I first went to Amsterdam in 1997 . This was the first time I ever smoked White Widow. I think just like hearing Appetite for Destruction for the first time that this was a defining moment in my life. I had just experienced something that would forever set the bar.
White Widow is ranked 19th best weed ever in High Times which is pretty damn good considering how many thousands of strains there are now.
Due to restrictions brought in by the government in Holland there is now a THC limit on weed sold in coffeeshops. White Widow is no longer at its cannabis cup winning levels of 25% like it was in the 90’s and early 2000’s. I recently bought White Widow in Leiden and it was labeled as being 18% THC. It still tasted beautiful but just not the same.
This is what prompted me to try growing some White Widow myself. Up to now I have only ever grown Autoflowers because of the ease and convenience .I think my first venture into photoperiods was always going to be White Widow though, It was inevitable 🕷️🕸️🕷️🕸️
Like most people I got sucked into the whole influx of all these new wonderfully named high THC strains like ‘Gorilla Girl Scout Mint Choc Gelato Dosi Punch Pie OG Cookies’. I really do think breeders have lost the run of themselves with all the crossings of strains. I recently smoked a strain which when I checked it’s genetics I found was a cross of around 14 stains and each of these 14 strains were a cross of around another 14 strains all of which contained Chemdog in their genetics which I think means I was just smoking Chemdog in the end and I’m not a fan of any weed I’ve smoked that even has a tiny little bit of Chemdog in it’s genetics. It’s a bit like cinnamon, you either love it or hate it. This is just a preference thing obviously and my preference is simple genetics and especially Amsterdam weed from the 90’s.
🕷️Day 1: I put the seeds in a glass of water for 24hrs before transferring into soil. All four seeds popped up after three days. 🕸️
🕷️Day 5: Watered to run off.🕸️
The bottle tops filled with water seen in the photos are for creating humidity close to the seedlings 🌱. I don’t know if this actually works or helps but the water in the bottle tops need to be refilled with water every day so it makes sense that it must be creating some humidity around the seedlings 🌱 when evaporating. I have a 100watt LED around 60cm’s away from the seedlings 🌱. The light measurement is around 25,000 Lux 💡
🕷️Day 7: Repotted seedlings 🌱 to 10ltr pots and moved from small grow box to my grow tent.🕸️
🕷️Day 12: Watered with Nutrients to run off.
Good solid week of growth. All three plants are on the fourth node. The plan is to top at the fourth node over the next few days. Plants are getting around 50,000Lux of light 💡 🕸️
🕷️Day 16: Topped all plants at the fourth node. Watered with nutrients to runoff 🕸️
🕷️Day 17: Cut off the lowest branches and leaves 🍃 from each plant 🕸️
🕷️Day 18: Cut off first leaves 🍃 and nodes from the lowest branches 🕸️
🕷️Day 19: Started pinning down and spreading out the branches with camping pegs.
🕷️Day 20: Cut off lowest fan leaves 🕸️
🕷️Day 21: Cut off next set of fan leaves 🕸️
Continued to bend branches and remove lower leaves and new branches from the 2nd node. Top of plants are getting around 60,000lux of light 💡
🕷️Day 22: Switched to 12/12 with lights 🕸️
🕷️Day 24: Watered with Nutrients 🕸️
🕷️Day 29: Watered with just PH’d water. Done a last bit of defoliation 🕸️
🕷️Day 32: Watered with flowering nutrients
🕷️Day 35: Watered with nutrients. Some nice signs of preflower 🕸️
The tallest part of the tallest plant is getting 68,000lux of light 💡 This is a little too much light so I will raise the light a little bit and put something under the pots with the shorter plants to bring them up to level with the tallest plant. 🕷️🕸️
There has been a good stretch in the plants heights this week. The highest buds were getting 74,000lux of light 💡 which is too much so I raised the lights. I also raised the height of the pots for the smaller plants to make the canopy more even. A Lux meter is a fantastic tool for growers. My light was centred in my tent but when I done an all round lux check the buds closer to the front of the tent were getting 35,000lux and the buds to the back of the tent were getting 55,000lux. By only moving the light forward 2 to 3cm’s the buds in both sides are now getting 50,000lux of light 💡
🕷️Day 38: Raised height of lights and raised smaller plants 🕸️
🕷️Day 39: Watered all plants and had to do some unplanned defoliation. The plants are a bit crowded so the lower leaves aren’t getting enough light or air movement. A good few leaves started falling off and lots more fell off at a slight touch just like when plants are ready to harvest. I thinned out the lower part of all plants 🕸️
🕷️Day 40: Raised lights again 🕸️
🕷️Day 42: Watered with Nutrients 🕸️
🕷️Day 45: Watered with half dose of nutrients. Done a huge amount of unplanned defoliating again. I know I shouldn’t be defoliating at this stage but it was nessessary as it was getting very crowded 🕸️
🕷️Day 48: Watered with full dose of nutrients and put smaller plants up on paint tins to make them all the same height 🕸️
I moved the plants to a bigger custom grow space(converted shower) at the start of this week. They were in a 70x70x160 tent. The new space is 96x85x190. Much more room to breed 🕸️
🕷️Day 65: Watered with Nutrients 🕸️
🕷️Day 67: Watered with Nutrients 🕸️
🕷️Day 70: Watered with Nutrients 🕸️
