush have both entered their sticky trichome phase, with the pineapple finally getting its pineapple smell. Incredibly citrusy whenever you squeeze the buds. Delicious. The smaller of the two pineapples has suffered some nutrient burn. The one plant that’s always giving me issues. It’s flower production rate has suffered as a result, but it’s still doing well. Lesson for the week to self - stop feeding too much nutrients. just because they are happy with their feed one week, it doesn’t mean they might like a little more the next week. WillyWonka The end is near, maybe? Another successful week, the smell in the tent is really quite strong now. Pineapple smells of...pineapple. Yummy! The critical kush just smells very dank right now, the only word I can use to describe it, similar to the sweet tooth actually. Pineapple showing signs of lack of nutes, which happens after every single quick flush. Pineapple Express Auto from Barney’s a Farm, in my opinion, would be better suited to ‘feed water feed water’ as opposed to ‘ feed water water feed’. It doesn’t need much nutrients at all, but quickly misses it. Although I’d recommend growing it just for the smell. Hard to know when I should harvest. I’ve added two blackberry autos to the tent, which has raised the RH to about 50%, oops! I’ll be starting the blackberry diary very soon, so please check it out. From what I’ve researched on this site, FastBuds blackberry likes minimal nutes, so I’ll be much more careful this time. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi fellow growers! From the pictures of this week, when do you think the pineapple and Critical should be ready for harvest? I’ve been checking the trichomes with a scope, I’m just finding it tricky to tell. They seem to be getting more dense daily right now so I’m being patient

Hi @WillyWonka! Honestly no one can tell better than you (with the help of a magnifier/microscope) and your pictures are a too dark and far-off to analyse the trichomes. Pistils can be a clue, if you noticed that new pistils have stopped appearing and old pistils have almost all turned red and curly, but the best way to ensure it's the right time is to look at the trichomes with a magnifier/microscope. Clear/Transparent/Skinny trichomes mean it's too soon, Milky/Cloudy/Fat trichomes mean the harvest window is open, Amber trichomes mean the harvest window is ending, and THC is degrading. Looking at your last pictures, I think you're very close, maybe 7-14 days, but you rather double-check everyday (even twice a day) with a 2$ hand-held microscope to ensure your buds are fully ready. Hope this will help, keep us up-to-date and happy growing! 👊

WillyWonka A quick update this week, not much to say. Buds are getting more dense. Due to personal life commitments I think I’ll have to harvest next week, so the flush has started. I’m considering chopping the top halves down first, staggering the harvest. Top buds on both pineapple and Critical are much more developed than the bottom half, so I feel owe it to the plants to so it this way. The harvest won’t be great on the scales, but I plan to enjoy every puff off my home grown cannabis. After this harvest I need a bigger carbon filter. My first one is coming to the end of its lifespan, as made clear from the increasingly strong smell from the tent room. Delicious! Thanks for stopping by, please feel free to comment, I get excited at every notification on this site. 😺

WillyWonka A little disappointed with the yield, but that’ll only improve with time. Environment wasn’t great, but still produced some strong cannabis. For a first ever grow I can’t complain. 1.1oz pulled from two plants, one being a very weird stunted dwarf. However, it produced generally better quality cannabis. Tips for first time growers and future self... - Environment is key to success. Don’t think you can get away with low humidity early on etc. - don’t overwater. Less is better, full wet dry cycle needed - raise pots off ground for airflow to roots and faster drying cycle. - find a ‘water water feed’ (or different) suitable for each individual strain. - really look at plants daily, examine them. I’ve started a Blackberry auto journal, and I have just sprouted 3 triple cheese photoperiods. Come see me improve if you like. Thanks to everyone for helping out. Buds are on the airy side but it’s smell is improving weekly.

WillyWonka Easiest strain of the 3 by far. Tolerated fluctuations in feeding, real potential. Again, a small yield, but it was my first ever grow, and this stuff is smeeeeeeeely. Didn’t think I was that into Kush, but Barney’s Farm have convinced me with Critical Kush Auto, I’d definitely grow this strain again.

Best of luck on your venture into cannabis cultivation. It becomes an addiction in itself. Don’t be afraid to ask questions as there are a lot of seasoned growers on this site. I am currently growing 2 Royal 👑 Gorilla’s 🦍, and 1 Gorilla 🦍 Bomb 💣, and 2 Velvet Bud in my garden at the moment that are 35 days into Veg. I just hacked them up starting to do a modified manifold which will extend my Veg by a week or two. I post bi weekly videos to my YouTube Channel. Check it out if you get a chance: www.youtube.com/channel/UCJiLvEn7XRcH_o3sHd8qbyQ “Keep It Safe, Keep It Green, & Smoke 💨 It Up!!!”

@WillyWonka,there is not too much to comment about as of yet without having much of a conversation with you. Generally my hope is that people respond with a question or issue that they may be having. I promote my own stuff because I was a 1st time grower myself at one time, but I learned through working with experienced cultivators and now film my stuff so both new and experienced growers can get ideas of what works and does not work....

@MagicMikesMeds, and anyone who can help... Hello Kind growers.. I have a slightly urgent query. I am on 15th day after germination. And since the past 2 days , I see the leaves getting yellowish and some wilting. Till 10 days my two plants (OG kush and Purple Haze) were growing slow but fine. We are using 10,000 lumen lights using cool white LED bulbs. Placed the bulbs at 30cm height from the plants. Earlier I was overwatering, 500 ml a day ( ph around 6..5-7) for both plants, twice a day. Now its 100 ml a day. Soil is Coco peat mixed with perlite( in 50:50 ratio) and compost(100 gms) in 12 litre pots. I can send you pictures if you wish. I just made the profile here to ask as I am afraid the plants might die in a day or two if something is not done.
MagicMikesMeds
MagicMikesMeds commented7y ago
@kabir065, what did you germinate into? Were using rock wool or Rapid Rooter plugs? I think that you are probably overwatering if they are 15 days from germination and you are feeding every day. Rock wool and rapid Rooter plugs only need to be watered every couple of days when they are that small.
MagicMikesMeds
MagicMikesMeds commented7y ago
@kabir065, I have had similar issues when starting out new seed. Most of the time it came down to the fact that I was watering a little too heavily
BeefWellingtons
BeefWellingtons commented7y ago
So what's happening here is that the plants roots are growing wild in the soil and the plant on top is taking it's time. This is why we keep in smaller containers until a root system grows out. Not really much you can do to change that now however. I think they will do fine, just keep an eye on the overwatering, and keep your ph at the 6.5-6.8 level like @The_Projexx suggested. Be patient. It will be alright. ;)

WillyWonka commented7y ago
@BeefWellingtons, yep I thought about the root system thing, just forgot to mention it on the post. It’ll be putting all of its energy in its roots right now, I just hope there’s still enough time to make some lovely plants! My hope is in a few weeks time they’ll shoot up!
